  • Hong Taiji, the young Jurchen Khan of Later Jin, followed the steps of his father Nurhaci. He created the Manchu culture and founding of the Qing Dynasty, and launched the manchu invasion of China and manchu invasion of Joseon. In this Hong Taiji documentary, I explain the feats of the first Qing Emperor.

    Yuan Chonghuan last words before execution:
    "A life's work always ends up in vain; half of my career seems to be in dreams. I do not worry about lacking brave warriors after my death, for my loyal spirit will continue to guard Liaodong." (一生事業總成空,半世功名在夢中。死後不愁無將勇,忠魂依舊保遼東!)

    The Ming had one man who could potentially repel or at least severely delay the Manchu invasion, yet they decided to execute him by a torturous and humiliating death. Well done!
    Although this is a video dedicated to Huang Taiji, I still want to honor this one man (yes one man, Wu Sangui not counted haha) who would very well be the Ming Dynasty's last hope against the Manchus.

      @therearenoshortcuts9868 Před 3 lety +10

      only "similar" if viewed from a high level
      we actually don't have as much records from Yue Fei's time as to why he was killed - it is possible that he was more of a propaganda figure put up by Gaozong's heir who's in the pro-war camp
      Yuan Chonghuan on the other hand... lied his ass off to the emperor about how he will finish off the Manchus in just 5 years
      he then executed the key Ming general Mao wenlong to appease Hong Taji in an attempt to open peace negotiations
      but once Mao was killed, the Manchus immediately started raiding the area around Beijing as Mao was no longer a threat in their back (Mao was a threat to Manchu lands from his island base near Korea).
      so instead of "finishing" the Manchus in just 5 years, he tried to appease the Manchus, and set off a chain reaction that saw Beijing get directly raided by the Manchus for the first time in history
      if i were the emperor i'd be pissed too...

    Very informative. However, it should be noted that Hong Taiji was personally not known as Abahai. It is now considered a mistake by Western scholars who had used this personal name for him. Hong Taiji has never been known as Abahai in Manchu and Chinese sources. There are many views on why over the years, it was likely misunderstood that his name was Abahai, i.e. his era name in Manchu language was Abkai or that it was a mistake from the confusion of his name with Lady Abahai (Nurhaci's consort).

    @jeffyoung60 Před rokem +1

    The Ming Dynasty had already been in stagnation and then entered its terminal decline by the time the Manchurian tribes united under Nurhachi and began challenging Ming China.
    The Ming Chinese were their worst enemy. Typical of Han Chinese dynasties, the Ming began its existence in a blaze of battlefield glory. The Ming consolidated their power China rose once again to great heights of political, economic, military, scientific, agricultural, the humanity arts, social achievements, and international prestige. Then Ming China entered its period of stagnation. The period of stagnation is usually divided between the initial period of benign stagnation to the later period of harmful stagnation. Then Ming China began its inexorable decline, politically, economically, militarily and for similar reasons of previous dynasties. The government became polarized and factionalized into two competing factions, East Bureau versus West Bureau. Nothing could be reformed or accomplished. Each side accused the other's reformers of corruption, malfeasance, and lack of patriotism. Corrupt men accused good men of corruption and got away with it.
    Contributing to China's woes was the period of the, "Little Ice Age", which affected global weather detrimentally. China was beset with alternating droughts then floods interspaced with numerous bad weather cyclones, called, sky dragons. Grasshopper plagues ruined crops. Famine and poverty spread through China and the paralyzed government proved inefficient. In the past, strong emperors could force through reforms and circumvent inefficient and corrupt officials. But Ming China suffered weak emperors in its decline, men either too young and inexperienced or else controlled by the powerful eunuchs or dowager empresses.
    Ming China had plenty of time to reform and reorganize and recover its economy, but the government was firmly paralyzed by political in-fighting. Worse, Neo-Confucianism was being corrupted and misapplied to justify the status quo and rejection of any reforms as unethical and immoral, complete opposites of what Neo-Confucianism intended. Government officials widely articulated false moralistic arguments to justify rejection of reforms. Neither side could countenance any reforms championed by the other, which might improve its political position and power.
    As Ming China fossilized, there emerged a new, united, energetic, dynamic, and virile northern Asian tribal empire, the Manchurian Qing. The Qing were far superior warriors against the inept Ming Army, now composed of the lowest social class of men with the lack of morale and esprit de corps and lack of ethical military officers and all that entails. Mercenaries made up the rest of the Ming military.
    As the Manchus solidified their nascent empire under Nurhachi's successor, the Ming proved totally unable to deal with the growing threat north of the Great Wall. Ming China was on borrowed time which ran out in 1644 A.D.

      @user-up3dd1vw6b Před 3 lety +1

      But I'd say chongzen emperor was probably much more competent than seonjo which was one of worst Korea rulers.
      Chongzen emperor was very hard working but his critical flaw was he was too paranoid and never trusted his competent generals.
      The deathblow to ming China was battle of Songshan in 1642, which was direct result of emperor not trusting his general at the scene of battle and instead gave his own order while a thousand mile away from battlefield. Ming lost their last army of 100,000 men, and the top ming general Hong chengchou surrendered to Qing. In this battle Ming squandered pretty much the last army they had to suppress peasant rebellion and it fell to Li Zicheng 2 years later.

    I've seen recent stuff saying that Huang Taiji's name wasn't actually Abahai, and that was a mistranslation or mishearing of his era name. Furthermore, one of Nurhaci's wives had the name Abahai, but she was not Huang Taiji's mother, from what I have read. Though to be fair, this video is from 4 years ago. I do like it though. After the Han, the Qing were always my favorite and my fall back area of study.

    Very appreciated for your video and presentation. But I want to point one thing out. Like too many historical videos or writings, most people deviated from the authentic history when they defined most history into "Chinese". Example, the Ming is defined into Chinese and the Later yuan is defined into Manchu. Others redefined Later Yuan into Later Jin. It was the Ming that fought the Manchu...not the Chinese that fought the Manchu. Technically, the term Chinese was not used until Qing Dynasty and referring to Qing, not Ming.

      @@Mrs.miriam So, their people who previously came back down to rule China from 16th kingdoms to Tang to Jin Dynasty were all barbarians? These were the same people who just happened to immigrate back towards a later time. Those defining history into "Chinese" really deviate from the authenticity of history in Northern Asia. E.g. Xianbei, Mo Khitan, Mong XiongNu, Mong Jursen/Jurchen, Mong Shiwei were of the same nation. They just happened to immigrated back into the Yellow River Basin during different periods. Those that came first were defined into Chinese and those came later are barbarians?
      Something for everyone to think about. When does the term "Chinese" in English first used? When is the term "Hanzu" (not Han) literary means Han ethnic first used in history?
