You already know exactly how to get more players and have craftily already put your plan into action!
1- Rave about it, build up expectations
2- Say its out of print and really expensive to drive scarcity mentality and make the game seem more valuable
3- Offer a solution to this new issue i had never known about by saying actually, some people have preserved it!
4- Have multiple entry costs including free and professional services (and premium)
5- Show exactly how to get the best results on the free option
6- Dangle a damn QR code on screen to ensure we just HAVE to scan it
7- Release the video 1-ish month before UK Games Expo returns and people are looking at tabletop games more

So I don't want to win the contest; I live in Australia and I have the tools to make the P&P set myself, and it's just an absolute ache for you to get them to me.
but what I want you to know is that I teach game making at a university. Part of what that involves is getting people to look at the tactile devices and material shapes that physical games CAN have once they stop thinking of their games as just basically one of three templates. And to do that... I show them your channel. I show them things they can make, with their hands, to make their prototypes and beta models 'feel real.'
Also we sometimes take games apart and look at what they do with their systems, and Netrunner is good for that. So uh that's my advice for getting people into netrunner. Make it a reading for a class of eighty students, some of them will pick it up.

Just getting into Netrunner, I printed out system gateway at my local library on regular paper and then laminated it and now they are in sleeves. It works, but I'm considering doing something to increase their thickness when I make more cards. Thanks for the excellent video!

I'm so glad you posted again. I only just discovered you in the last six months while going through some work-fueled depression. I tried your early lamination-cored cards, and have explored away and came back to a variation that works for me. Gudy as a product is a completely new discovery, I have only been thinking of Super 77, and my quilting mother just showed me "Mistyfuse" which is an iron-able lace of hot glue.
While waiting for my local shop to get their restock of Root, I've been able to print my own copy and played a game with my wife.
Thank you for coming back, and if you were to start a Patreon to support more videos, I'd be so happy to help support you.

    • @DiningTablePrintPlay
      @DiningTablePrintPlay  Před 3 lety +2

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I don't think I release frequently enough for Patreon to be reasonable and while I hope to be getting videos out a little faster than I have the last couple of years, I don't think I can really expect to hit the kind of schedule where I'd be comfortable with it!
Gudy is a good-but-expensive option, for what it's worth. That's the brand name of what I was using (well, "Neschen Gudy"), the more generic term is "mounting film" - it's more or less the general-purpose wide-sheet version of those Xyron machines that turn your regular paper into a sticker. It seems to be particularly popular amongst signmaking people, the rolls I've had came from signmaking suppliers.
Sorry to hear about work issues - seems to be sadly quite common over the last year or so. :/ I'm pretty lucky to have a very understanding boss in my day job, or I'd most likely be in the same boat myself.

Then mention the option of the game and see what happens. Means you don't make them feel like they should on that important 1st game impression.

I missed the contest, but the very fact that I wanted to enter should tell you that you pretty much already met the challenge. Not with the making of stuff (which is why I came here) but with the short description and enthusiasm. That said, besides winning, what might get me to try the game would be a "rainy day play" if the game is simple enough. I once watch a video of this with another game (also not in production). It was part playing on a rainy day (literally) and part game documentary. I was hooked! Unfortunately, it required making a couple things out of wood and rainy days to sucker other folks into playing. I live in the SW US. It doesn't rain much here.

Right so. I've never played net runner. But have always been vereeeery tempted by it.
So my answer will be generally how to get folks into any game, and for me it's just be exited about it!
Whether it's be being tempted to try a new game cause a friend just keeps going on about it. Or me trying to get somebody to play a thing by singing it's praises.
It's that love for it and passion that makes people go.... 'well if he loves it THIS much. Then it must be worth a go'
So in short, do exactly as you've just done in your video. I'm off to buy a rotary cutting tool now :)

Not interested in the contest (even though I'm in the UK) , because I source games with solo play (only get multiple play at Christmas) . I'm just replying because you've shown up after a long hiatus. Good to see you back. Hope all is well with baby.
My first pnp cards were made from your tutorial (sprawlopolis) , but I used a cheap guillotine so the results were not great. I now have a rotary cutter, so hoping for better results.
Yeppers, homemade cards will never match commercial, but I get great satisfaction making cards because, well, it's fun.
Thanks for sharing... and I've just received the materials to make an Agent Decker board.... that game truly deserves your 'awesome' treatment.

