  • I have been battling a very aggressive 1-2 shift after having my transmission rebuilt. The car drives and performs perfect otherwise, I just really don’t like the 1-2 shift. After doing my own research I found this part by SONNAX and it cured my shifting issues. I believe this also applies for other transmissions as well: 200-4R, 4L60, 4L60-E, 4L65-E, 4L70-E
    Sonnax 77998-03K Transmission Kit, 1-2 OR 3-4 Accumulator Piston (.310" Pin)

    - PER SELLER ON EBAY -
    Symptoms:
    Poor shift quality
    Burnt clutches & bands
    Cause:
    Wear at the piston pin bore due to repeated reciprocation.
    Correction:
    The Sonnax patented pinless design with dual seals stabilizes the piston in the bore and provides improved sealing characteristics. Use of the Sonnax part eliminates the need for the pins.

    Great vid. You couldn’t be more right. I’m so tired of taking my vehicles to mechanics and the bs I have to deal with , when I’m paying them, sometimes its like they think they’re doing me a favour. Like I often say to my wife, I can fix it or fuck it up on my own, I don’t need to pay someone to fuck things up for me… I found the video, cause my 4l60 is having some issues, and it’s all I can do to get my mechanic to change the filter. They spent 4000$ on a “fluid change machine “, and tell me you don’t need to change filters…pfffft.

    hi, I saw this was a Technical Service Bulletin from GMC. I don't know if this applies to your vehicle and transmission, or not?
    TSB 01-07-30-023B - Harsh 1-2 upshift with P1870 DTC - 4L60E Transmission RPO M30
    1996 Buick Roadmaster - 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood - 1999-2000 Cadillac Escalade - 1996-2000 Chevrolet Camaro - 1996-2000 Corvette - 1996-2000 Pontiac Firebird - 1996-2000 Chevrolet and GMC Light Duty Truck Models - 1996-2000 Oldsmobile Bravada
    Problem - Drivers may experience an unusually harsh 1-2 shift because the ECU has commanded maximum line pressure in order to compensate for excessive wear in the bore that contains the TCC isolator and regulator valves inside of the valve body.
    Solution - Replace the 4L60E valve body with revised TCC regulator and isolator valves.

    In reference to the stock OEM pistons. They all break or wear on the pin eventually. Pin wear is more on the metal pistons.
    Changing the springs really doesn’t help a lot. Most builders, such as myself, have learned to just replace the pistons. Because of this.
    Also, just fyi. There is another accumulator in the valve body. When it doesn’t move freely, it will also cause the same problem.
    Pinless is a good upgrade. But if you still have a hard shift. It’s in the valve body.
    Edit. Some of the newer 4L60E transmissions, only have the one small spring inside the accumulator. Don’t add another spring. It will cause problems. Unless you have installed a shift kit with the replacement.

    At the 20 minute mark, you put your foot down & the fuel level dropped, so there's your next mission to fix.

      Thanks for watching! Yeah, it’s the stock tank. No baffle, but I swapped the sending unit to run EFI. I keep the gas level 1/4 or higher at all times and performs fine for daily street driving.

    You ever consider upgrading to a 4l80?

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  Před 3 lety +1

      When I rebuilt this one I took in my 4l80 to get rebuilt and I was gonna swap it. However, we decided to just rebuild this one up to standards with my current build, goals and driving. Then just used the 4l80 as a back up for my 6.0 that’s in my Chevelle.

    I have the same problem. Just had my 2000 Silverado transmission rebuilt and 1 to 2 is a firm shift. Do you think this will fix it?

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  Před 2 lety +1

      I think it could, but not 100% if it will work for every application. Mine ended up not actually totally going away, but it did soften it up some. Regardless, it’s an upgrade that’s cheap and doesn’t hurt the performance if it doesn’t end up working.

    So you indent the metal not the ball?

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  Před 2 lety

      Correct! You put the ball in first and then you indent / crosshatch punch the top of it so the ball will not pop out
