We have the best people at my work in the cafeteria. They also know us all really well and eventurally pre-emptively make food for you etc. Everyone in our office of like 300+ people also knows each other really well, it's a great place
Living in rural places, the sheriff's office or animal control will sometimes issue disease warnings for wildlife, including both hunting and roadkill. Some also have a service where you can bring animal meat/carcasses in for disease testing.

Completely agree on the UK housing market part. The amount of apartment buildings built in the late 20th century and early 21st as part of some expensive development, now stand completely empty. Some have been remodeled into shops but the 2 or 3 floors above are unused. However they still decide to build new houses with 5 bedrooms that a family of 3 move in to, that seem to take years to build, completely destroying the landscape, instead of remodelling the existing buildings.
I am so glad these are back. I love it when you guys go on big discussions in streams. And this is like the Ribena concentrated version.

The company I work for is currently building a flat in Amsterdam (like on the edge of Amsterdam, not interesting for ex-pats) that costs €10.000,- / m2, and a parking place in the basement costs €50.000,-, I have no idea who comes up with these prices but it is ridiculous. O it has a pool in it. The Flat has a pool, on the 4th floor.!! what a waste of money.

2 of my great grandparants also served (i think 3 but i only know of the two). 1 was a POW in france and the other was a POW in russia. Guess which one had the worse time. Both just normal wehrmacht conscripts though. It's always interesting two hear about the grandparents or great-grandparents of uni mates who were in the SS or the SA or in the HJ or BDM because it feels so surreal.

My mum was a volunteer for The Bat Conservation Trust rescuing and looking after injured bats which were fed on mealworms which need to be live for bats to eat them. It was a common sight to walk in to her house and see her in the kitchen sorting through trays of mealworms picking out the more mature ones for that days feeds. Probably quite disconcerting for visitors who didn’t know her well to see her sifting through trays of what look like maggots on the kitchen worktops and placing some into bowls 😂
Does make one wonder how civil servants, teachers, nurses, etc can live in London's properties. They put up with all that crud for low wage, then having to hand most of it back, just to live in an area. All while knowing, if they moved, their weekly disposables would increase substantially. True heros

Firstly, the hotel story is why I *ALWAYS* chain my door when I stay in any sort of hotel accomodation.... secondly, while the notion of someone sucking my toes whilst I'm unawares and asleep is disconcerting, I think the traumatising bit would be for the manager, as I'm prone to wake violently. So I think I probably wouldn't hesitate or think twice to hoof him in the face with the foot he's not sucking on at that moment....

You'd be surprised how little preservatives are actually in UK fresh meat. There's a reason why a lot of the stuff from the US is illegal over here.
