How To: Solo Travel in Norway with Public Transport | Detailed Itinerary

- Hi everyone! I went on my first solo travel in Norway last summer and it was one of the best experiences of my life :) Some random advices:
- The Norwegian Kroner (NOK) is the currency of Norway. I suggest you change some cash, but keep in mind that credit card is the most used method of payment.
- I’m Italian, so when it rains I use an umbrella. Norwegians don’t. I didn’t think of it before leaving, but now I know that I should have brought a raincoat with me.
- Norway is expensive, but I managed to save some money having dinner at home and bringing with me a packed lunch every day.
- As a girl, I was a bit concerned about travelling alone, but I shouldn’t have had. I always felt safe and respected, so if you’re unsure whether to live this experience or not… Go for it!
Here some useful links and apps you may want to look at while organizing your trip:
- Entur website & app: entur.no/ here you can find bus, train and ferry routes and timetables.
- Skyss website & app: www.skyss.no/e... where you can buy bus and boat tickets.
- “Ruter Billett” app: where you can buy bus and metro tickets in Oslo.
- “Fløyen” app: here you can buy the funicular tickets to get to Mount Fløyen. I recommend going hiking in the morning, otherwise you will have to wait in a long queue before getting on the top.

The camping is quite far from the bus station (30 mins walk on an uphill climb, I didn’t know that before booking…), but there stops the public bus that takes you to Trolltunga.

I recommend going to the KODE Museums, where you can admire Munch and Cezanne’s masterpieces.

I have been several times in Norge, ………i can’t tell you hos much times ……… and always it superb me ! And i was Lücken that the weather was always very good ! Even in Bergen, the town of the umbrella ! Dalsniba and the Trollroad, the Geirangerfjord, the Lysefjord, the Prekestoel, Stavanger, Briksdalbreen ……… and so on ……… Every trip I will do it again with pleasure !👍👌🙋🏼♂️

Bella, since you planning in Jan you must be having Northern lights in mind right. I too am planning to go solo in Feb 2023. Also want to visit Longyearbyen to literally be on top of the world. I'm from India.
Did you end up going? I would love to visit in November or December but I would go with my husband and two kids and I don’t know how safe it would be.

i want to go traveling by public transport too in norway for bout 3 weeks where do i start ? im taking boat to norway kristiansand but where do i go to make plan for transport and where do i sleep locations anyone got any idea's?
Just go and figure it out over there, sleep in hostels, eat where the locals eat and go hiking!
Do you think a 9 days trip is sufficient to cover most in Norway?

Hi, thank you for watching! Not considering the flight tickets, I spent an average of 850€ for a week. This includes 150€ for trains and buses, 450€ for overnight stays, 120€ for the Trolltunga hike and other 100/150€ for food and extras.

Hi! Yes, I went out solo both past sunset and early in the morning, and I always felt safe 👍 No one ever tried to bother me, even when I was in crowded places and in bus and train stations
I was travelling in Norway alone very often. I had overnights in nice youthhostels, because hotels are very expensive. I took the trains, ferries and busses. The people in Norway are friendly and helping you. I never had any problem by travelling alone as a woman!
In summer it's a beautiful country and the days are very long. In january it's light only for a few hours in the south and darkness almost the whole day in the north. The best time for travelling there is in july/august. Then you even can bath in the sea on the Lofoten Islands! I did it!
If you have only 6 nights to spend in Norway and you plan on traveling to three locations. I will be going to Oslo, Stravanger, and Tromso to see the northern lights - do you recommend traveling by air so you dont waste a day with long train rides?
Yes, I would take the plane to get to Tromso, so I could get there in a couple of hours and spend the rest of the time in Tromsø and in Lofoten Islands. Otherwise you might consider traveling by train if you plan to do some stops along the way, but this would take you 2-3 days I think

Hi!! When I visited the museum one year ago, in July 2021, 1 room out of 4 was closed to the public. I checked on Google and it seems like it is now entirely closed due to renovation (it will reopen in 2026 😱)

Hi, yes if I remember correctly you can buy a pass, but since I haven't used it I'm not sure
So would you say the experience without car is not different if you have a car? Can you get to all places?
Public transport is extremely efficient in Norway and all in all I managed to get to all the places I wanted to visit, but with the car your can travel at your own pace and it's easier to move in fiords. For example, if I had the car I would have gone to Stegastein Viewpoint, while I couldn't go there as there was only 1 bus ride/day. It all depends on your budget and on your itinerary: if you're planning a trip with lots of hikes I recommend taking the car because it might be difficult to get to the starting point of the trail.

