    You’ve gotta hand it to Mick. He was in his 30’s when Motley Crue reached fame. He could’ve went off the deep end but remained the most level-headed of the bunch. He must have had lots of patience dealing with Tommy Lee, who is 11 years younger and wanted to party 24/7

The band got their name when Mick was introduced to the three young musicians and the first thing out of his mouth was: "Oh, a bunch of motley fools" hence the bands name. 😉

    It's a shame that the 80's metal bands get shit on the way that they do . These guys were the last big generation of Rockers to really hit it big. Sure you have your metallicas. and slip knots... but a metal genre as a whole was never more flamboyant and over the top than the 80's metal bands. Some folks call them Hair bandsas a form of insult.. but to me that is no insult. These guys sold out ARENAS... STADIUMS... and everything else they played. from the whiskey a go go o the strip, to the oakland coliseum. I didn't want to make slam dunks with Jordan back them. Or hit home runs with Don Mattingley. I wanted to wreck hotels, get gdrunk and blow lines off strippers tits down at the cat house with motley crue.

      JackG79 not all 80s metal acts, it was mainly just the glam bands. Metallica and all the other thrash metal bands (as well as the (nwobhm, power, death/proto black metal bands) from the 80s didn't "get shit on the way they do". And Justin briber, cardi b and people like that play in stadiums too, so status doesn't define skill

    • @JackG79
      @JackG79 Před 5 lety +21

      @@davidcatanus4922 and out of all those bands you mentioned the only one of them that was even remotely close to being the size of the top hair bands of the 80's was Metallica. Hair metal and Glam bands were the last big genre of heavy metal to make it big I don't care what Justin Bieber or anybody else did I'm talking about metal acts. And pointing out their ability to pack stadiums wasn't meant to gauge their talent, but instead their level of commercial success. Poison, Ratt, Skid Row, GnR, Motley Crue, warrant, whitesnake, Cinderella and others were def. Talented musicians. While the metal they played was.more of a mainstream flavor, i don't think shitting on them and calling them hair bands or looking down on them because of how corny the times were is particularly fair. Listen to Eddie Trunk on Trunk Nation SiriusXM sometime. He has talked about the mistreatment of so called "hair" bands. And that it is 100% unwarranted. Obviously this Is my opinion. Not everyone's. A lot of folks don't care for that genre of music. Which is fine. But to slam them because of the look back then in the 80's. is short sighted.

    • @davidcatanus4922
      @davidcatanus4922 Před 5 lety +4

      @@JackG79 fair enough, I kind of see your point now and understand. But I think a lot of people, especially thrashers/extreme metallers shit on the glam scene cause a lot of those bands did suck like most people said and weren't even metal... they thought that guys dressing like girls to appeal to the masses wasn't what metal should be, and even the godfathers agree with them (ie. Dio, ozzy, lemmy), not to mention that some of the bands you mentioned never categorized themselves as metal nor sounded like it (except for a few white snake songs, early motley crue, etc which can very well pass as being metal). It was mainstream media that did cause they never knew what metal was/still don't). However, dokken, ratt, quiet riot, skid row, wasp, twisted sister were some good ones and my favorites that came out of that scene; they were better and heavier than most of their contemporaries and had great musicians as well such as george lynch And warren dimartini. And as far as the metal acts go with making it big, don't forget that Judas priest, iron maiden, saxon, megadeth, slayer, anthrax, etc. (Who aren't glam bands or metallica) are still packing arenas/stadiums to this day. And sure the big 4 are the only thrash bands playing in venues like that, but even the other bands outside the big 4 are still playing in sizeable concert venues, unlike most glam bands ( except poison, motley crue, winger, whitesnake, cinderella) who are getting gigs no bigger than food festivals, county fairs or local bars

    • @JackG79
      @JackG79 Před 5 lety +4

      @@davidcatanus4922 I couldn't agree more. You couldn't fill a phone booth with most of the Glam bands that the labels threw together to try to cash in in the scene. However all the bands you just named named, deserve a lot of respect... Beyond being simply called "hair" bands. If u check out some of the music Cinderella has recorded in the last 10-15;years, it's WAY more of a blues rock sound than some of the stuff they put out in the 80s. I just think they don't get their due because they are labeled as a "hair" band. Which is interesting because even their debut album back in the 80s did did have some no doubt hair metal / 80s metal / Glam songs... The rest of the album is a hard rock classic sound much like ACDC. I believe the album was night songs. Well being labeled as one of the Glam / hair bands in the 80s they are a band that is capable of creating a great sound but doesn't really get the chance. And if you ever see the documentary "anvil" at some point, a business executive said something very similar about the band Cinderella you. It doesn't really matter to me if they're from Glam, New Wave BHM... Thrash, hardcore, or any other genre of music. I just hate C-Town dead musicians not get their just due because of a stereotypical label put on them from the past. I think we are both saying the same thing to a point I just think we're approaching it from different angles

    I was born in 1998 I came on to all this kinda music by myself it wasn't passed down through parent or other family members it's something I just found myself and it became a huge part of my life. It's a shitty thing when u realize music like this probably won't be back not just motley crue but bands that were around there time. Each band was unique they had there own style for the most part and the were actually talented no auto tune, no repeating 4 words the whole song and mumbling it. Lol and as crazy and drug fueled as these bands were it was always still about the music. This generation sucks and when we're older kids are going to be looking back at pop stars and rappers as there "classical" music. I wish I could've been a teenager around that time though no phones,no internet. They seem like such simpler times

I started playing guitar when I was 5 I'm 20 right now and I'll fuckin tell ya man I feel sorry for the kids who will never feel that rush you get when your plug that guitar in or turn on some actual good fucking music not this rap bullshit good to know the 80s were as badass as I thought they were 🤘

It’s a basic human need that nearly everyone enjoys and just because things are more convenient doesn’t mean kids aren’t still hanging out at shopping centres and outside having fun. Kids are still going down to the river to swim and hanging out nearly everyday after school. Yes I wish people weren’t as addicted to social media as they are, but we are still making memories and having fun.
