    Update....Luxe hiking gear is ripping a lot of people off as of lately. Buyer beware. I do not recommend buying anything from this company. I have made an update video about the situation. Here is the link to the update video if you are interestedczcams.com/video/WfGQBoN_r-4/video.html&t

    I totally agree. This whole setup is really nice. I’ve used it twice. With the inner tent, and a www titanium wood stove.
    Winter, white mountains in NH. 4 nights one time, 5 nights the next. With the stove burning and damper open, the interior was 70f…and closing the damper, the stove would stay hot for a while. Maybe a couple hours. It’s cool because a wood stove/fire gets you warm twice. Once while foraging and cutting, and again, burning it. And like he said, it’s a perfect size for one man, gear, and stove.

      @@ItsGoodintheWoods yeah, so I’ve heard. That’s too bad. The product has been great. I got mine January 2020. Usually if the product sucks, so does the company. Strange to have such reliable and good products, with terrible customer service.

    Great honest review- much respect!Anyone can unbox a tent, set it up in their yard and tell you how great it is, but until a product has been put thru repeated-use in a variety of conditions, there's no way to know how it will hold up long-term.

    That’s like the tent I always used during deer hunting season. Mine was a canvas pyramid tent with a wood stove that weighted a ton but this was set up next to where we parked our trucks. No matter what the weather, it stood the test of time from Massachusetts to northern Maine. After a day of hunting it was fantastic to light the fire in the wood stove.. pour a glass of bourbon or two, and make an incredible dinner which many times would be heart and liver with onions and bacon from our harvest. Somehow I think you can relate.
    Thanks Justin for the review, I appreciate good equipment, good people and honest reviews! Big cheers 🥂... Pete.

      Those old canvas tents are awesome! I have a Polish Lavvu that I like to use from time to time. I also have my Great Grandfathers 1945 WW2 US PUP tent! I still use that one too! That is always a place of solid reflection.
      I bet those were some fun hunting trips! Good times! There is nothing quite like that first ceremonial meal with bacon and onions!!!! Rewarding on many levels! A happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Pete. Cheers my friend

    *Good Review & Awesome Tent… ⛺️ What’s appealing the most, about this brand & model, are the variety of seemingly endless optional configurations… with it’s Summer & Winter Hot Tent capabilities..! It’s a win win all round..! As we say here in the UK. It’s the ‘Dog’s Bollocks’..!* 😆

      This is one fantastic tent. It is by far my favorite lightweight, solo hot tent I have ever used. Extremely versatile. I love it in the winter and it is a favorite of mine for canoe camping. Thank you for watching and commenting! Happy New Year to you

  • @lawrencemartin1113
    @lawrencemartin1113 Před 3 lety +5

    So good, I bought one here in the UK! I love it and with my Winnerwell Fast Fold titanium stove it is an epic combo. (Mine is in the brown colour). It is a perfect solo Hot Tent for all year round use. As a canoe tripping tent, it is almost unbeatable as it offers all those easy configurations shown in your video and so is ideal as a lunch time quick set up tarp like shelter (much faster to set up than a tarp and works without the need for ridge lines or extra trees to tie off to etc.) or the more fixed base overnight camp tent, with or without the inner. I even have a lightweight cot bed for truck camping which can easily fit inside and works so well with the stove in the cold, allowing me to sleep a few critical inches off the ground in real comfort and piping hot all night.....as long as I have enough prepped wood and can add a few logs during the night! I also have a small packable chair which just fits and allows me to sit comfortably by the stove. Nothing like the sound of rain or snow on the outside while cooking and snugging down in the warmth inside. If you want to cut down on weight when Bushcrafting, or hiking in to a location, then leave the pole at home and cut one to length when you arrive in the woods. I always place a protective cap over any pole I use to relive stress to the fabric at the top. A half tennis ball works well or you can purchase bespoke plastic 'mushroom' caps to go with the Luxe poles. Failing that, wrap a scarf or something soft over the end of the pole. (Watch for moisture transfer in heavy weather, if using fabric though).
    If you are considering this, I would seriously recommend it as a great option. For reference, I am 6Ft 2in tall and have a bad back and bad knees....this tent works well for me.

