No one should ever do time for shooting a burglar. Once they invade your home they are posing a threat to your family and your property. A man or woman has the right to defend his or her family and property by any mean necessary.
Absolutely and if your state allows that. Argue that point as hard as you can. A lot of people don't realize its usually not safe to retreat, and I will not put my own life in danger to save some idiot who breaks into my house.
The Important word here is "necessary"

My step mom is blind and disabled, so she stays home all day. Someone tried to break in while she was home alone but ran off once they heard her calling out to ask who was there. Dad and I go home(worried together at the time), we obviously call the cops to be safe, and they told us that middle of the day is actually a really popular time for home invasions because it's most likely when the house will be empty.
Yes, sometimes even neighbors could be involved because they know how many people live in the home and at what time they leave.

I'm surprised they didn't give any more tips about "once you're actually invaded" besides just shooting the guy. I heard in a video recently that one of the best things you can do is turn off your lights, because you know your own house better than the invader does, so you should be able to still navigate it effectively in the dark if you need to hide or find a weapon.

Ever seen someone shine a flash light in pitch darkness in your house? It lights up almost the entire place, light reflects. You can see the light from around more corners than you'd think.

I don't know what the laws are but I have been in a mental hospital before but it was when I was a minor and if I could somehow be tested again I would be judged as more than competent. I have no criminal record and have countless people that could vouch for me. I also for much of my life would live alone. So is there a legal path to me owning a firearm if I could be tested by any number of mental health professionals?

I live in a state with a stand your ground law. So if a person invades your house you can be 911. Hey it takes the cops on average 11 minutes to come and a bullet can go over 2,600 feet per second.

I was just saying that the Taliban just got control of Afghanistan and with it all the weapons the US left for the Afghanistan army (which surrendered everything to the Taliban). Some of those weapons will be used by the Taliban and some will be sold illegally around the world.

If you own a firearm, you need to know how to use it. Owning a gun is straight up constitution friendly, but everyone should know how to use it properly. Imo they should teach it in public school, under close supervision

It is a courageous act of duty, but illegal in certain jurisdictions where the law is on the criminal's side. Don't forget most politicians are crooks themselves. In that case you'd have to hide/dispose of the burglar's body somehow and erase all the evidence; blood stains, etc.

As someone who has survived a home invasion at 15 years old, in my case they were there for nothing but violence and ill say.. it happens fast, like super quick leaving you no time to think. Get out of the house get to a phone and call the cops, you want to make sure someone's coming for you before you get yourself in trouble charging in there. number 2 be prepared for no one to want to help you. Most people don't want to involve themselves in a life or death situation, if you're overtaken 9 times out of 10 good luck and if you're gonna tote weapons which is your right in my belief TRAIN WITH IT OFTEN.

@@vald-qb2ow Many burglars are actually unarmed, other than their tools, and would sprint off at the sign of confrontation. Though you never really know for sure. Since you never really know for sure, I'll settle with keeping my family safe with the use of firearms.

In the US, due to the risk of facing an armed homeowner, they come during the day when everyone is at work. In other countries with strict gun laws, they come during the night with some weapon to force people to not just rob the place but also target the homeowner (to do such things such as disable alarms, send wire transfers, etc).
Personally I have never had an issue with a semiautomatic shotgun (but I've always stayed away from the cheap ones)... You just need to find an ammunition it likes and clean it periodically...
But I have run into a few issues with pump shotguns when not maintained! But the pumps are not as picky with the ammo.
I keep a Walther 9mm and IWI TS12 around for home defense.
The TS12 is a bullpup shotgun, which keeps it short allowing it to work well in tight areas (e.g. a hallway).

You always have to keep caution with any gun. Ik a police chief of TWRA or the Tennessee wildlife resource agency. And one time a guy was hunting with his buddy and the guy had a very expensive double barrel and he laid it down and ya the gun shot his friend in the side where your ribs are

In certain states or common wealths like Kentucky you can shoot someone just for walking on your property. Or so I was told not 100% sure of that. It makes sense in certain instances. Someone could be on your property trying to steal livestock or whatever just something that might be used to make your livelihood
@@elidblfap2818 I would not shoot someone for being on the property, unless they are threatening your life. Stand your ground will only go so far but wont save you from "oh I saw he walked on to my property.".
If anyone crosses my threshold it's 100% compliance season.
Dogs. A copule of mid to large sized dogs will keep you safe enough just by being around. When living in russia, bears are also quite good. But I would rather go with dogs since they don't need as much food as a full sized bear...now that I think about it I think I might need a bear just for the fun of it.

