Scotty no joke this is my truck. Only difference is I got the 4.6l 137k still running like brand new. Happy i took your advice.
Should I get a used Honda ridge line 2010 with 130k for 14k
Are you in Connecticut??
Sorry Scotty . American pollicy doen nor support local jobs and industry. Its mostly lobbying. China, on the other hand, knows the value of tesla . Beef should be with our government incentives . There's no more amarican manufactured car that teslas no other vehicle maker tries to make cars in america. it's just not economically conducive
Your bias love is so unreal not to mention you flip flop. The best car made in the USA was Saturn, which was clearly far better than Japanes. Saturn also beat all Japanese on gas too. In regard to trucks, Ford outdoes any Japanese truck. I lived in Japan and they would tell you USA cars are the best for the money which is why their government keeps them out. Scared to compete. Also if the truck is rusty then I have no use for it. Pointless to have a nice engine if you don't have a frame for it. Typical Toyota. Da
Scotty you were my mechanic 20 years ago when I had a Volkswagen passat. You were great then and great now! Thanks for all the info as usual
Bought a barely used ‘21 Tundra this year - didn’t want to miss out in the chance to get the V8. Should last practically forever
You are one smart man Bill! Got the last year model of a million mile truck!
@@andybales7318 Why would that happen?
Same here.... I love my 2021 SR5 and love the bench seat in the front. IMO, people really need to remember that trucks are built for purpose, not foofieness....
One piece of advice, in 20 and 21 they did not put transmission oil coolers on the transmissions. They said that they were not necessary, I beg to differ, if you have the opportunity have one added, that will make the difference. ! I
Toyota knows nobody uses these for work
I have mine. 2007 250,000 miles. Driving like it’s new. I love it. Had it for 3-4 years. Haven’t done anything but oil changes
Gotta 98 Tacoma 4 cylinder
Automatic 25 yrs old
Was my uncle's
Wanna keep it running for another 25 yrs
Guy in Houma Louisiana had over a million miles on his Tundra. Toyota bought it back from him to reverse engineer it. Gave him a new truck.
That's why they are Scotty's industry standard. They do things like that.
My 89 nissan,v-6,5 speed.all original (cept 2nd clutch)..almost 500,000 mi.
I own a 19 Tundra that still looks and drives like new. Plan to keep it forever.
I can’t even afford the eleven year old models.
The gas ⛽️ & upkeep either!
I usually keep to the 20 year old trucks myself, had my 06 f150 for about 5 or 6 years, 190k, amd still strong, the 6 speed is smooth as silk, and only some small amount of surface rust which is surprising for mn
Me too
Stop being poor 😂
@@cormaro13 I tried 🤣
I love my 2016 Tundra! I had a GM junk GMC 1500 p/up used oil and blew #1 cylinder spark plug Twice! “I said no more”! Lol
Hi Scotty I don't know if you've seen this but see what the old Top Gear crew did !,😊
It’s been called the world’s most indestructible car. Any fan of Britain’s Top Gear show would have seen the episode in which Jeremy Clarkson tried to destroy a Toyota Hilux by setting it on fire, sinking it in the ocean, smashing it into a tree and dropping it from the top of a skyscraper. But each time, the Hilux survived, its engine started and the car could be driven away
Absolutely amazing!
Just got a 2008 5.7 with 160k .. your videos definitely influenced me into scooping one up . Was looking at first gens but happy I got a 2nd generation.. no worry about ball joint / timing belt.
For how much
Picking up a 2008 5.7 with 120k this week for $17k. Already have an 07 Tacoma with 250k now its Tundra time for work/towing :) Hopefully got a couple of million-mile trucks on my hands lol
You are the reason we bought a Highlander instead of an Equinox
equinox ugly small
Could say you “dodged” a HUGE bullet there 😆 a huge bullet of unreliability.
Manufactured in San Antonio, Texas. Awesome.
