    Surprising how few GMC Terrains I see around town. The AT4 trim package may be just the magic to make the Terrain visible to buyers. Nice "soft-road" trail review, TK!

    GMC advertises the ground clearance on the AT4 as 7.9”. Those tires loaded up pretty quickly in the mud. I have a 2020 Terrain SLT with the 2.0 litre turbo and its got 252 horsepower and has very decent acceleration and reasonably good fuel economy (7.7 L/100kms) which I think is good. I don’t take mine anywhere close to off road. Generally speaking, I like my car.

    A skid plate is one of the most important upgrades for any vehicle going off pavement, so that’s a nice touch. Gotta keep that oil pan away from rocks. Other than that, I don’t see much to get excited about. I don’t think too many buyers in this segment have “excitement” high on their list though.

    I think it's a pretty decent vehicle. I'm considering getting one in the coming year. I have no plans on doing any off roading, but for a guy like me who goes out camping a lot, hitting the beach and plans on getting a big dog very soon, I think this GMC would fit my lifestyle. Great video lads.

      Same. It looks decent. I have a jeep for when I go off road. I need something under 60k with three rows and some extra room for a bigger dog and camping or beach stuff. And everything in this segment looks like a Highlander.

    I had the opportunity of renting one for a week in British Columbia a couple of weeks ago. We lived with it for a week. Drove all through Vancouver, Mission, Richmond, Burnaby, Squamish, and Whistler. It was a mountain and Trail climbing trip. We got the vehicle by mistake from the rental company as they did not have any smaller Vehicles available. Rental cars are hard to come by out west. We are from Ontario. My wife's family are GM retirees. I've never bought a GM product in my life. I have to say, after spending a week with that little truck it grew on me. Nice style, easy to get in and out of, very comfortable on the highway and handled a little bit of gear without complaints. Fuel economy was decent. I think people buy these trucks as an alternative to buying CRV and RAVs. It's like buying a used Tacoma pickup. After some price gouging you might as well buy a new one. The Market's a funny place. One could buy a new terrain for the price of a two or three-year-old Honda or Toyota. Have fresh warranty from the get-go, a stylish vehicle to drive around in with some good features. Sure it might be a tad less on the refinement, and there could be better cute utes that can handle a little bit more Trail activity, but let's be real here. People buy them for status symbols and not truly use them for their potential. Those folks end up buying something completely different and we all know what those are. Let's not be too hard on the terrain. General Motors is closing the gap. That's a step in the right direction.

    • @ojayski
      @ojayski Před 11 měsíci

      Rav4 and terrain are the same price for the base model. Terrain has heavier doors and it is beefier than the rav4. Rav4 has a naturally aspirated engine which will in fact last longer than GMs little turbo engine before it fails. Rav4 is lighter and more mechanically simplistic than the terrain. This is all coming from a GM lover, they crapped the bed with making these have a forced induction, turbo charged engine. The engine choice GM went with on these will be a catastrophe when these cars are 10years old on the used lot with 100k miles and poor service history.

    GM seriously dropped the ball on the blazer/Jimmy. They knew what Ford was bringing out in the new bronco. And instead of trying to compete, they made yet another grocery getter that the world did not need. No automaker disrespects their own brands like GM does. I grew up going hunting in an old blazer, and that thing could go anywhere. The old jimmies were just as capable. Even the slightly more recent blazer ZR2 was a decently capable off-roader. They could make up for it though, if they just wised up and offered up a new blazer ZR2 and/or Jimmy at4x package(s) with full capability and specks as the Colorado ZR2. Hell do the same for the 'burban/Yukon while they're at it.

      Yeah I get what you are saying but the market for crossovers is high demand understand that they is more money in the so called grocery getters. Let’s be honest a family four would be looking for a Chevy traverse, blazer or equinox over a ford bronco. Gas mileage, way more space and obviously more road friendly than a bronco in that sense. If you are looking for looks than a ford bronco is the way but if you are looking for comfort then you go the other route.

    • @Qmocean
      @Qmocean Před 2 měsíci +1

      @alfredorivera3454 with the traverse and equinox they have 2 badges for smaller SUVs. Plus the trailblazer for midsize crowd. They really should have given the blazer back to its off-road roots. Same with the Jimmy. They could also make a ZR2 version of one of the compact SUVs too. They had a Tracker ZR2 back in the day. The chatter in ZR2 groups about the possibility of blazer ZR2 return says there would definitely be a market for it. Us Chevy guys that off-road only have the colorado n Silverado as options. I love my colorado ZR2 but would trade it in in a heartbeat for blazer.

    • @backwoodstherapy
      @backwoodstherapy Před 2 lety +2

      My 2016 Terrain had 180 HP with it's 2.4L 4 cyl engine. Weighed about 3850 lbs and was very slow. Going from that to a Jeep JL Unlimited Sport S with 285 HP and 270 ft lbs of torque was shocking - even at 400 LB heavier, that extra HP/Torque makes so much of a difference.
      This engine is a turbo so it has over 200 lbs of torque and is a couple hundred pounds lighter, so it's probably got *just* enough HP to feel adequate on the freeway.

    Even with the larger motor from the past, the GMC equinox has always been an inferior CUV to the rav4, CRV, CX5.
    The main reasons people would buy them was out of ignorance or the huge year end discounts/0% financing that used to happen.

    I liked the look of the first generation Terrain more than this one. I think this vehicle just looks boring and has no features that stand out, not to mention a tiny engine. They call it the Terrain but it's probably best on asphalt. Too many manufacturers adding "off road" badges and trims but not really any off road upgrades.

      @@marcelo403polo2 a bigger engine is always great but if you could just increase the horse power without breaking it then a smaller engine would be fine. But in this case it's just too low to the ground with tires that don't grip for off road
