  • This is our friend Patrick's old 1984 Toyota AE86! Under the hood is an S2000 F20C which was swapped into it back in the mid-2000s to help it slam curbs at the track just a little harder. Our friend Adam from AMT Machine shop here in Vancouver did the fab work on the car originally to fit the engine. Now under new ownership of Dylan (@decadedrivers), it's once again gone through a transformation to suit the next phase of its life. Enjoy!
    The F20C is the perfect swap. Still true to the original 4AGE feel (16 valve, N/A 4 cylinder), just with a ton more power and torque. Enjoy!

    I'll never understand why people give the start button on the s2000 such a hard time. It came out 10 years before hands free key fobs became a thing. It's still preferable to a single key that cranks it IMO. It feels more special, and works exactly as intended. If it was good enough for a 2008 Ferrari F430 I think it was good enough for a 2000 Honda

    The "Purists" should direct the anger at Toyota for not making a modern-day 4age.
    Toyota gave up on decent 4-bangers (and well everything else), Honda didn't.

      The 3S BEAMS engine and the 2ZZ were modern 4AG’s. Today Toyota’s turbo 3cyl from the GR Yaris/Corolla are the good modern 4AG. Toyota is currently also developing a new 4cyl right now if you follow the news. So I don’t know what you’re talking about

      I don't know what you're talking about. 2zz Is/was cool but also nearly 20 years old, also known for horendous oil issues, isn't it?
      Listen I'm a toyota fan, but they haven't made a good 4 cylinder N/A engine for decades, only v6's.. and even those are bland af, but also reliable af.

      @@starfox_wr-45e93 everything is turbo now if you’re talking about today.
      Honda has given up on the N/A 4cyl just like Toyota did too. Look at the new type R and the Si’s, they’re all turbo. So if you want a N/A 4cyl, the closest thing is a FA20/24 in boxer format.
      This AE86 in the video has a F20C engine from an s2000 that came out the same era/time as the 2ZZ from the Celica GTS and Lotus Elise, so the engine in this swapped AE86 is just as old as the 2ZZ. Both are old N/A engines.

    This was such a treat for me since I own a 2000 AP1 S2000 with the same F20C1 and I own an AE Corolla GT (not 86, 111) with the 4AGE Blacktop 20 Valve The 20 Valve is very popular as a swap for the AE86 but the F20C is the ultimate Props to the owner for pulling this off

    There are certain cars that their appeal isn’t because it was in movies or manga but it’s that sound. Not that this Honda engine isn’t good or sounds bad but it isn’t the sound of a 4G especially modded like the initial d was it makes a unique sound. Swapping a v8 in a rotary might make more power, be more reliable but the body isn’t necessarily what makes the car unique.

    to put everything in perspective, Toyota did not built its own engine till this day, Yamaha signed a life time contract to supply every god damn engine for toyota, so a Toyota with a Vtec engine in it doesnt matter much IF it made it better power than the 4age

    The biggest difference of it from then to now is the removal of the front half cage of the car....now it is no longer an acrobatic move to get into it....

    It sounds like VTEC is not engaging, there's no audible tone shift at least coming through on CZcams. Given that it's using a factory ECU (assuming this since it requires a Honda key to start), there should be a very noticeable tone shift when VTEC engages at ~ 6000 RPM and I'm not hearing any change in tonality at all - just what you'd expect from higher revs on the smaller camshaft lobes.

    With individual throttle bodys and a nice, clean build N/A setup?
    there is a hillclimb video on youtube.. a Toyota Starlet with 4A-GE swap. N/A with healthy 260hp. Would be a banger in a light weight S2000!

    the 4age is shit. i spent 9 grand NZD on a worked 20v and tune just to make 130whp.

    Ruined it with a Honda engine, Should of kept it Toyota, if you wanted variable lift and variable cam timing the 2zz engine would have been perfect.

      If you haven't had the opportunity to check a North American model, I assure you they are stamped "AE86" in the firewall :)

      That's the way Honda hade it U had to turn the ignition on with the key and then start it with the button
