    I finally found a good video, that not only is for the same way I want to do my 4L60e rebuild! I gotta give this man the credit, and cant thank him enough! He not only covers the parts for this application of a 4L60e rebuild, but he is also very descriptive on how and why you wanna do it with the best intention and thoroughly cleaning your tranny as well as keeping everything in place! Keep making them videos, and god bless you man!

    I need to swap out my transmission in my 1988 Corvette I heard that a 700r4 will work I just wanted to see if anyone knows anything about that? Because the transmission in my car is not a 700r4 I think it's a 4L60 maybe. But anyway will that work do I need other parts to make it work or will my old parts works I think I heard it might need a longer drive shaft or something. I'm not sure can anyone help? I tried googling it but the information sounded kind of vague to me like there might be a bunch of extra work involved.

    Shouldn't you have used a different spring @20:08 being that you installed a corvette servo? the 553 was the stock piston.

    • @VeryGoodGarage
      @VeryGoodGarage  Před 3 lety

      The corvette servo didn't match any numbers on the shift kit instructions, so we went with the stuck numbers instead. Main reasoning is that, we don't know why the different pistons require different springs, but if it has something to do with a factor outside the servo, then it would be best to stick with what marched stock.

      @@VeryGoodGarage I think that spring firms up the band engagement kinda like what the 1-2 accumulator piston spring does thats why they have you drill it out to use their pin so if you want to change firmness of your 2-3 shift you dont have to drop the valve body to change the spring.

    • @martinez1701a
      @martinez1701a Před 3 lety +3

      The 3-4 accumulator isn't needed flipping the piston with the sping just blocks it off, its common just to delete it you can stack two pistons or some kits have you pound a ball bearing inside the inlet but I like to tap it and put a set screw with a little lock tight. This also extends the life of you 3-4 clutch pack.

      I think you basically just lower the separator plate slowly, and when reinstalling you just have to set them in place and install the plate slowly making sure they don't roll out of place. • @martinez1701a

      Very Good Garage is right they did make changes in the 4l60e from different years but the oil circuits in all 4l60e cases are the same. For example I have a 95 yukon 4x4, I can use any 4l60e and it will work fine as long as you keep the same valve body and separator plate for that specific year. The year will be embossed right next to the pressure control valve.

    • @chucksmith8200
      @chucksmith8200 Před 3 lety +1

      The servo he upgraded is a hydraulic piston that pushes on a coated steel band inside the transmission. The band surrounds the clutch housing and when the PCU "Power Control Module" senses a downshift or engine braking condition the servo extends which squeezes the band thus slowing or stopping the spinning clutch pack to allow what ever operation asked for. Go to CZcams channel
      Precision Transmissions Richard does an excellent job of explaining how transmissions work.

      @@chucksmith8200 that’s the 2-4 band accumulator, not brake band accumulator. That’s also not how it works. Engine braking is done by the overrun clutches. The 2-4 band stops the reverse drum from rotating in 2nd and 4th gear.