Alarm dogs are great. Ones that bark a lot when something seems off.
Many intruders aren't deterred by dogs. Leaving treats or some raw meat out is enough to remove most of them from the equation. If a burglar is breaking in, they've probably cased the house out already and prepared for the dogs. The dogs they don't want to deal with above any other are the small yapping dogs, as many of them will still bark even if given a treat.

Pick the correct ammunition, regardless if it’s a pistol, rifle, or shotgun. Get some training and perhaps get something like USCCA in the event you have to use your weapon.
AR 15 hands down the better tool here, especially running varmint rounds. the chance of over pen is lower at the cost of stopping power but you have another 29 rounds of hate in the mag
AR15 is actually is not good for home defense. Just get a shotgun. A .556 round will go through the bad guy, through the wall, and through the wall of your neighbor’s house and that’s if you even hit the bad guy. Killing your neighbor will land you in prison.

@@tallflguy That can happen with 9mm as well. That's why hollow points are used in self defense. I personally prefer to have my Glock 19 over my m4 for home defense but both are completely fine.

That’s FAR worse. You have overpenetration, usability issues, hearing damage, and far less ammo. I recommend you watch the warrior poet society’s videos on home defense.

7:27 Most home invasions do not take place at night, that is false. Most home invasions actually take place during work hours. Burglars typically bust in when the inhabitants are gone. This is so they don't have to deal with gramps busting out the ATA Arms Etro Tactical 12 Gauge Pump-Action Hunting Shotgun or gramma calling the police.

When I was robbed it was during the day. Guy had cased my place earlier that week as a repair man. He didn't expect me to be home I guess.
One of the best things they talked about in my ccw class is that ANYTHING is a deadly weapon. If the intruder has any object in his hand that could potentially cause death, even if it’s a nail clipper, that’s a deadly threat. Luckily in the state I live a home intruder doesn’t need to be armed to taste lead nor do they need to be warned their about to.
If someone breaks into my house and doesn’t manage to take me out, I’m going to disembowel them… at least they won’t be breaking into anyone else’s house for some time to come

I actually kinda disagree with the whole “ safe room” point.I have to focus on clearing rooms, with potential bad guys running around, and with my family scrambling around for a safe room/ exit. That’s more random variables, more people I have to positively ID, more people making noises, and if a person gets caught by one of the bad guys, that’s a hostage situation and you re not working your way out of that one if you are running a shotty.
How I was taught for home invasions if you are by yourself is to barricade the room, get out of the fatal funnel ( doorway) and post up and deal with any threats that try to break in. You can probably have all your family members do that in whatever room that they are in, so makes it a hassle for the intruder to get in, they are in a stationary place out of the fight, and it’s pretty simple to confirm that they are in there, and keeps them out of your way while you go to work.

One of the most informative things I have been told is that I a person breaks in during the day they are there to steal stuff. They are trying to avoid you being home. If they break in at night they are there to hurt you, and if you end them you're probably doing Society a favor.
Well our two break ins were during the day and they only wanted our things.
It just truly bugs me that they use the term "assault rifle" when discussing AR's. True "assault rifles" are select fire with either burst or full auto. Your "modern sporting rifle" you buy at your local gun store most likely isn't a true "assault rifle"...
I'm just happy this didn't turn into an anti-gun video and they actually explained that it's beneficial to teach children to use guns instead of hiding it from them and making them more likely to get curious and hurt themself.
Your a fool, The M16-A4 isnt an assault rifle, its a battle rifle, your sterotypical armalyte rifle however IS. its all about the rounds they take, your typical AR-15 takes 5.56x45 so it is very much an assault rifle. and m16 is a battle rifle because it takes 5.56x39

My personal firearm I have for home defense is a 20 gauge, double barrel, pistol grip, short barrel shot gun, loaded with bird shot. Easy to use, with plenty enough stopping power, that, most importantly, won't go through the walls.
This is why I selected this firearm. I don't have to worry about accidentally hitting some one or something I can't see, especially if I miss
Most firearm instructors recommend against birdshot in favor of #4 buckshot. Birdshot is unreliable for self-defense purposes at any range beyond 7 feet.
Most of the people I talk to who use birdshot for self defense are extremely resistant to this advice or doing any research, so chances are you also wont take it to heart, but hey it's your life that's on the line so you do you. In either case I wish you the best.

