- The death of Queen Elizabeth is triggering intense grief in America. Over the decades, the queen endeared herself to many Americans. The lights on the Empire State Building in New York glowed purple and silver in Queen Elizabeth's honor. The late-night show hosts Jimmy Fallon and British-born James Cordon also paid their respects to the queen. Barbra Streisand posted, "She was a constant for us all. Respected around the world. May she rest in peace."
Her death is truly heartbreaking, even at 96. Her spirit was felt throughout the entire world. Such a classy lady with poise and dignity.

In my home state of Oklahoma, every flag pole, both federal and privately owned, was at half mast in honor of the queen's passing. Even though she wasn't our queen, she was still respected and admired as if she were, and I would've been honored to have her as our leader. Despite not knowing her personally, I was so saddened to hear of her passing, and I couldn't help but tear up during her funeral.

Obviously I never knew her personally but I had met and spoke with her when I was invited to one of her Garden Parties. Her loss is still felt in the UK.
As an American, I'm wearing the Union Jack flag I hand fashioned to worked tomorrow. A service to her country and to the world. Her Majesty the Queen.

Intresting fact, when the queen ordered the US national anthem to be played at the changing of the guards ceremony, it broke a 600 year old tradition, almost twice as long as the entire history of the US.
This gave me chills. She was the best Queen this world has ever known. Princess Diana would have been an amazing royal Queen Consultant. I'm still sad she's gone.
i am a citizen of the USA who normally couldn't care less about the activities of the Royal Family, I have to say God Bless the Queen. She served the United Kingdom and commonwealth faithfully as the longest reigning Monarch in the history of the Royal Family . Just after Queen Elizabeth passed, a double rainbow appeared near Windsor Castle and another rainbow appeared over the Victoria Memorial near Buckingham Palace, quite magical when you think that 'Operation Unicorn' was activated upon the Queen's death! It saddens me that I didn't learn about her service in the British Army until after she passed. She was a very fascinating woman.
Oh yes, when she was younger and her father was King and before she was married she worked in the motor pool and learned to repair the trucks. From what I could tell she wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty. When she married they had to use ration books for the fabric for her wedding dress.

@@greeneyesfromohio4103s and no, but during the war she insisted she be allowed to help in the army, she wanted no special treatment and the only occasion in her life she had a normal day was the day the war ended. She disguised herself and went into the streets to celebrate with everyone else.
Her dad didn't want her to join the army and kept saying no but eventually he relented, and she insisted on going where she was needed most, regardless of the risk to herself.
During COVID when her husband died the pm said the funeral rules would be relaxed for her but again she insisted that she be subject to the same rules as everyone else. If we suffered because of them so would she.
But her personal wealth is not that high.

She was apparently a fairly good driver and mechanic. Famously, when the King of Saudi Arabia came to the UK, she drove him around in a Land Rover quite erratically/aggressively (while maintaining the grip in Scottish Highlands around Balmoral).
She voluntarily followed Covid protocols, even during the Prince Philips funeral.

My entire class in my college all people mostly my age 19-25 were shocked and that’s here In the us where the Royal family is hardly ever thought of just shows how much of a universal figure she was, known by people from all backgrounds and ages

For those who keep saying that people will forget about her, stop. She was queen for 70 years, that's the longest she was queen. She faces the harsh reality of World War 2, met with a lot of U.S. Presidents and leaders, and to top it all off, she was so kind to everyone she met, leader or not; not to mention she has a really great sense of humor. So I ask to think mkre clearly before you even say "People will forget about her. Give it time."

I’m an American and when I heard she died I started sobbing because I truly loved her as a person and as the queen.
As a Brit I am devastated. She has been her my whole life, and my parents whole lives and my grandparents whole lives. She was a constant who saw out country fro, WW2 To Covid 19. Through everything that happened, the end of the empire, the Cold War, and most recently the pandemic we looked to her for comfort.