Hi! I went the last week of July. I did the Trolltunga hike in one day with a guide, as it's not recommended to go by yourself if you've never been there. I booked the tour on Trolltunga-Active website, and there you can find lots of options, including overnight hikes 👍

I am going to do the simialr trip in one month, can i know what is the weather like, what kind of cloth i need to bring?
I traveled the last week of July and the weather was warm; I had some t-shirts and a hoodie for the evening and I was totally fine. Expect some rain, so a raincoat would be useful. In addition Bergen is quite windy so if you go there I suggest you bring a warmer jacket 😊
If you find out what the weather will be like in Norway ahead of time, please inform Norwegian meterologists...

Hi! No, I stayed in private houses with AirBnb and in campings. If you're going solo, the price is high since you have to pay a room for 2/4 people on your own (I spent 70-90 euros per night). You can check the information box for the complete itinerary, useful links and tips :)

Hi. Is the 20km hike to trolltunga is marked ? Considering traveling alone and afraid to get lost
There are for sure some directions on the way but I can't remember if they are enough to be able to get to Trolltunga by yourself. On the other hand, the path is almost all on a highland, so I think it's unlike to get lost. When I was there my tour guide said that the biggest difficulty for foreign tourists was organising the trip: people often underestimate the length of the hike and begin late in the morning (we started at 7:30 am and got back at 19)
It is nearly impossible to get lost in Norway. Up = the view and possibly snow, frostbite, rock slides, rain or some combination of these things, depending on the season. Down = probably civilization. The only exception I can think of to this basic principle are the two eastern valleys. You could get lost in the woods over there. But then few tourists go there anyway, so it's probably not likely to be relevant. Other than that Norway is a highly vertical and self-explanatory place.

The Norwegians took my disabled husband to Moscow AFTER: anti-war pickets of my husband in the Russian Federation, his defense of the rights of Ukrainians in Norway, the issuance of documents to my husband by the Norwegian Red Cross for his close relatives (Polish servicemen repressed by the Russians), sentencing his defender to prison (in married to a citizen of Finland for 25 years) in Belarus, who reported the crime of the Norwegians against the Ukrainians and was recognized as a Political prisoner. My husband and his lawyer warned the Norwegians about the coming war, but they did not believe him. The husband was kidnapped and the war began. And after the war began, the Norwegians do NOT admit their mistakes! Unlike the Swedes, the Norwegians DO NOT LIKE to admit their mistakes even when the Chechen refugees deported by the Norwegians were killed in the Russian Federation (Norwegian media).zzz

@@donmike6241 I think you can find wifi in all public places like trains, train stations, restaurants and museums, but I didn't pay much attention because I already had internet on my phone.
Credit/debit card is a must have in Norway, as you will need it for every purchase. Cash might be useful in some occasions (for example, if you stay in a camping you will need coins to take a shower) and is of course accepted in stores, but it's not as popular as the card.

I will never travel to Norway just to visit the country. Never and EVER.
For me, Norway, like any other Nordic country, means EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY and STABILITY.
A trip to Norway as a tourist would deeply disappoint me.
One of the reasons I wouldn't travel to a Nordic country just to walk - the high prices. Visiting a Nordic country means having a small fortune or sharing half of the trip with another person to save money. To be able to visit a Nordic country I should already be settled there.
I will adjust the youtube recommendations so that they send me more recommendations on how to get a job in a Nordic country and absolutely nothing about travel.
