- Triple Play 2000 is a baseball sports game released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. It is the only game of the Triple Play series released for the Nintendo 64 where it was only released in North America. It features the 1999 rosters and 1998 stats which included Sammy Sosa's 66 HR and Mark McGwire's 70 home runs.

Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest is hands down the best baseball game on the N64.
*_Famista 64_* (a Japanese release) looks like the best to me.
@@nikolaikalashnikov4253 Nice joke.
“Sorry boss, I’m going to be late for work. Glenn just uploaded a video about a sport I’m not a fan of on a console I never owned. Yes, it is an emergency.”
You know a channel is good when you don’t care what the creator posts, you watch it and love it!
I played this game more than I should’ve as a kid 😂
Way more! 😂
I'm starting to realize I may have had bad taste in game rentals haha
I remember renting this many, many times as a kid. My pops never let me buy sports games because he said the only difference between this years edition and next years were the rosters. The graphics advances didn't matter to him. I wonder what he'd think of the state of sports games in 2022 lol. He'd probably spend far too much time online calling people "dumbass knuckleheads" for buying a Madden game in this millennium...
Did you never own any sports games, or would he at least allow you to own the older titles that were being sold for $8 and under?
For example, I bought Troy Aikman football from 1994 in 1996 and I got Madden 96 in 1998.
It was my friend who owned NFL 2K (1999) on his Dreamcast, and we played that for two years until 2k2 came out. My first NEW sports game of my own was Madden 04 (2003), and then ESPN NFL 2K5 the next year. Despite that, I knew it was foolish to just buy the new game each year.
This was my first baseball game as a kid. I was 6. N64 was my first console. This game was so hard for me the first time I ever scored and lead 1-0 in a game I immediately started bunting to get out and get on to the next frame to try and get 3 outs and “win” only to find out there were 8 more innings 😂 I had no concept of how long a baseball game was yet
Wow, over a decade, hard to believe I've been enjoying your videos for so many years! Your passion for the N64 reminded me of why I enjoyed playing the console as a kid. Though I can't remember exactly, I think the first video I saw of yours was Turok and Turok 2, h nice why I got every Turok game for the N64. Here's to another decade! 🥂
I find the only sports titles that have held up well are extreme sports like snow boarding, skate boarding, BMX etc. But there may be some exceptions.
I agree, and a big reason has to do with the core game play experience. For example, Techmo Bowl offers a very different and unique American football 🏈 experience compared to modern versions of the sport, which is why it retains fans to this day. Meanwhile, nobody is clamoring to play SNES, N64 or PS1 versions of Madden or other football games.
Ironically, the more simulation a game wants to be, the less it holds up over time. This is because better simulations come out each year and make older titles obsolete and unplayable by comparison.
Arcade sports games like NBA JAM and Wayne Gretzky Hockey i can easy pickup and play. Its mostly more simulation style sports games which dont really stand the test of time.
All I remember of this game is that I found it cheap and bought it for my friend for his birthday.
Releasing a weird version of the last year sports game instead of the actual new entry is the same thing they did with the only Fifa game they released on Wii U (Fifa 13).
And they still do now calling it “legacy editions” on switch
They do that with all platforms that aren't their main moneymakers. Vita, Wii U , Switch, 3DS etc. If you aren't a main MS or PS platform, then it's best to ignore EA sports games in general(first entries may be okay, but they're gonna be rough, all legacy after that tho). YMMV with PC.
@@ruekurei88 Legacy Editions are just literally the same game. Fifa 13 for Wii U did get some changes from Fifa 12, but it still wasn't Fifa 13-
Oddly enough I preferred fifa 13 on Wii U over the PS3 version lol but yeah it was clearly FIFA 12 with lots of frame drops and lacking features and modes.
This game gave me the best feeling when hitting a home run. I was the perfect age where I love having crazy amazing stats and this game was awesome!
That's awesome!
My first thought was: 'is that the Championship Manager 01/02 Futuristic typeface in the menus?'
What a sad individual I am. 😄
This is the baseball game I played as a kid (next to Bases Loaded on GB). And while it didn't age as gracefully as I remember, the audio and sound are amazing and you can notice small touches like: whistles and cadences from the fans and warnings from the ballpark PA.
I always liked all star baseball 2000/2001 as a kid.
