- It's This Old Outboard. 87 Johnson 40hp 2 years later... The guy that bought the Johnson 40 hp outboard finally got his boat ready (legal) and asked me for help tweaking it in. I thought it would be a breeze but it turned out to be One of Those Days. Follow the Real Life Saga of This Old Outboard and get your Subscription Today ! You Never Know What's Gonna Happen Next ! You figured it out……….Cool story on the boats past life.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
Seen the clip of that boat on CZcams I think thats the same boat Randy Quaid was shooting from,LOLL!
Haha! Thanks again !
Giving meaning to your "Real life saga" motto here ! And yes, I guess the impeller, if not ruined, has been seriously damaged. We have all been there done that so may the one that has never sinned throw you the first wrench. Ha, ha !
Hahaha! Thanks again !
He should rename the boat the “Hard Pain”
Good video…👍
Hahaha. Thanks again !
That ole boy was a hoot
Hahaha! Thanks again !
Wow, that was a crazy video. I was hoping you would check the kill switch. That was scary when it fired up at half throttle. Hope the impeller survived that?
Hahaha yeah blew my eardrums out! Thanks again !
Hey TOO! Question for ya. On those Johnson covers do you replace the foam or just remove? I know you have a video on reconditioning the cover. Just can’t locate it. Thanks!
Hey. You can replace it if you want but I think most people just take it out and leave it out. I think it just helps with dampening the sound. So it's up to you! Thanks again !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 sorry, one more question. Is there a way to recondition the gasket or is it just a replace?
@@Captain_Brian well, theres been a bunch of different ideas and things to use but I've never really come across anything that worked that great. Automotive door trim comes to mind as one of them and I've looked at everything in home depot and nothing really worked. I did use black silicon once, thats probably the video your thinking of and it worked pretty good only because the old gasket was just cracked and chipped. So I just basically filled in the bad spots. Check craigslist, offerup and facebook marketplace, somebody may be selling an old hood with a good gasket you can use or check ebay you may find a nice replacement hood and/or a gasket there. let me know if you find something that works!
wow i just checked ebay and they're selling the gasket there. cheap too. I've never seen that before !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 thanks! I appreciate the suggestions!
Hello, do you sell the outboards you fix? do you have a store name?
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yes & no. No store, just local. Are you looking for something. Thanks again !
U getting these out a day early? Could have sworn this was my Saturday am cartoons
Hey. Yeah no point in waiting an extra day. Thanks again !
Get new switch and connector, solder the wires heat shrink ! Those single butt connectors into switch always have problems!! Ask me how I know😵💫
Hahaha. Next time. Thanks again !
Nothing is ever straight forward and easy, loose bolts and bad parts. Whenever somebody has worked on something before you, gremlins appear! You might want to check your blood pressure after that motor took off!😂
Hahaha and my eardrums! Thanks again !
why not just disconnect the black/yellow at the pack if its the key switch?
Come On Man. Keypoint in the video......... Because they recently swapped the key switch- my brain says check the wiring at the switch- Key switch hanging out- Pull the B/Y wire off- Boom Got Spark! Why on earth would I go back and pull the wire off the pack??? Man! Thanks for tuning in.
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 i guess i wasnt paying attention enough my fault! cheers buddy.
@@ct1762 cheers!