@@DiningTablePrintPlay Of course baby is a toddler now... me=Doh!! I didn't notice toddler Jake Jr noises in the video though... but then I'm a bit mutt n' deaf and selective hearing naturally, ha ha.
I missed out on the first kickstarter for Maquis, and I do have the PNP files. Couple that with your brilliant tutorial on creating indented game boards, I'd put those ready to make. Luckily, Side Room Games has an open window for the second edition. I'm soooooo super excited for Sept/Oct.
Last note, I love that you share your PNP files complete. Super respect your generosity, because that's scary for new boardgame developers and designers, but then most people like me would want the professionally published game anyway. I have played this game with my friend and recently found out it is outrageously priced. I would love to get into the PNP version.
I was telling my work friend about it, but the best way to get them involved is to be a good teacher for the first game and bring excitement and encourage engagement with the property. A good teacher can make or break a game for someone to get invested in. I have sold my friends and random strangers on Azul, Massive Darkness, and Gloomhaven. I am more than confident I can sell someone on the best game they never played, and assist them with making the components.
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you build better components for at home hobbyists and i think your approach is methodical and through your trial and error, have drilled it down to the essential steps to create a good product. Thank you for this, as I have not been keeping up with Netrunner as much as I should have been. Your binders made me jelly

We've never played netrunner but I won't enter the contest (also, I wouldn't bother you to ship to Serbia anyways), but this video makes me want to create my own build of the Nisei version rather than just get it (even if netrunner was available). • @DiningTablePrintPlay
      @DiningTablePrintPlay  Před 3 lety +2

I'm glad to hear you're finding the videos useful!
In the UK the board I'm using for the tokens is known as "greyboard", but I don't know how that translates to other languages or locales. It's commonly used for box-making and hardback book covers, as well as the backs of pads of paper and so on - if you happen to have good-quality and/or larger art paper pads (or know someone arty who does!) the backs are often thick enough for tokens on those. If you want to buy sheets of it, you're best off asking at larger stationers, small local print shops, or bookbinding-supply places. I used to get all mine from a local printer - the kind who does advertising booklets, point-of-sale stuff for local businesses, that kind of thing - before they shut down the facility they had in the town I work in.
Any thick paperboard product can work, but greyboard in particular is a good combination of cost-effective with good physical properties. Mounting board (known as mat board in the US for reasons I don't understand - it's used for making the 'passe-partout' coloured-card frame that sits between the picture and the glass in nicely-framed pictures) is relatively available and can work but it's usually much more expensive, and some brands don't hold up so well to repeated handling as it's often made by gluing together lots of thin layers rather than just being a solid block of paper pulp. In the US they seem to just call greyboard "chipboard", but as I understand it that's just a generic term for "thick paperboard that doesn't have another more-precise name" so I don't know how useful that is!

Hi there, Im loving your channel, Im a big fun of Netrunner as well. When the Pandemic hit it was harder for me (here in Chile) get the latest content from Nisei, so I figured another methode for getting proxy cards of the latest set, this is a little destructive so, beware..........I used an original card from FFG's Netrunner, something I knew I'll never use, very carfully peeloff the first layer of the card, this very thin layer of paper has all the printed art, I'll end up with a blank cardstock with a card back of the original Netrunner, then I print whatever card I wanned in a selfadhesive phothography paper (Matte) and carfully put it on the top of the card......the result is amazing, this is ideal to get in a couple of card that you want but can get the corresponding pack or add a nice alt card art in your deck, since is very time consuming I wouldnt recomend bulding an entire deck with this technique, but is almos the exact feel and thickness you'll get on a commercial game. Hope you have a chance to tryit for yourself, maybe showit to your viewers, seeya!!!

