    I can't even believe the potential once Brightline extends to Tampa... Tampa International, The Port of Tampa all being connected by rail through Orlando International and onward to those ports and airports on the east coast. Such an exciting time for Central Florida! I hope the Tampa line comes sooner rather than later!

      no offense, but i think the way it is set up currently, stopping at all the best south florida towns on the east coast, is great. but Tampa is irrelevant, and nowhere near the type of experience one can have, from WPB down to Miami.. visited Tampa a few times, its nothing to write home about.

      @@FldaveeeeI can see your point, but imagine connecting 3 metros with over 13 million people. It is a big deal as far as infrastructure. This is what Europe is already doing. Plus, the state of FL continues to grow so there will be more improvements and frequency.

    I love Brightline, we used it for our last cruise, flew into Ft. Lauderdale had hotel in Aventura and sailed out of Miami. it was cheaper and more convenient to do it that way. I hope passenger trains catch on in the US finally

    Really appreciate that you clearly did lots of research before this review. I work in the passenger rail industry and I thought your explanations throughout the train service (like talking about the top speeds and track conditions) were excellent. Great video!

    We're excited in CA as well because that is the service chosen for our long wished-for HSR from SoCal to Vegas! Construction has already begun though traversing the mountains will be interesting. Anything is better than the 15 though! I am sharing this on my page so people unfamiliar with Brightline will see. I am also so happy FL is expanding, that plus JetBlue will make us happy!

    The main reason for the 110 mph limit is due to the NIMBYs in the area not wanting to allow fast trains in their area. They could have upgraded the crossings to European high speed standards but the counties had those same NIMBYs blocking local government spending to do so. The trip across the entire line should be around 30 minutes faster but blame those who interfered.

    Awesome service! You could have mentioned Brightline is planning to expand the service towards Tampa in the future, with a stop on/near Disney property (and possibly one near the convention center & the universal properties) When that finally opens, it will become even more convenient to take the train to your disney cruise :)

Fortunately, the train car we were in did not have the exterior wrap, obscuring the window. That seems like it would be a big disappointment.

    I tried Brightline recently going from Miami to Ft Lauderdale after a cruise. Loved it. I cannot wait to try it again. I did see a serious flaw with their self service store. Apparently someone had walked in behind another person not realizing he had to scan in himself. So whatever he picked and walked out with would end up getting charged to the other person. So if you use that shop, make sure no one is hot on your feet 🙂 I will probably take an extended weekend before long and fly to MCO to take the Bright line to Miami and back. Maybe hit up Medieval Times while I am there. Nice little weekend away.

    @jonesyokc Před 6 měsíci +1

    Finally got to finish the video. I have a lot of thoughts on Brightline. I think it is a fantastic travel option. It really opens up flight travel options prior to cruising. And when the day comes a station gets added near MLB, it will only make it even better. This allows you to shop for better flight options as the return journeys get expensive because of cruise travel day. I am with you on the wrap. It needs to go. The train I took didn't have it and having that unobstructed view was really good. I think Brightline needs to seriously consider adding a restaurant or bistro car to the trains running between Miami and Orlando. Siemens has two really good options available that would work with that trainset. I'm thinking the bistro car would be the better fit until service gets extended to Tampa. At that time swapping to the restaurant car would be a better move. It is also only a matter of time before additional cars get added to the sets. Your original journey to Ft. Lauderdale illustrates the need for Brightline to finish double tracking the route. I think that was a missed opportunity. My hope is also that one day the route will be electrified and the engines replace with faster and quieter electric units. Not that the locomotives are bad, but just that the electric units are an improvement. Dear Brightline, please add the bistro cars to the sets. Thanks in advance. 🙂 If you get a chance, Google "BordBistro"

      @@enjoystraveling I traveled solo so I got a roomette. Good for two people and was comfortable enough for me.
      First off, Orlando station doesn't have too much around it until late morning when a food vendor comes there with hot dogs and such (good hot dogs!) but there are vending machines inside and restrooms. It is a real old fashion style station.
      You get off at the new station in NYC which is fantastic inside. I took Acela back from there. Sleeper and Acela gives you access to the lounge upstairs at NYC so take advantage of it. The platforms for the trains in NYC are the same as before so it can get crowded down there.
      Overall, it was an interesting experience but next time I do a sleeper I'm going for a bedroom suite for the private restroom. (Old man here and frequent bathroom trips during the night.)

    I got a cruise coming up out of Ft Lauderdale and would like to use this. Still need to consider the ability to hop in the car from my house in Orlando and drive directly to the cruise terminal, and reverse that. The alternative would be a car or Uber to MCO, then wait for the train, then at the FLL train station, and another Uber to the terminal. Europe obviously has that point-to-point a bit more refined, but with all of this said, it might be nice to start taking US train transport just to support it and its hopeful progress.

