I practice for 8 hours trying to copy the way yuto horigome does his kickflips, after very tiring and sweaty rag full sessions, I kept going and eventually reached the end of this painful journey, after 4 days i have finally have kickflips on lock just like yuto horigome!
Exactly I'm a good skater or maybe great. But I asked another super good skater about my foot position for a tre flip because I was insecure about it and he said you can do it anyway you want if it works.
Hard disagree. He does that cause that’s what’s comfortable to him. Everyone has different bone structures so foot positions will vary. I thought we learned this concept already?
Nah this is new to me. That’s very good to know about the bone structure thing though. I do tricks like pop shuvits with different foot positioning than other people do, so this makes sense, never though of it like that.
it actually is that deep obv u can kickflip from almost any stance if u really wanted to but nyjah does the same thing and other consistent pros do too. It just makes it easier to control especially on higher rolling speed
I also studied yutos kickflip and got a lot more consistent. my takeaway was that I need to focus on rolling my front foot so I'm doing the flick with the top of the toe cap on the grip tape instead of flicking it with the corner or the side of the shoe. once I started doing it this way i've been landing them more often and they're getting higher off the ground. Watch Filipe Mota too his kickflips are just as fire
Felipe actually taught me them no lie. I didn’t know who he was. I just thought he was some 15 year old. I Havnt caught up with any new skaters so I had no clue. But what your saying is 100% key. And also making sure that your front knee doesn’t go any higher once you start flicking. If you look at yutoknee it never goes up higher once he starts the flick.
I've done this with heel flips and kick flips. I found it more important to kick fast and let the board rise up into my foot. I don't put any energy into flipping the board, it spins easily from the board hitting my foot rather than trying to put my foot into flipping the board Edit: I've even put my foot almost facing completely forward. This helps get a faster kick which seems more important than power
pros are consistent on tricks because they are very deliberate about landing what they do. They commit to most of their attempts rather than just tossing a trick out and hoping to land it.
@@smking_125 no sorry bro, but I skate regular, and put my left foot just under the top 2 bolts (side view) and angle my feet about 60 degrees or something like that
This is not entirely accurate. What you’re saying perfectly describes the shot of you & your feet at the end of the video. Yuto’s footwork is different. He starts at a 45 but quickly rotates to a 90 before flipping. This allows him more drag. The same scenario which you are suggesting he avoids. In reality, he drags at a 90° angle to get a lot of drag and height, which then allows his foot to flip with more power outwardly than most. Giving him both better height and flip speed. It’s hard to see and understand this, because it happens so fast.
This is how I kickflip as well, maybe not as exaggerated but I hang my foot off a bit, I think a lot of skaters who started young kickflips like that too because that's how I did it as a kid, I have more of my foot on the board these days, but just enough to have control over it, and I make sure to flick off of the nose so it gets that dip
Used to do that all the time and was told to change it because it did "not look good." Spent a long time trying to learn to do kickflips with the least foot angle possible. Does not work. Skateboarding is not about conformance, but rather, unique expression and that includes the way one does their tricks.
theres no way to do kick flip wrong, plus most people look at a kick flip like this as a tweaked kick flip where u bring the nose down and tail back up like a tweaked out ollie but not as intense, still looks so good to angle the board like that
The real answer to this question is “because he’s done a shitload of kickflips” there’s so many different ways to a kickflip In terms of foot placement but really the key to doing them consistently is if you skate a lot and do a lot of kickflips it’s that simple
Ye I found this out like about 2 weeks ago. I was having a lil trouble wit my kickflips, until I put my foot more of an angle like yuto nd my flick was immaculate.
you can put your foot in every angle ! the secret to flip hig fast and controlled is keep shoulders parallel to the board and when you flik the flip you must flik out the nose not lateral ....if you put your foot like this you just open your shoe for notihg....hes flip is good but wrong at hig speed you can get trouble!
He puts his foot at an exaggerated angle because he starts his kickflip with his shoulders quite open (his upper body is almost 45 degrees to the board). Other people do kickflips like this and have their front foot pointed similarly, Luan for example
This is what I call the beginners kickflip. Once your kickflips and ollies are seamless you well understand what I mean, look up Mike Mo's videos about it.
I do my foot like that for flat stuff. But it’s too unstable for me when doing like a stair or a gap. Having more foot on the board and less of an angle works better for me there.
Everyone has different kicky. I’ve seen Yuto flips from heel flip stance before and it still looked the same kickflip. We just need to keep practicing until it gets on lock.
Maybe just for him. Not the same for everyone. Jeremy Wray has his toe hanging off the board and ollies alot more than flicks.......he's consistent too
What’s wrong with AA?? Homie is dumb good and hell of a nice guy too. So don’t really know what you mean…there’s a reason he’s been been that dude for powell peralta 💯 lol
when you learn new tricks and start to get consistent try to go to the next step up with the trick as soon as possible to keep progressing , and then when u go back to smaller step it'll be even more consistent
He’s leaving a bunch of other info out and focusing on the angle of his front foot, he places his front foot up by the bottom bolts of his front truck, he sets up almost like Nyjah and Shane O’Neill and has roughly 40% of his front foot on the board, and the most important part is……. He practiced the shit out of kickflips 😂😂.

