Sid Vicious did not start Punk but he was the embodiment of Punk. If punk was a pshysical being, it would have been Sid. BTW, Sid was actually not as stupid and dangerous as he led people to believe. He was actually very shy, kind and smart (when he stayed away from those bloody drugs atleast).
Exactly just because he couldn't play bass doesn't make him any less of a person. To me it's not about how talented you are it's about how much you love music and what you're trying to do with it. And he really tried. Yeah he really was so unique. I really have to admire him for that.

And from the assessments I've read from those who were around him, in the end he became a fair bass player. He had the look, the attitude, a presence and a charisma. He probably could've been great. RIP young prince of punk.