I think Toyotas are the last brand to downsize their reliable big engines for more “efficient” smaller ones with turbos. Personally wished they didn’t and just stuck to what’s proven…
You can thank CAFE and emissions standards for that. It was unfortunately inevitable
@@KLucero22 I’ll be very honest it took Toyota so long to figure this out just so it wouldn’t have problems like other manufacturers I mean look at ford and their eco boost engines always failing lol
@@BigAltimaEnergy719 agreed
I swore that they wouldn’t and would bring forth the hydrogen engine to keep combustion large engines but also cut on emissions. Wishful thinking I guess
Well at least their turbo 4 cyl isn’t that small compared to Hondas 1.5 turbo and Nissan 1.5 turbo 3 cyl, their twin turbo v6 could use some work and refinement
You are so amazing Scotty! I thankyou so much for all your videos!😉👍👊👌
Scotty gets so excited when he reviews a vehicle that has stood the test of time. Gotta love him! ❤😂😊🎉 Hey, Scotty, what make is that truck again? Hyundai?
You know I wouldn’t have looked at a Tacoma if I didn’t find your videos, I did buy a 2023, I love it!
Most reliable brand ever made!
Whatever people said, I love my gx460 V8. Great vid, Scotty!
What years are good on the Tundra 4x4? I have a 2002 but might like to upgrade to the larger Tundra 4x4 long bed!
Thanks 4 the vids.
Hi Scotty, what scan tool are you using? I need one for my 2018 tundra to read transmission fluid temperatures. Thanks! 😂 never mind I just rewatch your video. I guess I missed that part.
My mother's 2005 Chrysler 300c hemi, bought new in April 2004 is the most reliable car ever made, PERIOD! 19 years and the only thing replaced besides tires and brakes were one set of front bushings. Still drives like new with 160k miles and the original battery lasted 12 years with the 2nd battery already at 7 years old.
Scotty, What Model Year Tundra is the best to buy used, from a reliability and maintenance standpoint?
I just bought one of these. I did not want a V6 turbo. Bought a 21, the last V8. Rock solid.
Had a 2000 tundra that I sold to a friend with 420000 and is still running fine. Replaced it with 2021 limited tundra. Stoked!
Just bought a v6 2005 4-runner.
135k miles
Mechanic said it’s in great condition, nothing wrong, no codes. Fuel trim was “excellent”!
God Bless You Scotty . 🤗🤗
I agree with you on that one Scotty that’s why I bought two of them.
2015 Tundra 5.7 137000 miles, running strong, by far the most reliable truck
Most reliable vehicles ever are '60s chevys with the strait 6 cyl(no timing belt OR timingchain!!) & poweglide 2 speed auto trans. After 55 years, my friends '68 nova with that motor & trans is still kicking with no repairs or breakdowns he couldn't fix on the side of the road himself - like filing or replace the igntion pts, or replacing a fuel filter or even mechanical fuel pump!
My mechanic told me and showed me that my 13 Tundra was just as beefy as a 3/4 ton Ford or Chevy. From frame to brakes to front end it was as solid and heavy duty. They are surely great trucks. 4x4, work truck edition, long bed.
Don't believe everything people tell you, just because your mechanic says that it doesn't make it true, instead look at the data and look at how many Ford and Chevy and Dodge were sold vs Toyota, there's a reason why Ford sold over 1million truck's while Toyota Tundra sold only 100,000.
And how many of those million fords end up being lemons? Gotta look at the overall stats that are relevant, sure the older fords with the 4.6 and 5.0 are decent and some exceed expectations but the newer models report more issue than the tundras and even back 20 years ago tundras reliability still outperformed the ford trucks
@@MrBbbruins8 tundra is the reality
What most people probably don't realize is that there are parts on a tundra that's a lot beefier than on other trucks. That includes half-tons and three-quarter ton trucks. Even though people bash the new tundra for having a v6, it too has major parts on it that are beefier than the other guys still.
Many construction companies built of the back of ford trucks….Toyotas might be ok for landscaping.
Excellent vehicle. Man, If one like trucks, this is the one to go with. Thanks.
Scotty told me to keep my 03 Ford F150 i bought new in 03 and it still has no rattles and runs, looks, like new with 163k, thanks Scotty, will do sir!!!
I like that generation of F150s! Good call!
I have a red 03 regular cab flare step side short box. It's more or less my garage queen. Only use it occasionally. Still get looks and compliments now and then.
