    Super easy solution if you have a MacBook and want to connect to apple computer in another room.
    Finder>network>select the computer you want to mirror>screen mirror. DONE! Super easy and reliable. No cabling required!

    I have been using avid control on an iPad which is great solo sessions especially when moving around the room from drums to vocals

    This is the intelligent engineer and cheaper way of doing it - if you don't already have an iPad, or an older Mac.
    I started out using Logic Remote on my iPad, and then TeamViewer on my old Mac eventually. All over WiFi, zero latency.

    I'm a huge fan of the Avid control app bc everyone has at least one device they can use it with and it runs on WiFi. For complex recording from the other room, group and arm your tracks, set up the first playlist, then you are pretty much just using the transport controls anyways. The iPhone is good enough for this.
    Obviously the downside of this setup will be editing or producing but this will get you through multitracking yourself when no one can press the buttons for you.

    Excellent video. Thanks for the tip. I like the IP extender idea for distance. My “recording booth” is converted closet in the same room. I’m using an HDMI wireless caster which works great. Bluetooth mouse and keyboard are close enough so I have a full wireless remote control.

    Thanks, Andrew, for a very useful video. I myself had a similar problem a few good years ago with controlling a computer with a DAW remotely. I once bought a device called TranzPort from Frontier Design Group. It still works today, despite the passage of years. But, of course, a set is better: monitor+keyboard+mouse - it's better to see (not just hear) where you are in the session. Stay tuned!

    Andrew, have you ever considered using eucon/avid control? It took me a minute to get it really stable, however I am completely blown away by how deeply integrated into pro tools it is. I just don’t know why everyone isn’t talking about it? You can control pretty much every imaginable aspect of pro tools from an iPad/ control surface. Every single Plug in, I mean every single thing.

    Very interesting, I was thinking about that setup to record drums from another room and first thing that came to my mind was "screen sharing" with macOS but I was sceptical about the latency. I have a spare mac mini 2014. Is anyone doing this way via ethernet with good results? If not, I'll go with a KVM switch too. Thanks Andrew for the tips!

    So crazy i just bought an external display and keyboard yesterday lol ok so i have a question! I have a total of 3 screens, the first being my laptop with my Antelope Goliath software on it and my 2nd larger screen has my DAW. Now the question is how can i get my 3rd display to display my DAW to the drummer as well so we can simultaneously see the session when tracking. For some reason my MAC lets me show 3 screens BUT each their separate screen which im needing my 2 displays to mirror the same screen so we both have the DAW. Any ideas guys?

    First off all, GREAT video! Thank You so much for the awesome content!
    I'm about to get serious about my home studio and I would like to know your opinion about a next upgrade I'm gonna do.
    For a great tube mic under 2000€, which mics do you recommend for voice and brass (trumpet solo)?
    My gear:
    SSL2+
    Shure sm57
    DT 770 pro 80 ohm
    Focal Alpha 50 1st GEN
    I'm searching for a WARM, COLORFUL yet CLEAN sounding mic, so I'm thinking about to buy one of these:
    WA 47 - 900€
    AUSTRIAN AUDIO OC 818 - 1000€
    LEWITT PURE TUBE STUDIO SET - 1150€
    LA Atlantis - 1585€
    MOJAVE MA300 - 1700€
    PLEASE let me know your opinion! Thank you so much!😇💖

      @@itsstudiotime what did you used to do when you had the two apollos cause im seeing now I only have 8 cue outs

  • @WhiteCatStudio-recordingstudio

    I use Avid Control to remote Pro Tools and it works great. I have hdmi and usb lines in my walls from control room to the drum room witch is my main recording room. I don't know why I can't use my keyboard and my track ball at the same time. I ended up with my track ball, my iPad and a screen to record myself.. The only things I can't remote are the preamp 🤨. So it takes me some round trips before making music 🤣..

    I wonder if a remote desktop -based system would be more robust?

    • @AudioWonderland
      @AudioWonderland Před 16 dny

      It absolutely is. I get ProTools is popular but its not nearly as popular in the home studios as it is commercial. This video is of no use to me. I don't use Avid or Mac products. I have been using RDP solutions for 10 years or more in the studio and before that professionally. Its a lot less complicated overall. His comments about it at the end is just BS and indicative that he doesn't know how to use RDP.

    • @ShimiHalperin
      @ShimiHalperin Před 16 dny

      @@AudioWonderland Fair amount of vitriol in your comment. You doing OK? I'm feeling a little imprisoned in my home studio lately. I got a little Korg Mikro that I can take to Starbucks with my laptop that helps a lot. It's been weird post-covid, a lot of my social stuff is still on zoom... which I hate!

    • @AudioWonderland
      @AudioWonderland Před 15 dny +1

      @@ShimiHalperin Yes I am fine. I like Andrew but I get the sense that he doesn't really understand what people in the real world deal with in actual home studios where we can't drop 11k on acoustic treatment, 20-30k on a consoles, 10k I think on the recent monitor purchase et al. The endless vids on pro rooms being passed off as "home studios" seems to be skewing the idea of what a home studio is. Those are PRO rooms that happen to be in a house. He has been in pro studios for a long time and his personal Shangri la has been more than pro for some time now. That's not the world the vast majority of us live in.
      His information on windows remote desktop being slow, inaccurate etc without any reference to what he has used is not helpful. I have used it for years in my studio and also professionally to manage data centers. Its not slow. As for accurate, I also disagree but even it were true, how accurate does it need to be when you are performing and just need to press record and stop? He is just getting further and further away from my world and when the information starts getting unreliable too I am not sure this channel is for me anymore.

    • @itsstudiotime
      @itsstudiotime  Před 15 dny +2

      Hey @audiowonderland thanks for watching the videos even though you seem to be upset about them. I make videos on stuff that I'm interested in, not on what I think one specific group of people can afford. This is a creative and passion job for me. I really enjoy making these videos. If I impose some limitation on every video asking, can "most" home studio users afford this? I would not enjoy this. I'm interested in the craft of recording, the workflow, the process, the equipment, the techniques and sharing the stuff that I think is cool. You do not have to click on these videos if they're making you upset. I appreciate that you've subscribed and that you do watch. There must be a reason that you have chosen to do that. The content that I watch is content on topics that inspire me or covers situations that I can aspire to. That's what i'm here to do - price be damned. Sometimes I cover a channel from warm audio, sometimes it's an $11,000 pair of studio monitors, other times it's answering a question in nearly every damn video about how i set up my second rig.
      I spent the majority of my recording career with very little of my own recording equipment. Only when I started diversifying my income between recording and this business - did I start to be able to get my hands on the gear I've always been interested in. Now that I can get access to stuff I think is fascinating and solves problems for me, I make content on it - because I enjoy it. If you're going to do something - you should do it because you enjoy it, not because a few people online say it's not what they want.
      PS I've never used windows remote anything, and didn't say that. I said years ago, I used my old macbook to remote control my old computer. It was not super responsive and the workflow was not as easy as what I'm doing now. Don't get so worried about a video someone shares, if you think you can offer something of value, start your own channel and put up better videos. I've helped a lot of friends get into it and some of them have become far more successful than me - very fast.
