    We have CX5 GT (Canada) and CX30 GS , CX30 has better driving dynamics , gets to speed quicker , some features and cabin elements are nicely updated in CX30 , CX5 has higher sitting position. very comfortable and amazingly quiet and obviously great handling and all that. CX30 cons are small gas tank, small cabin , Passenger seat is very low. All Mazda I think have one common cons and it is 6 speed transmission, it is smooth and relatively quick however it miss at least 2 gears . overall both are great purchase in their segment. Mazda products are absolutely premium and are not in the segment of Hondas or Toyotas .

    I recently had to have my car towed (VW New Beetle) and while talking to the tow driver he said he couldn't remember the last time he towed a Mazda. That clinched it it for me! Within a month I got a 2024 Mazda cx5 turbo signature. Old school? Yes, and I'm extra happy for it!! Oil dip stick: check! Spare tire: check, individual controls for HVAC (not touch screen!): check! etc. There's a reason it's still there and not discontinued!

    One thing overlooked here is the fuel tank size, unless I missed it. The CX-5 has a 15.3 gallon tank while the CX-30 only has a 12.7 gallon tank. 413 vs 381 mile highway range assuming the epa ratings are accurate. If it weren't for that, I personally probably favor the cx-30 if I didn't need the space of the cx-5.

    I have a 2020 CX-30 with about 89,000 miles on it. Aside from the usual oil, filter, and tire rotations, I've had no other expenses, and there's never been a single problem with it. I get about 34 mpg and do mostly highway driving. I had previously been a Honda person, but Mazda was one of the few automakers that had not gone to the CVT. Mine is the front wheel drive (I have no need for all-wheel), the "Select" model. The performance is fantastic, and I've never been in a situation where it disappointed me. If I were to buy a new one, I might move up to the CX-5, although I don't need anything larger. I would never go with the turbo, simply because the base model engine has all the performance a person could want, and the turbo would not last as long as just the regular 4-cylinder.

  • @glurp1er
    @glurp1er Před 4 měsíci +10

    Not only is the CX-5 more expensive at purchase, it's also more expensive to use (fuel consumption) and to keep (more weight/CO2 = higher taxes in a lot of places).
    For me the CX-30 was the perfect middle ground between the Mazda 3 and the CX-5.

    The Mazda CX-30 is highly underrated and overlooked for its small interior; otherwise it is exactly the same as the CX-5 as far as driving dynamics, engine, and comfort; except for interior size and price. I've test driven both, and honestly I felt that the driving dynamics are quite similar between both. Thanks for an interesting comparison. Back in 2018, I owned a 2007 Mazda 6i liftback and my wife had a 2015 CX-5 GT. I wanted to get a Mazda CUV and sit a little higher. I was hoping Mazda would bring the CX-4 from China to the USA, I'd trade my 6 for it. However, when the 2019 CX-5 Signature, w/ the turbo, came out , I traded my 6 for it. If the CX-30 was available then I might have bought it. Now, I'm happy that glad I choose the larger CX-5 Signature now. I really wish however the terra cotta leather and/or 2 tone interior trim was available in more models, or the dark brown leather in the CX-5 Signature was a lighter shade of brown. Thanks, again.

    I will consider a Mazda when they start offering hybrids in addition to ICE. Also, always think on your comparisons, you have a very conventional US/Midwest attitude of larger or more powerful is better and award points. That, to me, is a very personal preference and should be pointed out, but, many people would add points for smaller, better fuel economy cars than the larger ones. Do enjoy your reviews!

    Sorry, many of the features you consider advantages, or disadvantages, are a matter of taste or frivolourls. Examples include the cladding on the CX- 30. and the absence of towing and seating ventilation. We chose our CX-30 precisely because of the contrasted cladding, which we found far more attractive. Our CX-30 is the 2023 model and we do have folding mirrors and HUD display as well as many of the other options on the CX -5. I should note rgat we are in Europe, Belgium to be precise. As for the towing and seating ventilation, we do not need or want either of these features. So it is really a question of personal preference and taste.

Much less than the new 2024s which go for about 39,500 and the only thing you lose is the touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple Carplay and you need to be wired to use the technology. It is a very capable and high build quality car, though. CX-30 is designed for a different market segment - singles and couples. And this segment loves this car and will give 5/5 in reviews. Hence, don’t be fooled by the reviews as they don’t tell which market segment rated that. So, if you try to fit in more than two people in this CX-30, don’t bother, just move on to CX-5 or newer (and expensive 😉) CX-60.

    Mazda needs to up their game on the infotainment displays, they are looking outdated now and so much smaller compared to other cars not to mention out of reach! I wish they would do at least a 13+ inch display instead of a little rectangle screen.

    • @glurp1er
      @glurp1er Před 4 měsíci +6

      What do you need a huge screen for?
      The "little screen" is already enough to simultaneous display 2 apps with Android auto.
      Anyway, keep your eyes on the road ;-)

    if you are over 6 feet tall then your head will touch the roof of cx-30 in the driver seat, thats with the seat all the way down, dont even bother considering it, i have no idea what they were thinking of selling that vehicle in US market, maybe it works in Japan but not here.

      So I am 6’3 and I fit comfortably in the driver seat and my head doesn’t touch the roof. I am in Canada but I would assume the U.S.A. Is the same.

      With the seat all the way down, you'd need to be at least 7 feet to touch the roof of cx-30.

      More like Mazda 3 and CX-30.
      I tested both. The Mazda 3 is the better car, but if you have a family and/or need a usable trunk then the CX-30 is better.
      I got the CX-30 for those reasons.