    • @ItsGoodintheWoods
      @ItsGoodintheWoods  Před 3 lety +1

      100% agreed! I love mine for canoe camping ! It's perfect for it. I have a small cot I use in mine sometimes as well! Can't go wrong. A packable chair too! This is a great year round tent. I have used wooden poles many times, but I feel the pole is worth the weight. All depends on the mission at hand.
      Thanks for the awesome comment! I hope you have many a great many adventures with yours! Happy camping ! Cheers Justin

    Maybe somebody mentioned it already:
    • using zippers by forcing them open or closed like you do, without paying attention to closing the two sides first before using the slider, will wear your zippers out.
    ● rolling the door panels to the inside will keep the doors cleaner and dryer.
    Thank you for the review,
    Huck

      A good suggestion. I have yet to wear out a zipper on a tent though. And I have some old tents that are well used.
      You are absolutely correct about rolling the panels. Being it was a review, I wasn't overly concerned about it. Didn't really put much thought into that. I should pay a bit more attention to details like that. Good eye and catch on your part. I believe you are the first to mention it.

    EXCELENT REVIEW! You can interrupt for dogs and chickens anytime. You started well with the specs, then the basic tent, then the important extras. Did the stove shown come from the same company? You also answered a question about the stove sleeve I had. The cut may be ragged, but it is heatproof. The rusty stove pipe on another was the cause for suspicion. Your detail explanations of how all the extras attach and work was greatly appreciated!

      I have purchased 4 tents from them without issue. I have based their service on my experience with them. But there are far too many people complaining about their experience with the company for me to feel comfortable recommending their products to anyone anymore.

    • @ItsGoodintheWoods
      @ItsGoodintheWoods  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Nate, I have had great luck with their products!
      If you are just setting up a base camp close to a vehicle, I would get the Megahorn. A lot more room and head height. That is nice. However, It comes at a cost of weight. The whole set up is just a tad over 8 lbs. Thats without a stove. It's made of 68D Polyester, That is not ripstop...That could be bad out in the bush. Not a big deal if you are close to your vehicle. So far I really enjoy my Megahorn. For the price, what you get is a good sizeable tent. And it does everything it is supposed to. IMO.
      If you are going to be doing some hiking with your tent, as hunters are known to do. I would strongly suggest one of the other 2 you are considering. They are much more packable.
      I have the Minipeak XL and I love it. I picked the Minipeak over the Hexpeak for several reasons.
      1,The Minipeakk is made of 68D ripstop Polyester. It's rugged. And Polyester does not stretch ( sil sag) when it gets wet. That is important to me way out in the mountains and wilderness.
      The Hexpeak is made of 40D ripstop Silnylon. It is a lighter, larger tent than the Minipeak. And will take on sil sag when wet. Not a big deal, but just another thing to keep track of , monitor and adjust.
      I take my tent way out into the wilderness, so I wanted the slightly heavier, more rugged material. The Minipeak XL.
      2, The Minipeak can be set up with a minimum of 4 stakes. Very easily and fast. The Hexpeak needs 6. I enjoy the simplicity of the Minipeak, . However, there is more floor space In the Hexpeak........Pros and con either way.
      The minipeakXL is more affordable than the HexpeakXL, so those of us on a budget find that appealing too.
      I am sure the HexpeakXL is an awesome tent. I plan to get one someday. But I can not give you my assurance on that as I have no actual experience with one. Given my experiences with Luxe products, I'm sure it's a solid tent.
      I love the MinipeakXL. It has been nothing but awesome for me.
      I hope this helps a bit. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'm happy to help as beat I can. Cheers!

      I have been out in the Megahorn 5 times now. It is an awesome tent so far! I think it is too small for 3 people. 2 people and a stove , perfect.
      I feel the same way about the Octopeak.They claim it is a 6 person tent....that is almost laughable........good luck with that. I bet it fits 2 people with a stove well. Maybe 3. The problem with that is a loss of head height. The Octopeak is just over 6' tall. For reference,The Megahorn is 7'2" , and I can just barely stand in it without my head touching the interior. I am 5'7". You lose head space fast in a teepee tent like these.

    Great review! I've been on the fence about this hot tent setup as I've never done the hot tent thing before. A couple of questions;
    1. I am 6' tall; is the inner tent spacious enough so I wouldn't have my head and feet up against the wall?
    2. I'm looking at their 3W stove to go with the tent, can you keep the little stoves full without embers falling on the tent?