Shotguns typically have long barrels & can be difficult to maneuver in CQB for smaller stature people.
A PCC like the MP5 is better suited for home defense.
Shame the BATFE is super gay and you have to pay and extra $200 tax and a year long wait for a SBR. Oh it's not a rifle, well it is now. God I hate that agency.
A PCC can also be suppressed which is essential in a life-or-death firearms fight indoors and in the dark.

In Europe many have huge problems in this respect:
1) no castle doctrine amd difficult weapon laws. If you can own a gun, it's likely that you need to lock it in a gun safe with the ammunition somewhere else.
2) living in flats in the upper floor (only one way to escape and whl controlls the corridor can prevent movement to all rooms)
3) living for rent means that you cannot upgrade security

There's so much misinformation here regarding weapon choice. Normally I'd laugh it off but lives could be at stake here.
First of all, there's a difference between troops overseas at war and home defense against burglars. The reason that it took the AR 15 platform multiple hits to down enemies was because modern body armor is extremely effective at stopping the 5.56 caliber of the AR 15. Furthermore, at ranges past 600m, where soldiers were frequently engaging, the 5.56 caliber's ballistic performance suffers drastically. That said, if you're trying to defend your home from a burglar, they probably aren't wearing level IV plates and your home probably isn't 6 'Murican football fields long.
The AR 15 platform is ideal for home defense. Contrary to popular belief and what's stated in the video, the 5.56 caliber of an AR 15 does not overpenetrate through drywall nearly as much as the 9mm pistol caliber or buckshot from a 12 Gauge (the most common shotgun home defense round). You can find videos on overpenetration on youtube as proof. As you are only engaging in close quarters, you will want a short barreled rifle (SBR) with a barrel around 10 inches long. The shorter barrel will allow for more maneuverability within tight spaces. However, be aware of the federal/state laws on SBR's. Alternatively, you could get a AR 15 pistol, which is an SBR but with a "pistol brace" instead of the stock. Functionally, a pistol brace and a stock are nearly identical. Furthermore, you'll need a flashlight on your home defense weapon, regardless of whether it's a rifle or a pistol. This is absolutely necessary. Ideally, your AR 15 should have a suppressor, but if laws or finances prevent you from having one, make sure you have some sort of muzzle device like a compensator to divert flash. Muzzle flash in the dark can be disorienting, and prevent you from making effective follow up shots. Lastly, and most importantly, make sure you have some sort of red dot or holographic sight on your weapon. This makes target acquisition much faster, and you may not be able to see iron sights in the dark.
A pistol can be an alternative, but it should not be your first choice. Nonetheless, if a pistol is your only option, go with a 9mm as the video said. 9mm handguns have less recoil and larger magazine capacity compared to .45 ACP, which allows for more effective follow up shots. Although .45 ACP is larger and more powerful, "stopping power" has been largely proven to be a myth. There are many great 9mm handgun options on the market, referred to as the "wonder nines", which include handguns from Glock, Sig Sauer, Smith and Wesson, HK, Ruger, and more. As with the rifle, make sure your home defense handgun has a flashlight and ideally a red dot sight. Muzzle device optional unless you're John Wick (you're not). If you do decide to go with a pistol for home defense, make sure you practice frequently. Even experienced shooters tend to neglect to train with their pistols because they're not as much fun as rifles.
Generally I would not recommend shotguns for home defense. This is because federal laws require shotgun barrels to be longer than rifle barrels, making them awkward to manipulate in close quarters. Furthermore, most shotguns only hold around 8 rounds, while a standard rifle magazine holds 30 rounds. One argument people make for shotguns is that buckshot "fans out" so you don't have to be as accurate. This is extremely misleading when it comes to home defense. Shotguns in real life do not "fan out" nearly as much as they do in video games. Within close quarters, there is barely any dispersion, meaning you still have to be very accurate. This brings me to my next point, which is that buckshot at close quarters acts more like a slug than loose pellets. It can easily overpenetrate through drywall, injuring anyone on the other side. The recoil on shotguns is also much greater, meaning your follow up shots will be slower and less accurate.
Tl,Dr: Get an AR 15 for home defense. Have the barrel length be around 10 inches (within legality of course). Mount a flashlight, red dot sight, and suppressor (again, legality) on it. If you sweep through your home looking for a home intruder, don't do it alone; if possible, have someone come with you.
Obviously what I've just said are the words of some random keyboard warrior on the internet. Do your own research and find your own conclusions. Most importantly, remember that the best gun is the one you train with.