What would get me into this game for sure? Frankly speaking that would be something other than persuasion. I'd love to see it translated to my mother language which is polish. This would let me play the game with more of my friends. :D Other than that I must admit I've always wanted to try this title, but I never came around it, probably because it's a typical 1v1 game and I usually play in a bigger group. Considering that, I guess some expsnsion adding another player to the game would be much appreciated, of course if it is possible at all, I'm not completely fsmiliar with all the rules. :) Maybe it's the best time to change that, maybe I should finally give it a try! :D

As it goes, if you feel like you have the time to donate I know NISEI does welcome translations of their sets into other languages...! ;-) I don't know how the process goes and how much work they leave to the translators, though - whether it's a strictly-managed process where the translator would need to work closely with the team to maintain consistency or whether they just need assistance with the words and can do all the rest internally.
Sadly Netrunner doesn't lend itself well to multiplayer in the same way some more-traditional duel games can. There's an official many-versus-one variant from the last days of the FFG era but it's not very widely played. On the other hand, if you can get a big enough group together who already know the game, a cube draft can work very well.

Α Polish translation of Gateway is actually being worked on! I wouldn't hold out hope for a a multiplayer version though, many have tried to come up with multiplayer rules, and failed. It's just completely incompatible with the mechanics. I have had fun playing 2-headed Runner though (you and a buddy take turns to pilot each click in the runner's turn, playing against a single corp player) it's absolutely hilarious cause you trip over each other and ruin each other's plans, but not a "serious" format in any way.

I am a Sr. Network Analyst and CISSP at my company. I have been wanting to find a fun way to get people to think more about how what they are doing affects security. I don't expect Netrunner to really teach them actionable principles, but I could see this as a way to at least bring the topic to the front of their minds. If I can put together a company "training event" where I pair everyone up playing Netrunner, I think this would help both our agendas. I would get people thinking about security in a fun way, and you would be seeing more people introduced to the game. Especially if I also introduce regular company Netrunner hour for interested people to play each other. Of course, this would likely also lead to other games as well, but I think it could be a hit. The timing is also right, since COVID-19 levels are dropping, and social restrictions are lifting. People will be ready for organized social events to come back, and I could probably get the HR Social Events team on board pretty easily.

I think the main actionable real-life security principle you can learn from Netrunner is that it doesn't matter how many layers of security you have, if you don't leave your server air-gapped and locked in a room where no potentially-dodgy employees can get at it, a determined attacker *can* probably get in given enough time and resources! ;-)

Thanks to Philippe Laroche for the reminder about Jinteki.net - I've been aware of it for years but to be honest I have the same problem as Kanakadea - it's still intimidating for someone who's only played against a couple of different narrow sets of local friends to jump into online gaming with random strangers who'll probably dramatically outclass me. But neither of us should be intimidated, the global Netrunner community is filled with great people and in every other way is more welcoming than probably any other card game community I've seen.
(As it happens the original incarnation of Netrunner from 1996 to 1999 was actually sold as a CCG from Wizards of the Coast, and originally designed by Richard Garfield, the designer of MtG. But mechanically the only things it really shares with Magic are that it's a two-player game played from constructed decks of cards, it's definitely nowhere near 'clone' territory.)

Never eh? That sir! Is a challenge! Oh you would have to dissect the method and get unprecedented access to the workflow of professional creation. But impossible to replicate? A human made them therefore we have the MOST IMPORTANT ingredient to remake them!

I live in Canada and I can't *for the life of me* find 200 gsm or 75 lb (203 gsm) card stock, and it is driving me mental. I've always struggled to find decent varieties of craft supplies here. Michaels/Staples/Amazon have terrible selection.