Those 4.6 modulars are truly a testament of time
Got a new ‘23 Tacoma Trd Off Road. I’m sure you’re right, I’ll probably fall apart before it does! Great cars and trucks!
@@davefortier yeah that’s why his sons own two, he never said that. You got the last year of a reliable truck Derek that’ll last you forever.
Proudly Made in Mexico. Tundra made in USA
That’s my favorite body style of the Tundra. I want one.
These older, previous-generation Toyota Tundra's with the 5.7 L V8 engine and the six-speed automatic transmission are currently road worthy and strong. It is now an actual pick-up truck with a higher odometer reading, because it is a 2012 model. The newer, current-generation Nissan Titan with the 5.6 L V8 engine and the seven-speed automatic transmission is a real, Japanese pick-up. I would like to own a 2018 crew cab model one day. Thank you very much.
Do a video on a second gen sequoia!!
Yes Scotty! I LOVE my Toyota Tundra crewmax limited 😊 on my way to the million miles Tundra club 💪
You ever coming to Michigan?
I'm actually looking at buying one and was going to wait till the end of the year hoping prices would come down on the 2023 model, but if they're not making a 2024 I guess It's better not to wait?
Amazing that not everyone is driving a Toyota!
I have 04 Tahoe Z71 with 243k. Same engine and tranny. No major repairs.
I've always been in love with the tundra.
This is my co-workers truck! Hey Jason!
Looking to buy one. Are there any years to avoid?
I’m getting the V8, 4WD, large crew cab.
inherited a 2007 5.7 131k from family member (I actually picked it out back in 2008 with 10k on it for them).... replaced a 2007 laramie 1500....... I am a auto tech, and auto collision tech and agree probably some of the best used trucks.. doesnt have all those cam phasers and stuff that fails on new ones.... I know i need to dive into the Cats/O2 sensors with my MS908 soon he had started replacing the CAT's on one side when I received the truck
Never change man
Do a video on the GMT-400 platform. From 07-13. I feel like those were the last great gm products. Exception to the Escalade
That’s gmt 900 and they were absolute garbage. Afm and crap interiors. I sadly bought one new.
I agree. Drop's the damns prius so's now.
I have a 2009
169,000miles and I bought it for 5k
What should I do to make sure it’s running for another 200,000. I don’t think it has any work needed but what preventative maintenance either quarterly or yearly should I do..
MY FIRST VEHICLE!!
I have a 2008 Tundra SR5 with 72K miles on it. I love it.
At 112,000 thousand miles, ..I would hope everything still worked!!!
I just got a 2019 Tundra SR Double Cab 4.6 V8 Work Truck package 6.5ft bed. Love it so far. Only thing I don't like is it says it can tow around 9,000 lbs, but there's no tow mode. It also has the 6.5 ft bed
Pontiac grand prix. Over 300,000 miles going strong delivering mail. Pontiac 250,000 miles running across montana insurance car first transmission service still looked good.
Great Tundra Truck... love that 5.7L V8!
and that 5.7L loves gas. Looooooots of gas. Can't get enough gaaaaas. Give me a turbo diesel
@@Rimrock300 I don't have any complaints about the 5.7's fuel consumption... Turbos on an engine is God's way of telling you it ain't got enough cylinders ~ The American
Just bought a 2014 tundra 5.7L with 30K miles. Needless to say I won’t be needing another truck for a long time.
How much was it?

Come on Scotty, there's a hill in Rhode Island?? Give me a break! 😉 Toyotas are great but one of the most over-engineered things I ever came across was the cigarette lighter socket assembly in a mid-90s Toyota Corolla.
I start off the day with a Scotty video and end it with one from Benny Hill. I love to laugh and have smiles. Thanks Scotty!
Goondt Heaving Ev-eeee=buddy
Have an 08' Tundra with 160k, just breaking it in.. I once had to bring it to a mechanic...the windshield sprayer was weak
In what year did Toyota start using the timing chain instead of timing belt?