    • @ItsGoodintheWoods
      @ItsGoodintheWoods  Před 3 lety

      I think 6' is right on the limit....I really don't know. It could be just right, or it could be just enough to be wrong. I'm sorry for the vague response.

    • @joelin1596
      @joelin1596 Před 3 lety

      I used this tent with a 3W titanium stove last week. Yes sometimes the amber will come out of the chimney and fall on the tent, it will burn a hole through it. However, it's really rare and you can patch the small hole with nylon adhesive quickly. Despite all the good stuff reviewed in this video, there are a few things I don't like about this tent and the 3w stove:
      1. sometimes it's hard to keep the plastic hooks attached to the fabric loops, they tend to come loose and fall out of the loops.
      2. there are no attach points along the zipper line for the inner tent, so the sides will sag, which is not good for your headroom.
      3. the top vents are kind of small due to the short length of the props. Maybe it's just for the tent I received.
      4. it will take a while to assemble the 3w stove due to the parts involved and severe warp after first use.
      5. the top plate of the 3w stove warps a lot. they use to have solid reinforce strips (1 or 2) along the width but they now only use a shallow stamping to create a little bit of indentation near the chimney. It's not a problem if you only use the stovetop for boiling water but could be troublesome for proper cooking. (I would recommend Pomoly T1 if you don't mind the extra weight)

    • @ItsGoodintheWoods
      @ItsGoodintheWoods  Před 3 lety

      @@joelin1596 I was very suspect of the 3w stove. Thats why I didn't get it. I went with Seek Outside because I wanted a light stove. Its a lot lighter than the T1 .
      I have never had an issue with the loops and plastic clips. I have now had this tent for a year , not once has a loop and clip let go. And I have used this tent a lot. I find it interesting that yours does that. I wonder if the loops are longer on yours.....
      The clip for the inner is a good idea. But I tend to not use the inner. I used it once, the first time I set the tent up. So that is not really an issue for me. I'm sure it would be quite easy to fashion one.
      I would be very interested to hear more about your experience with the stove .....I have a friend that is considering buying one......

      @@ItsGoodintheWoods I didn't like the flute connection at the top of firebox, it seems to be flimsy especially for keeping the spark arrestor tight against the pipe. www.amazon.ca/dp/B0834B1C3N/?coliid=I2GQSZUVHDJYJU&colid=2WW7FEIN6MDKB&psc=0 the link shows a similar stove but with a better design as it combines the choke and spark arrestor.
      I used some stainless steel rivets for the 4 holes at the bottom of the firebox to keep supporting rods centered. I also bought a firebox top plate and use that as a base place otherwise it's hard to keep the stove from sinking into the snow with just the 4 rods.
      I wish I could someday post a video for an in-depth review of the 3W titanium stove.
      seek outside is probably the lightest choice on the market but for me, around 4 lbs is not bad as we regularly pull a pulk sled when winter camping. I'm in Ontario and you know how many lakes we have!

      I suspect that you will like this tent. I absolutely love mine. Just got back from a 3 day canoe trip, I used the Minipeak XL.
      The Megahorn is pretty slick as well. Luxe makes good tents.
      I am glad the video helped you out! Please keep me posted on what you think about the Minipeak XL. Happy camping season !

    The center pole as an option doesn’t seem right. I ordered the tent, then I saw your video. I would have been very disappointed not to receive the pole. I’ll order it separately. It is clearly stated in the website, but I missed it. Thanks for the heads up m

      I am glad that the video came in useful for you. That is what this is all about! I agree, it doesn't seem right at all. You will be paying for shipping, so, you might as well buy the bathtub floor while you are at it. lol This is a great tent system. I really enjoy mine. I hope you like yours. Enjoy that tent sir

    Hi, very thorough review. What do you think of the zippers on the tent and the inner ? Many thanks

      Thank you. I have yet to have an issue with the zippers. They seem fine so far!

    Great review. Without snow flaps do you have wind rushing in at the base of the walls? Thanks!

      Not really. Never been an issue. In the winter I pack down the snow base , and snow usually fills the gaps anyway.
