  • This is a bit different from our usual style of videos. I prefer to focus on travel but I needed to replace the front drivers side CV joint on our 80 series Landcruiser so I thought I'd film and share it. This is an in depth look at how to remove and replace a CV (constant velocity joint) in a solid axle 4x4. It was a learning experience for me and I hope it'll help other people having a go at repairing and maintaining their 4x4's too.

It sucks to break a CV but it's gonna happen to most of us sooner or later. I'm glad the video was a help.

Cheers for the video much appreciated. Great work and a massive help! The FASK2 pack I got has the outer seal as well but I didn't see it in your video? Did I miss something?

Hey, that's a good observation. The outer seal sits in the back of the rotor/hub assembly behind the inner wheel bearing. At 27:46 I mentioned that I wasn't touching the wheel bearing because it had been replaced about a year ago. That's the reason I didn't use or make mention of the out seal. I would only replace it, if changing the wheel bearing or if the seal looked damaged. Hope your CV replacement went well.

I love the way you separated the CV from the Axle..so easy..👏🏻👏🏻
I’ve seen others weld up a a flat base around a large steel pipe..for something they’re hardly ever going to use again it’s too much time invested..

Thanks. It was a case of Hmmm, what do I have available and what would I do in the bush with limited tools.