I have two dogs that have been raised to guard me. Suka 130 lb female German Rottweiler, and Zeus my purebred 110 lb blue nose pit. I am also very well-armed throughout the house. I'm 5 ft 8 in about 3-4 years ago at 4 in the morning during August someone tried to walk through the front door. I gave the alert signal who is it not to the door but to my dogs. When I open the door there was some guy little over 6 ft he immediately started saying my bad my bad. The dogs immediately cornered him, I just yelled at him to get out he didn't live in this neighborhood . I came back into the house grab a handgun waited about 5 minutes. Later when I stepped out to see if he was gone he was going house to house trying the front door. He realized I was seeing him and he started walking towards me apologizing I told him to stay back don't come closer. When he got within 15 ft of me I fired two rounds in the air and he took off running. I've never seen him again but one of the neighbors claims he was a former student at the school we both worked at.
Hey, if someone breaks into my home, it’s not a matter of me valuing my possessions over a human life. They decided they valued my possessions more than their own life the moment they chose to break in. Doesn’t matter if they’re armed or not, I’m not taking a chance on them hurting my family.
You need to be fairly accurate with a shotgun particularly at close range, it doesn't spread as much as you'd think. Unless you make an illegal sawed off/ short barrel shotgun which is technically regulated under the 1934 NFA. (Even then it doesn't spread that much). I guess you could also make an AOW or pistol shotgun too. But do what you want this is not legal advice nor am I a lawyer

Disregard any firearm advice you heard in the video. All of it was God awful and clearly written by someone who has very little experience or knowledge of firearms.
A decent gun collection is very helpful. And also like this video said youth education on firearms is very important my 11 year old daughter has been shooting since she was 8, my 7 year old daughter doesn’t shoot yet but loves coming to the range and understands the firearms and the safety. I hope I never have to use any of my firearms in a situation like this but a have a decent collection of many different types and calibers just in case.

I disagree, clearing a home by yourself is a bad idea and puts you at a tactical disadvantage. It is best to arm yourself and get your family to a defendable position. Do not open fire on a door opening without identifying the target. Someone breaks in my house as long as they don’t come near my family they can take what they want, if they do come I’ll be in a better position to take them out.

That part was surprisingly good, but the actual firearm-selection advice was garbage.
Not mentioned is the military uses fmj rounds almost exclusively in their rifles. Switch to soft points or ballistic tipped rounds, and the rifle is a far better tool for defending the home with much less recoil than a shotgun.

Okay, no disrespect against the .45 I personally have more .45 lead spitters than 9mm, I love the .45, but if I had to face a squad equipped with body armor all by myself, neither of those 2 calibers would be adequate. A 7.62 battle rifle might do the trick
AR15s in 5.56 are the best option for most people and part of that is that 5.56 penetrates less interior walls than service pistol calibers and buckshot. It's the most responsible and effective choice for home defense.
Shotguns are not near as good as a rifle and inside a home. They are basically a rifle inside a home because the buckshot spread will only be about 2-3". Combine that with much higher recoil and much less capacity easily make it a less optimal tool than an AR15.
In regards of the 9mm pistol you guys recommend, a handgun is harder to aim, manage recoil, and stop a threat with the least amount of bullets shot; that is if you do not have a full size 6 to 7 inches barrel and it takes 16 rounds, any other size pistol would be very difficult. Now, you guys also talk about rifles and specially the ar-15 platform, and while I agree with some of what you guys said. I also believe that for an average to small size home a short barrel rifle(sbr) or an AR-15 pistol will be more than ideal. This is because you would get multiple points of contact, it would be very easy to manage recoil, and in the event that a not so strong person (a kid, petite person, etc) is the one that has to pull that trigger, it would be way easier to manipulate in a stressful situation. In addition, a rifle will offer a larger capacity of fire ( with most states allowing 30 rounds magazines) and the loudness of the rifle firing will be loud enough that it will alert your neighborhood, and hopefully someone will call 911 in the event that you didn't have the opportunity to do so.
