CLARK, CAESAR A. W. (b. December 13, 1914 - July 27, 2008), nationally known Baptist preacher, was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. He earned the B.A. degree in 1946 from Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, and later received many honorary degrees. After pastoring a number of churches in Louisiana and Tennessee, in 1950 he became the pastor of Good Street Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, where he remained until his death. He was married and had one son.
Two parts of his career in particular vaulted him into national prominence. For many years, dating from the 1950s, he was editor of the National Baptist Voice, a very influential position. He also received acclaim as a brilliant orator. At least six times he was selected as Eminent Guest Speaker at the National Baptist Convention of America, although his own affiliation is with the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., for which he had long been a member of the board of directors. He preached as evangelist all over the country and lectured at numerous colleges and universities. He preached in Liberia in 1972 and in 1980 represented his denomination as a preacher in the Soviet Union. In 1984, Ebony magazine named him one of America's fifteen best Black preachers. He recorded more than twenty albums of sermons. Clark was also a pioneer in the holistic ministry of his church. In 1964, feeling that something needed to be done for the housing needs of Blacks in Dallas. he led the church to purchase the Good Haven Apartments. With the help of government funds the complex was renovated to include central air conditioning for 332 apartments. This partnership with federal funds later became an accepted trend in the ministries of other Black Baptist churches. Single for many years, Clark married Carolyn Elaine Bunche on April 16, 1987. He was a trustee of Bishop College and an important fundraiser for its work. He was also president of the Baptist Missionary and Education Convention of Texas.

I’m now 67 and was so Blessed to sit in the same pulpit with Dr Clark. I was John Westbrook’s Asst Pastor at the historic Antioch Baptist Church in Houston, Tx. It was June 1981. Imagine sitting and talking with this great man of God as a young preacher. I have one of his sermons in my cassette player to this day!

Wow! I'm a Dallas native who now live in Fort Worth. My great aunt, Lucinda Lemons was at Paradise for decades. My wife of 30 years moved to Dallas from Long Island to Dallas and this was her pastor before we got married. Her NY pastor suggested Pastor Clark.

Agreed. He believed that a preacher should get as much education as possible but not enough to not rely on the Source! He said once that anointing just 'takes over'! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. Please consider subscribing, if you haven't already.

Perhaps, not formally although he did graduate from Bishop College. He was autodidactic and read everything! His sermons are evidence of his application to a chair and reading. But when he stood to preach he ' let G-d have his way'!

@@r.e.enterprises I just remember him back in the 70s when I was a teenager he was very short in statue. However, all these preachers would come out to hear him. I would always get in line to shake his hand. He would always say “ pray for me.” I saw him last in 1999 the last time I was present for his revival. He was slower and I think he had a cane. But his voice was still strong. I got in line to shake his hands and now I’m 6’3” and I’m looking down at him and he still says “pray for me.” His sermon that day I never forgot was “JESUS’s arithmetic.” That’s my memory of Dr CAW Clark.