When he mentioned the junkyard the Chevrolet dealership photo just appeared 😂
How do you feel about 03 g35 sedan infiniti
I love my 2021 toyota tundra trd offroad v8
I've been looking for a 2018/2019 tundra TRD up here in Alberta. They are hard to find for a decent price
Scotty can you please do an updated video about maybe different ways to properly lift a car for the average person? Last vid was 3 mins long like 10 years ago. I saw an accident in highschool and now I'm 36 and still afraid to climb under a lifted vehicle. Please help.
Understand that the engine side and axles will be heavy. Most vehicles have a factory weight balance. Check the back seat. If there's large heavy objects...... A gallon of water weighs about 8 lbs. If pinch welds are used, you absolutely need the lift pads with slots. The point is that the nose will sometimes be heavier and try to slide if there's any tilt or flex in the lift. The pads must match the purchase points of the vehicle. The center of gravity on an unloaded pickup truck is somewhere close to the driver's feet.
Yo Scottys son have that lifted tundra
Use ramps if you don't need to lift the entire vehicle, handbrake on, chock the wheels.
I use rhino ramps they can hold 6t tons. Pretty safe
Body-on-frame is easy. As far as unibody, the lift points shouldn't be that hard to find, just make sure you're lifting the right part, or you will do damage. Always use wheel chocks, use both jackstands and the jack itself as well, meaning once you jack up the vehicle and lower it onto jack stands, keep the jack in place as an extra layer of protection.
Scotty is in his element sitting in a Toyota especially his favourite one
Scotty, or anyone else who can help, I have tons of inner CV axle play, where it meets the transmission. It's a new to me 06 matrix xr FWD. I ordered the axles and seal. Would I need to replace the bearing too? ( the transmission cv axle bearing)
Once you pull out the CV joint youll be able to see if you need to replace the bearing on the transmission .
Scotty, how do you clean the engine without damaging the electrical system?
I was selling my car so looked this up on CZcams but after seeing u have to disconnect some things I decided it was not worth it.
Hi,timing chains and components do still need to be replaced .
I have over 390,000 mile on my 1990 Toyota Hilux.
Great. Now the market will hold the prices even higher.
Where can I buy the machine you used for this video?
My 96 Dodge Cummins diesel pickup truck is 270k miles all original and still pulling without breakin a sweat. I wouldnt sell it for less than 10k if I was desperate
What happen to your Tennessee home😂😂😂?❤
Hey Scotty, I like toyota too but drive a 20 year old ford, no rattles and only put a starter in it
I thought Scotty was going to be excited because someone brought him a 1994 Celica, not a Tundra! Interesting with the bed liner. I thought Toyota has been using coated bed liners in their trucks for quite a while. My 2006 Tacoma has an integral plastic/poly/resin (coated?) liner, its worked great and has held up to a lot of my DIY homeowner abuse. Maybe they use a steel bed on the Tundras? Both are great trucks.
I'd love a Tundra but it wouldn't fit in my garage lol
I just bought an XTool D7 and am disappointed that I didn't know anything about the IP616. Looking at it now. Has life time free updates. I have to pay yearly after 3 years for my d7. Looks like the IP616 is not bi-directional. I am happy that my D7 is bi-directional. It is a keeper. And the D7 is selling at a discount. $115 off. So I just knew something newer was coming. IP616 isn't competitive. The IP819 might be better. It is selling for nearly double what I paid for the D7.
The IP616 has less special functions and no bidirectional control that's why it's free updates.
Bi-directional control is a big feature in scan tools.
The IP819 is basically a cost reduced D8. It has a smaller screen, half the battery and storage capacity but it's $100 cheaper.
Which year is that?
There are two types of leather seats in Toyotas: New and cracked.

Hello Mr. Scotty I recently found you and subscribed to you. I'm coming on here to ask you sir something. I'm trying to help my mechanic that's working on my BMW. I have a 2015 BMW X5 XDrive 35i, it's a twin turbo 3.0 inline 6. AWD. A couple of weeks ago, I got this message on my dash .It told me that "The engine is running hot, drive moderately. Come to find out that it was a number of things. He replaced the thermostat, and coolant pump. But he noticed that it was still running hot. The coolant fan ( radiator) wasn't turning on. He could turn it on with his computer, and it would turn on when he would turn on the A\C but it wouldn't turn on while idling. He thought it to be a sensor so he replaced that too. Come to find out that somewhere is an electrical problem. Any advice you can give Or maybe you know what's going on here? Any advice I could give him would greatly be appreciated. He doesn't know that I am soliciting help on here. He's a general mechanic that doesn't really work on BMW in a whole we are here in Texas by the way. So thank you in advance. You sir have a great day.
