I mean it probably wasn't as bad as it sounds, I'm sure she had a good childhood and by that I would think they were able to go into the forest and explore and play around and because they had basically no restrictions, they would need some way to call them back for some reason or another, so a bell would be the indication to head back home for food, or to sleep or for whatever reason. (this being my first time hearing this and seeing her) but it sounds like she was raised as some dog or something, like it sounds like she wasn't allowed in the house unless it was for food, and I'm guessing for sleep.

actually here in the nordics it is quite common for daycares to bring the kids to the forest for a whole day of learning and exploring once in a while. for me it was basically just me, two adults and like 15 other 3-year-olds having the time of our lives. and with my family having a small forest of our own, i basically had the same childhood as aurora, roaming around there by myself, playing and exploring. for some reason this is incredibly foreign to my anglophone friends, but i just see it as a perfect way to develop the child’s creativity, sense of freedom, and introduce them to our beautiful nature, which is too often feared rather than appreciated
Yes! In Germany as well! Kids would always play outside everyday and we’d go into the forest once a week. Sometimes we’d make a fire and grill some food, sometimes we’d visit animals there and learn about the plants, mushrooms and folklores about certain areas. Or we’d make art out of leafs and stones and other things wend find. Now that I’m an adult I really appreciate having the luxury of being outside and exploring nature as a child.

We have rainforests, but they are miles away from the city and very dangerous. The biggest ones are protected (you have to pay to enter) and most of the other ones are in mountains and super cold.