Triple Play 2000 is a god-damned work of art on PSone when you compare it to the DUMPSTER FIRE on N64! I should know as I have had both versions since '99! in fact, it was so bad that my older brother imported Konami's Powerful Pro Yakyuu baseball game from Japan, although we couldn't navigate the menus as they were all in kanji but we still had fun playing it... the same cannot be said for Triple Play 2000 on N64.
I’ll have to look that Japanese baseball game up
Baseball game rule of thumb: if Ken Griffey Jr isn't in the name, stay away!
I have the playstation version of this title. Played it like crazy when it was the newest title. On occasion, I'll still pop it in and play a short game, always enjoyed the various sound effects. Played the n64 version when I rented it from blockbuster video. The playstation version is the better version. For baseball on the n64, All-Star Baseball is the best for simulation style. Ken Griffey jr. is probably the best arcade style.
Do you have a complete N64 game collection Glenn?
I’ve owned every game at some point, I don’t collect anymore
Maybe a review of all-star baseball 2000 some day please
This year for sure
lol I forgot how sudden the snaps were between different animations. The animations themselves are really good - if only they had bothered to transition between them properly.
All Star Baseball games on N64 look like they are running different console than this. In fact, this game here is seems closer to Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest for SNES that RARE developed.
I’ve Always loved mlb baseball ft ken Griffey jr, I’ll stick to that game
Same here, Slugfest is the best.
Good video.
How many more of the NA 296 games do you lack for your reviews?
Namco has a good japan only baseball game on the 64.
Come to think of it, I think it would be really cool if you were on Did You Know Gaming talking about the N64, you have the perfect voice for it.
Have not seen this before but I have seen the n64 NFL games before
I much prefer that to mlb
@@n64glennplant I hear you there
I appreciate the fact that you cover these Baseball games even though you admit you're not a fan of the sport.
😄 He said he really enjoyed it around 1:14 in the video
I wouldn’t worry man baseball has been dropping in popularity over here in the states
Nothing can beat Baseball for NES 🤣
Have you played any of the Super Mega Baseball series Glenn? Amazingly fun and addicting Arcade style baseball. Highly recommended!!!
All-star baseball ‘99 is pretty solid. I also enjoyed famista 64 if you want to go the import route.
I this game did miss a HUGE opportunity to make a name for itself as well. I only have the two baseball titles that were released in PAL version and found that both of them were extremely satisfying to play. Also, apart from soccer games on N64, what other sports games were your favourite to play?
The main problem is..... its baseball.
I don’t know why EA stopped doing baseball games. I feel like MLB The Show needs some competition. The Show has so many issues that should have been fixed by now, but they are not because it’s the only AAA baseball game in the market so people will buy it anyways…
Haha did you ever hear about the wrestler stevie Richards winning that million dollar contest that “the show” had and then refusing to pay out the contest money to him? 😂
@@n64glennplant lmao unbelievable. And they have so much money now.
I think they have exclusive rights to team names/logos and players. Kinda like what EA did for football and soccer.
How many games have you got left to review, Glenn?
The only baseball game I enjoyed was batting center in Yakuza Kiwami I'm afraid.
Dude nice to see McDonald’s named a burger after you huh . 👍🍔
I'm embarrassed to admit that I still don't completely understand the rules of baseball, lol. It seems somewhat more complex than soccer's or tennis rules, and more of a slower paced game overall. Maybe I'll look into them sometime. On another note, why did the poor old N64 often got some of the crappiest ports? This game Triple Play 2000, but also the Quake games, Superman 64 (although the PS1 version was never released, it was recently leaked), and even the renowned Resident Evil 2 port didn't come without it's own cuts.
imagine Mario Baseball 64! maybe someday... (???, nostalgic hope is my talent haha)
Sounds like great.
How about Metroid Other M 64?
It should've been the Metroid game for the N64.
So which game is worse, Triple Play or Mike Piazza Baseball?
I have this mlb game and it is pretty tough and hard to play. Much easier mlb game on n64 is Major League Baseball featuring ken Griffey jr.
Not a huge fan of baseball either and agree this game is pretty middle of the road. Has some good aspects like the sound and animation but as far as gameplay goes I would rather play Bottom of the 9th, All-Star or Ken Griffey.
What game is glenn reviewing today?
Oh an N64 baseball game....ok.
17 games to go now
@@n64glennplant
Lol oh is that all?
I'm not much of a sports video game fan.

This is to me the worst baseball game ever
I think this is the worst n64 game ever