My Ford Truck would drag that truck around Connecticut with you in it.
I get upto 18mpg on my 2021 mostly about 16-17
Afternoon Scotty! 🏁
Afternoon!
Well that's a nice newer fangled truck you got there my old 1995 f150 with the 300 4.9l still runs and drives like new she can out pull above her weight class and is the best damn personal work truck I've ever had and I've driven other trucks even newer ford's and there not as well built and strong as the old girl i will say one thing that helps these trucks is the timing gears no belt no chain no problems also Mine is a 5 speed manual and not the Mazda 5 speed the heavy duty one. Aside from basic maintenance she's never let me down in the 330k mile she has on her and parts are everywhere and dirt cheap if they are needed. I changed the water pump that didn't fail the gasket did but because it was off i just put a new one on and it was $35 dollars for a gates brand water pump it's been on the truck now for over 4 years.
Those 300 engines are not barn burners. It's just an old turtle that doesn't stop.
@@marshmower slow and steady wins the race I've pulled over 8000lb with this old gas truck and never skipped a beat. Ya she's no diesel but she gets every job done i ask of her.
yep 1993 f150 4.9 stick like yours everything basic no factory a/c even. Simple and easy to work on truck 218k no leaks drives like new only bad thing is the no factory ac for desert of Arizona but i drive my old 96 jeep grand cherokee that has cold ac and save the ford for the winter and use the wing windows, love me some wing windows
My father inlaw always says how his ford never broke down except except except
When it did
@@sinjin90ful I'm here in North Carolina and mine has no ac from factory and the single gas tank. Just base model but that's all I need nothing more just a simple man with his truck. Lol
I would love to have a Toyota V8. (Wait, I have a 1UZ.) The 3UR engine is bulletproof.
When I see Scotty sitting in a truck, I press play.
Dirty paint the underside with regular paint or Rustoleum
I love Toyota products too but come on scotty,it's a little obvious in your eyes Toyota is Best at everything and it's true Toyota is one of most reliable products but don't give me the nonsense of Tundra being better than F150 at Towing. Just remember people people buy different cars and trucks for different reasons. Some are sexy, some run smoother, some are more reliable and some Tow more and it's not the Tundra.
Don't be too much delusional with f150
what do you recommend ? 4wd or 2wd only ???
Both are good depends what you need
I have a new Mazda but I refuse to get rid of my 97 Toyota Corolla with 237K miles on it. It won't die no matter what I do to it. I actually got it repainted a year ago. I'm going to get the interior redone too. Call me what you will, I love that car.
Toyota is just the best
I'd pay to see a conversation between this guy and Stonnie Dennis
112k miles? Not even broken in.
You go Scotty ya madman ha ha
3.5 litre v6 has all sorts of issues ....
Those old ones were way more mature and bettee
I have a little of surface rust on the frame of my 2017 Chevy Silverado from going to visit my father in PA. I never thought the frame would have surface rust since the frame is coated with a rubber type coating. Sometime in the next couple of years I'll have all the surface rust removed & the frame & under body re-coated. I plan on keeping this truck for at least 5-6 years & it would be money worth spending until I can pay cash for a new truck & the prices come down to reasonable prices. I have always paid cash for every car or truck I have always owned. I don't believe in financing a car or truck unless you positively have to. Plus, I just purchased another 4 year extended warranty which covers everything that I require.
Forget the rubber undercoating, it flakes, chips from rocks and water gets under it and makes the rusting worse and you can't even see the damage. Get the truck undercoated with a lanolin undercoat. It self heals and and is the best rust protection you can get.
Can you please send me the information for your scan tool I'm a hopefully up coming honest mechanic
