    1. On making habits: project 365 and Seinfields' approach of not breaking the chain have helped me a lot in forming a daily shooting habit.
    2.This in turn made me much more familiar with my cameras and what results they produce.
    3. Agreed on "just start shooting". Taking the first photo of the day have helped me numerous times, both to snap back from bad mood and to get nice images.

    Years ago I read in a photography magazine that you should always have a camera with you and be ready to shoot because sometimes the pictures find you.
    I heeded those wise words and they are so true because I have come across many beautiful pictures opportunities and have made beautiful pictures because I had a camera ready.
    I never leave my home without a camera, no matter where I am going.

    Hola Adrian. I’ll have to watch this video several times as it resonates so much with me. I carry my camera with me all the time, but more than once I end up not getting it out of the bag at all, only maybe to contemplate it, which is not useful as it should be pointing outwards and making photos.
    Anyway, I need to start looking out of the box for compositions and subjects that might not appear interesting, but depending on how you frame them, they become a whole different story. Love your candor and humility and especially your minimalistic photo style. Got yourself a new subscriber from Venezuela/Panama.

    Thank you for this. I take a lot of pictures around where I live. Some are really boring, bbut then I heard this this and realise I need to think of them in a different light. And some I take I really like - so thank you for making feel as though I'm not wasting time, battery or memory.

    Practice makes you good at what you do, and if what you do is not good or right - if that is what you are practicing - you'll only get good at not being good. Or as someone clever said "Practice doesn't make Perfect: only Perfect Practice makes Perfect".

    • @aows
      @aows  Před 16 dny

      I don't know. Sure, practice should go hand in hand with reflecting on our work and seeking feedback. But still, I think the dangers of *not* practicing, of only taking our camera out when we get to go somewhere exotic, far outweigh the hypothetical dangers of "getting good at not being good". Learning how to pay attention and how to see in the mundane can only help you.

    This is a great post on building good learning habits Adrian. I don't follow a daily routine, but I do take my camera with me almost everywhere, not just when I plan to make images, but anytime I'm out and about. Even a weekly habit is a great way to hone your skills and interest. I love the contact sheet idea (especially coming from a film and print background). I'd love to see a post with more detail on how you curate that. I'm also curious how you keep yourself from being overwhelmed by the images you collect. My personal (BW hobby, non family) digital photo collection is only around 3100 images, but even that seems impossibly hard to organize, thin, manage etc. Would love to hear you talk about how you manage all of your work, especially with regard to the stuff you do in the daily routine.

    I've just started doing photography last year when it started and I've been shooting nun stop (i think) but when I git home I could nor travel or go out with my camera in hand because of crime rates in my neighbourhood. It's insane, I jave to wait to get to town for school so I can go around with my camera. But even there it's not safe I have to be carefull.

    I do I get in the habbit of processing those photos I take. I don't shoot daily, but I do try to bring my camera with me everywhere. And my hardest thing is getting around to processing them... I'm like a month's worth of photos that I need to do...lol

  • @carolwatts944

    I really appreciate your message here. I have a question though: you mention that you keep all your photos in a “book.” Obviously, it’s on your hard drive or perhaps in the Cloud. I shy away from Lightroom/photoshop (too much brain power for this older brain). Will you share what you use? It looks like a fairly simple method & straight forward. Also, I’m mostly drawn to ordinary, everyday subjects & notice that you shoot those subjects, too. As Saul Leiter said, (paraphrased),the most uninteresting thing can be beautiful. Keep up your good work. I appreciate your content.

    • @aows
      @aows  Před 9 měsíci

      I agree with that, I’d say even more, it’s usually more rewarding to find beauty in the ordinary. It opens your eyes and you see your surroundings in a very different light. About the book, I just recently started to print out all the photos I take in yearly volumes, I talk about it here hope it helps: “I printed all the photos I took in 2022”