It's just practice. Anyone can be consistent with any trick in any for position with practice.

@@joelmedina6837does yuto's technique easier?
Exactly I'm a good skater or maybe great. But I asked another super good skater about my foot position for a tre flip because I was insecure about it and he said you can do it anyway you want if it works.
I’ve been able to do kick flips for like 10 years and I’ll still only be able to land like 3 out of 10 kick flips 😂
@dannyrazo2095 some tricks just be like lol
Cuz he’s good
fair
Literally
Hard disagree. He does that cause that’s what’s comfortable to him.

It's not that deep that's just how he's comfortable. He's also professional so of course he has consistent kick flips
Sounds about right
Yeah, it’s just preference. You can have consistent, high kick flips with different foot position. Just a lot of practice is needed

Thankss for this, im going to try thinking about flicking it this way
That’s how I do it too but I’m not all that great so I ride slow 😂
Great breakdown! 👊 Yotu is amazing!

Everybodys different, your tricks will change over the years
I also think that having tight asf trucks also helps with this. I can't turn my feet out that much because I skate loose trucks
I concur, I skate somewhat tight and I flip the same way. do u have a vid to show ur placement?
@@smking_125 no sorry bro, but I skate regular, and put my left foot just under the top 2 bolts (side view) and angle my feet about 60 degrees or something like that

yuto doesn't even know he does this, hes just done thousands so its perfect muscle memory
90’s skater here! This is how I was taught to kickflip, but mine were never that clean. Ever.
Same here bro. Started skating in '94. Cheers from Canada!
You can also do them late. Ollie and as your board levels out and your foot is at the nose, you give a light flick off the nose to kick flip.
I have my shoulders parallel with my feet , like a switch kickflip. Helps me tremendously
It’s all personal preference tbh. I point mine like Yuto and I still don’t get a consistent flick
Just discovered this technique and it's helping me a lot. Also would love to hear your thoughts on the Andy Anderson board😊
Dont ignore the angle of the back foot
Used to do that all the time and was told to change it because it did "not look good." Spent a long time trying to learn to do kickflips with the least foot angle possible. Does not work. well said man! I'll remember this when learning!!
He also flicks horizontally, or sometimes very slightly downwards.
Yes this is the take away here and how you catch with your back foot. Don't flick up to the the sky
There’s hella consistent guys out there who use essentially Ollie position too.
Real secret is just getting after that shit every day 😎
Every skater has their trick imo, I can still nollie shuv clean asf and haven’t skated in years.
Crazy how I did kickflips like this for years and everyone told me I was doing it wrong. Weird how things change.
theres no way to do kick flip wrong, plus most people look at a kick flip like this as a tweaked kick flip where u bring the nose down and tail back up like a tweaked out ollie but not as intense, still looks so good to angle the board like that
u were - this guy took one grainy clip and said “here’s how yuto does em”
Bro is literally skating an Andy Anderson deck with dunks. Tasteless

I see you putting your 90s backpack lows to use, I love my pair so much
This was my technique for doubles and triples as well.
This makes sense. I couldn't figure out why my kickflips were off the other day.
Ye I found this out like about 2 weeks ago. I was having a lil trouble wit my kickflips, until I put my foot more of an angle like yuto nd my flick was immaculate.
I’m trying to find out how local joe has such consistent kick flips 😳
My front foot’s always just positioned like an ollie just behind the front truck bolts when doing kickflips.
Nyjah described how he he does this same thing.
This was awesome!!!!🔥🔥🙏

