    FYI. Spring onions are referred to as shallots in Australia. The shallots referred to in US are known as eshallots in Australia

      @LazyDaisyDay88 Před 2 lety +14

      I think the Americans call them scallions

      I would a smoke turkey do instead of ham, some smoke turkey taste like ham when it's fried?' Hickory I think taste more like ham when fried?

    • @a2ndopynyn
      @a2ndopynyn Před 2 lety +5

      What you used are indeed called scallions in America; sometimes also called Green Onions, hence the name of the Memphis classic: czcams.com/video/0oox9bJaGJ8/video.html
      Also, I think some finely chopped smoked pulled pork shoulder would go better here than the turkey. For the amount made in this recipe, I think between 1/4 to 1/2 lb of shoulder, depending on how meaty you like your fried rice. Forego the ham steak and use 1/2 lb shoulder, or keep it and use 1/4 lb. Either way, I'd add it before the rice so it can flavor the oil. Good video; I've got a few different fried rice videos bookmarked and I'll pick the ideas from each one I like the best when I do finally give it a try. Thanks for posting!

      Spring onions , are what we call spring onions in Australia ! And shallots are called shallots , dont know where you heard that crap from !

    • @HenrysHowTos
      @HenrysHowTos  Před 2 lety +6

      @@herbetrono4373 actually, shallots are single stems where as spring onions have the white bulb. A simple visit to coles or woolies and you’ll see the difference, in the food service industry they are completely different

    What a great easy dish to make when you have all the ingredients. I am so glad that you have mentioned the Basmatti Rice as the kind of rice to be used for this dish, because any other rice make the dish too sticky and soft.
    And...some sauted onion with some diced garlic and ginger with the meet make a big difference in taste.
    I have also learned by experience not to add any salt until the very end after adding the soy sauce, if it needs it.

    In Ecuador (chaulafan) and in Peru (chaufa), they prepare this but they also add chopped pork, chicken and beef, in small pieces, just like the ham ones. If you prefer, they also add some small shrimp. And yes, sesame oil is added too. I love this rice, I can easily say is one of my favorites. 👍

      The rest is the same. It tales less work if you have day old rice.
      This can be gluten free if you use gluten free soy sauce and use sesame for part to all oil and sprinkle sesame seeds dusted on top.

    Thank you. Came out very nice. Just a tip for anyone viewing these comments. To cook Indian Basmati rice, 1) wash and drain a couple of times. 2) Soak in water for 25 min or up to an hour and drain. 3) For each cup of raw rice, add 2 cups of cold water. Add salt, bring to a boil, lower the heat, partially cover with a lid and let simmer for 12 min. The rice will be cooked and ready to serve. No water will be left to drain. 4) Either transfer into a serving dish immediately, or lightly fluff up with a fork to prevent the rice at the bottom from sticking and lumping under the weight of the rice above it.

    One of my FAVORITE foods... fried rice. I like to go into a Chinese restaurant and order the house special fried rice. When I was in the navy, this was a favorite of mine before a night of beer with shipmates at whatever bar. :)
