- For a few years around the turn of the century, Julia Stiles was one of the biggest names in Hollywood, particularly in the teen movie circuit. Her role in the 1999 film, 10 Things I Hate About You, made her a household name, and she followed it with a string of successful flicks, including a recurring role as Nicolette “Nicky” Parsons in the popular Jason Bourne franchise of action thrillers.
These days, however, Stiles hasn’t been getting the lead roles she once was, leading many who grew up with her movies to wonder what happened. Let’s take a look at why Hollywood hasn’t been casting Julia Stiles as much recently.

Did it ever occur to you guys that those films failed because they had shitty scripts? Or they weren't properly promoted? How is Stiles single handedly responsible for the failure of a movie with dozens of people involved in it? And Mona Lisa smile was a great movie. Perhaps it is less interesting if you aren't into art but I thought it was a great movie.

Heath Ledger would never have been considered weird or overrated pre Dark Knight. That film and his performance just amplified his legacy. He was talented in other roles though.

What a shame; she's a great actress. I loved her on Mona Lisa smile and she was great on Dexter.
I think she is quite underrated actually. She just needs more definitive roles like earlier on in her career, but I actually don’t mind her being in the shadows either. I like underdogs. She’ll probably come up with a good leading role in the future, hopefully get nominated for an award and get more roles again.
And yet she's a talented actress as she showed in Dexter. I think in Stiles' case "Hollywood not casting anymore" probably boils down to her making choices that aren't based on box office receipts. Can audiences honestly say that box office blockbusters = great acting or great plots? They don't. They're like fast food - designed to appeal to as many people as possible in as short a time as possible. For every Beyonce and Jennifer Lawrence (who I like) there's a Jennifer Hudson and Julia Stiles making choices that aren't solely based on making money.

Julia Stiles continues to be cast in Hollywood. Just because she isn't in a major headlining role in a movie doesn't mean she isn't getting work. She continues to be cast every year in various films and TV series projects.
I love me some Julia Styles. Hope to see her in some new stuff soon.

She's a great actor, she just ended up in some bad movies and that was the fault of directors, writers, etc.
Julia Stiles is talented and I like her very much. Many of the movies she has been in, however, failed due to poor writing, production, and/or marketing. Movies are the ultimate collaborative effort. Their success or failure are usually due to many factors. The lead actors wrongly get blame or credit.
True, but it is easier for producers to blame the actors so they can choose from another pool of cheap the next big thing actors.
I saw her now in the new TV series RIVIERA, where she is playing incredibly! What an actress. What a style. She for sure is no one's puppet! What a presence.

Actors: if you're cast for anything else than your talent at the beginning of your career, then time is your enemy.
And if you're a woman, time can often be your enemy ANYWAY as Hollywood doesn't really want to cast older women in good roles for some reason.
More like, if you are a woman and you're not smart you will believe the lies that you are "amazing" if you're merely mediocre until you hit the "wall" that more than likely got you the roles to begin with. That wall is called attractiveness. Please form a personality and a craft ladies. Sex is boring and dies without character. ***** Well joke or not a sequel to something like this without Heath Ledger is still a tough sell to audience. I understand that it was a joke but sequel with a whole new cast generally don't do well with audiences who are fans of the original. The Ten things TV show is a great example of that if anyone remembers that. But I can be wrong, however this is all just a what if sinario.
Doesn't help that ABC Family tried to do a series of Ten Things I Hate About You but dropped it after one season
the truth is most actors are lucky to be stars for even a short time, there are way too many actors becoming the 'it' star of the moment and when you are getting older there isn't much parts. trying to find reasons for their disappearance is redundant bc hollywood is a huge gamble anyways.

Just finished the prince and me and honestly I loved it. I was about to be so frustrated that her aspirations would just become a thing of the past, but they actually showed that her dreams for her future are just as important. Personally, I thought it was a very well done movie.

Movies get big because the actors in it looked great. That's unfortunate, but that's what wins fans, awards, etc. She looked amazing in 10 Things I Hate About You, but in more recent films, she hasn't looked that great. People overlook good actors if they're not aging that well. She's only 35, but she doesn't have that gorgeous, doll-like look she had in her early days.
She seems like a very realistic person. She knows that there is a time and place for everything.
10 Things I Hate About You is on Netflix right now and it's super nostalgic but I can't bring myself to watch it because of Heath Ledger being dead :(

Box office bombs can't be laid at her feet. No one has ever "opened" movie with Julia Stiles as the "bankable" crowd pleaser. It sounds more like she needed to change her agent a long time ago who could create buzz about her to work with better material and probably better production and directing talent. There are so many variables that go into making a "blockbuster" but laying it Stiles feet isn't the reason.

my friends & I use to see her around NYC when she attended Columbia - we always joked that she looked like a white female version of Wayne Brady but all jokes aside she is a phenomenal actress and growing up I thought she would be our Merly Streep or Glenn Close....I think her time will come around again- shes not done.