What ive learned is the more pointed your foot is like yuto , the faster itll flip , the more you have it pointed like a ollie the slower the flip.

andrew reynolds has a consistent kickflip too and a total different foot position.
I do my foot like that for flat stuff. But it’s too unstable for me when doing like a stair or a gap. Having more foot on the board and less of an angle works better for me there.
I see you with the andy anderson baby
That’s how I learned it
Everyone has different kicky. I’ve seen Yuto flips from heel flip stance before and it still looked the same kickflip. We just need to keep practicing until it gets on lock.
yuto in skinny jeans is crazy
Damn! Bro needs some new Vans.
How are you liking the new board?
I never skate in my life. But I think I'm ready to do a kick flip.
Seems like just the common sense thing that happens once you get good enough. Explaining it like it’s fucking rocket science
my man local joe needs to get a popsicle shape fr
I need to get this dude some Pzaz
Luan Oliveira is similar, but Jeremy Wray is the opposite.
Tom Penny was extremely consistent, but had/has a more normal stance.
Or at least that’s how he used to kickflip 7 years ago when he was on DVS
Very cool 😊😊
I think his kickflips are good but his heel flips are insane.
Maybe just for him. Not the same for everyone. Jeremy Wray has his toe hanging off the board and ollies alot more than flicks.......he's consistent too
Caption made me mad. Couldn’t see his feet:( I love these videos though ❤
so i’ve been kickflipping like yuto the whole time???
ppl just need to skate and remember what that shit means
Jeremy Wray has a consistent flick too. Look up his foot placement.
And watch the back foot, keep it pointing straight
i have my foot completely sideways for kick flips
this is accurate. i nollie flip like yuto and kick flip the other way . my nollie flips are way faster and more consistent
Because he's good...
I gave a like, its helpful but also i still cant do it lol
I’ll be damned if I take kick flip pointers from a guy who skates a Andy Anderson board
What’s wrong with AA?? Homie is dumb good and hell of a nice guy too. So don’t really know what you mean…there’s a reason he’s been been that dude for powell peralta 💯 lol
Cool
what happened to the white gums?
did yuto skate for DVS back in the day ?
U should have no problem w/any flip w/ that deck u got right dare buddy.
Your mom called. She’s disappointed in this video.
Bro your board shape i neeeeeddd it
Flick down g
Cause he works hard period
Bro got that Andy Anderson deck
absolutely amazing board i want that one too
yo what is ur board bro😭😭😭😭
I’m 25 and wanna get into skateboarding, am I too old?
Bro what is that board shape 😂
Eventually you will be able to do kick flips and heel flips from an ollie position. Just practice and comfort.
when you learn new tricks and start to get consistent try to go to the next step up with the trick as soon as possible to keep progressing , and then when u go back to smaller step it'll be even more consistent
I can do consistent kickflips and i dont angle my front foot at all... just know where to kick it.
He’s leaving a bunch of other info out and focusing on the angle of his front foot, he places his front foot up by the bottom bolts of his front truck, he sets up almost like Nyjah and Shane O’Neill and has roughly 40% of his front foot on the board, and the most important part is……. Its also why there was hardly any pop on that kickflip
First tip dont use that board if you’re learning kickflips
Maybe Yuto should explain it to us...
lithe only way I could teach myself was to turn my foot almost 45⁰
I position my foot the same
They was more of a 60° angle.
Thats Japanese steez generally tbh
BEND YOUR KNEES! THATS ALL
it would be better to emulate Nyjah´s kickflip, so much better and more consistent
I do this
Cause hes been skating for 18 years💀
He also gets payed to do it
Every person have his own way probably that way he doing not working for everyone
why so many skateboarding pseudo-scientists in my feed lately? honestly a bit cringe from my perspective
SkateIQ is the only one that I can say is legit. He really knows his shit
I feel tons of pro Asian skaters do this. Watch
Your Andy Anderson deck is illegal hahaha
Why the shoes
Old ass Yuto clip, Wearing a DVS shirt haha
