I love how Pops is always involved and present. You can tell he is super knowledgeable, but also always observing everything to learn anything he can. What an absolute boss!

Love the house build guys...I was a contractor for quite a few years, I insisted that ALL of my guys took the last 15 minutes of the day before they went home to clean up their area, making sure it was safe and presentable. I have been complimented by homeowners many times on how efficient the job was and how clean their property looked inside and out. That got me many more jobs just by word-of-mouth.
Agreed. I was in the construction industry for many years myself as well and it makes a huge difference showing up the next morning to a clean and orderly job site. It helps the workers hit the ground running in the AM. It definitely makes a difference.

Wonder if you can get that door with the ribs running vertical instead of horizontal too? Looks like the view would even be a little less distracted with the ribs running up and down. But I guess horizontal lines is kind of a modern look.

I'd recommend adding some sealer underneath the door seal and some up the sides to keep water and bugs out
its probably a good idea to buy extra parts for that door. Incase the company that builds it goes out of business or changes the design on it. Really cool house :P
I agree with you. I had to replace a door order that added another 4-month wait to receive it.
I don't think that door is meant to be a main entry door just by the name of it "Active Wall Entry Door"

This is what I came here to say, that door is awesome but Maintenance could become a huge nightmare down the line

It amuses me how the boys have that nice kitchen in the new shop - but they always serve up and eat food in the main workshop area.

I would be sure to put some type of caulking under the doors metal threshold to help seal it. It looks great!
I wouldn’t. Imagine the suction that things has. Having a slight air gap is going to help big time if the house is tooooo air tight
@@connorb9097 Yep totally agree, if its too air tight, it could cause other issues.
Since you’re collecting rain water, it won’t be the worst idea to use gutter caps or something to filter out debris before it eve gets into the gutters.
Definitely will do gutter guards!!!

When we built our house, we looked at several companies that do gutter guards. The best company we found and went with is called gutter guard. Lifetime warranty, they come out and do cleaning if required. They were not the cheapest, but had a better warranty and customer service if needed.
I would make sure that your shingles are even safe for rain water collection. It’s best to use metal roofs for collection systems because some shingles can leach off contaminants that you don’t want in your water. If the shingles are safe then I’d make sure you install a Y-strainer to stop any debris from getting into the tanks.

Your contractor needs to keep his subs in check and make them clean up after themselves. It’s a safety issue and part of their responsibility. That being said, the house is coming along and looks good. Love that front door. Be sure to have it rekeyed, since you flashed the keys to us all.

Exactly, my subs don’t get paid until their debris is pickup and their area in which they worked in cleaned, learned it that way when I was a sub, same way I am as a general.
You boys are so lucky to have your dad and mom still in your lives. Cherish them and continue to learn from their wisdom. This month will make one year since my dad passed away. I so miss his humor and guidance. I know he's in heaven, and some day I will see him again.
To make the garage look a lot cleaner use Liftmaster 8500W wall mount for the openers and spec the doors to be "High Lift" so the tracks are as high as possible (close to the ceiling). You won't be disappointed and keep those videos coming...

Amazing house, only point I would make is try and avoid installing that scotia trim at the bottom of the baseboards. In the UK people go to great lengths to avoid it. It’s what is used to cover up the expansion gaps on cheap retro fit laminate flooring. Installing that would make it look like you put your skirting trim on too early and the floor after. Loveeeee that front door by the way ❤️
X2 new floors shouldn’t need those if installed properly. Cheap homes have that
We look at it the same way in Canada. Makes it look like the flooring was a rush job. And yes you are correct. It hides shoddy workmanship.

These guys have done a little of everything. One thing I’ll give them, if it’s something they can attempt to do themselves they don’t pay someone else to do it. They’ve spent a ton of money, BUT they’ve also saved a ton of money by doing things themselves. I’m sure they also saved a lot of money by using their Contractor brother to build Simons house.
Should of run some zip tape over the edge of threshold to protect from water/moisture gettin to sheathing or subfloor, even if its under an overhang. Then a bead of lexel sealant to make air tight underneath door threshold. Just good practice. Amazing job and more house videos please.

You guys should definitely have a professional come out and tint all the windows for your home!! Makes a huge difference in looks and privacy
totally agree but i dont think they'd do they cause they're in the mountains. They should get a privacy gate at the base of the hill to close the roadway for vehicles
UV tint
There in the woods on a mountain pretty sure they got plenty of privacy they don't need tinted house windows lol
If those windows are energy efficient, they typically come with a E coating for additional energy savings. It has a green coating on the outer glass.
Ceramic tinting would be nice with extra UV protection

I do cabinet installs on some pretty high end homes and I have to say your front door is more impressive than anything I have been seeing here! One house here even has an elevator but your front door is way cooler than the front door on that house! House is looking great. I’m sure the Well house builder will, but worth mentioning…one of the accessible walls needs to be removable. The 5,000 poly tanks are big and if there’s ever a problem you want to be able to move them out without having to tear things up. The builder that did my bro’s used locking pins on one wall for this reason. Never had too but nice to know it’s setup that way.

I have been a contractor for 17 year and have never even seen a front door like that. The front door is baller for sure and I am sure sets the tone for the entire house design throughout the house. It's a beautiful house. Congratulations, that is a huge accomplishment to have a house that nice at your age.

I would definitely by extra parts for that front door. Especially the pivot hinge in case the company goes out of business or changes the design of the door. It would suck to spend 5k on a new door because you don’t have a $50 part

Absolutely love the house! I would definitely be putting window tint of the outside of that door.
Custom tinted or frosted glass could come with the door for privacy. Whatever the customer wants.

Should definitely utilize the space under the stairs. May be some drawer fronts on the stairs themselves for shoe storage
I did not get to really see how the steps go, but I was thinking of a side door so as to have a closet under the steps or at least access it to clean. I have seen in some CZcams videos where the stairs lift up like a hood of a car so you can walk in under the steps to gain access to the storage.
that sounds a bit like things you do in a tiny house or a boat..
not really important in a house that propably has a multiple walk-in-closets... each one bigger than other peoples bedrooms.

Looking really nice! That’s going to be a beautiful house when it’s all done, you should feel VERY proud of doing the work required to get where you are. Well done to both of you. Would have liked to see how your wife reacted to the door; I know she doesn’t like being on camera, but that would have been cool to see. That front door LOOKS amazing... I just don't know how practical the pivot opening is... you've basically built a 5 ft door opening, but you can only use at most 3.5 ft of it.

Thats what I was thinking myself. When you open the door, you really have just a small portion of usable passageway. If you can move the pivot inward some, it should still swing and give you more passageway when comes time for furniture and appliances.
Which is as wide or wider than a standard opening
You must huge if you don't fit within a 40 inch door....a door like that is for style man...
i imagine this door will be mainly for company and they will enter/exit via the garage most of the time, think about it