    This is a super helpful video! Thanks for doing it. I would like to point out that, even if the timing looks like it'll work out, it's never a good idea to plan on traveling to a cruise port on embarkation day. Too much can go wrong and cause you to 'miss the boat'. We always recommend arriving near the port the day prior to embarkation. I have a question: How'd the duck thing go? I bet those crocheted ducks were adorable! Anyway, Disney put out a statement saying that guests are not allowed to hide them in public areas or in staterooms anymore. Booooo! I'm curious how much they are enforcing this.

    We are considering taking this down to the port after doing a day at the parks before the cruise. The prices are outrageous for debarkation day, but what about a 7:50 am departure from Orlando arriving at 10:35 on embarkation? Like how much time do we need to get off the train and get to the cruise terminal even if you have the earlier port arrival time (the 11-12ish one) There is already a huge price jump from the 6:50 departure to the next one the day we’d step off the ship. This is for a cruise in May. We just booked a military rate last minute 😅

    It also begs the question is the parking lot at the brightline start plus an Uber to the ship then from the ship plus the roundtrip train ticket for Two people more cost affected than just driving straight to the port terminal and parking there for 6 to 8 days. What would cost me less? That's the math that needs to be calculated

      We took our big bag as carry on going down because the checked bag area on the train was full. They allow you to take carry ons and the allowable size is quite big. My bag was just too big so on the way back I HAD to check it bc there was room. I hope that makes sense. It was only $25 to check bc my bag was oversize by their standards (to be fair my bag is pretty big) but a standard carry on or slightly bigger will work just fine

    1) You mentioned going through security - is it the same as the airport TSA security where you have to take your shoes off, etc.?

    The bright line is so comfortable and they offer a lot of services BUT I personally didn’t find it worth the $ (from miami) when it’s relatively the same time. I can get to Orlando in 3.5 hours with my car and therefore not have to Uber over there and the train takes 3 hours for $160 (round trip) and I still have to pay for an Uber ect :/ wish it was a little bit more affordable to make it really worth it

    I live in Atlanta, and would like to try Brightline the next time I cruise out of either Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. I would drive from ATL-MCO in one day. The issue is do I take Brightline on embarkation day, or the day before as you both did.
    Thanks for sharing.

      In my opinion, it’s always better to arrive the day before. Even when flying, there can be delays such as twice when I was flying out of Orlando I had to wait for hours for the plane to depart safely because of a huge thunderstorm.
      Another time when I was flying into Orlando the plane had to arrive in Tampa instead because of a different thunderstorm over Orlando so it wasn’t safe to arrive there
      I’ve taken Brightline twice and I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve not combined it with a cruise yet.

    Hi
    I have another question about luggage: Is it true that I have to pay to take suitcases on board (I'm coming from overseas)? Can I take my luggage with me in the SmartClass or is there a special luggage trolley? I also understood that I have to check in my luggage. Is it correct?
    Maybe you can answer my questions? Thanks

    How was the luggage issue? I was told you can only carry on the size luggage you can get onboard an aircraft as opposed to a bag you normally check in that was bigger. What’s the details on that part?

    We are going in the Dream Jan 31st. Do you think it would be a good choice on demarkation day up to west palm beach airport? From Ft. Lauderdale

      Check the website for the train, but I believe when you arrive in West Palm train station they have a shuttle going to the airport

    How did you ship your luggage from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando? Where can you book this service?

    Seems a shame that it doesn’t go to Port Canaveral.
    I would much rather ride the train where I can get up and move around with the amenities than sit in an airport waiting for a flight, go thru security, then crammed in for a 1 hour flight and having to deboard, etc.
    It appears that Trip Advisor offers “Brightline train to Port Canaveral” for 2 at a price of $300 but I suspect half that cost is ground transportation from one of their stops to the port.
    So it looks like if you are cruising Disney and staying at one of the resorts your best bet is still the Disney Cruiseline bus. They pick you up at your resort at a specified time and take you directly to the Disney Cruise Terminal. This also means you don’t need to stay overnight near the port.
    I believe that the bus is cheaper too by the time you pay for an Uber to the airport to catch the train, the train ticket and an Uber to either your hotel or the cruise port. It’s certainly much cheaper than the premium ticket. Depending on when you are traveling the food you get with premium may be unneeded. The need to stay overnight to be sure to get to the port at the right time also increase the overall cost of using the train.
    So as much as I prefer the train, if you have a family the cost (assuming at least 4 people) will become between the two options (train vs bus) even greater.

    So funny American’s reaction to effective fast rail travel compared to life in Europe which is pretty standard (mostly)!

    How does luggage work? Thanks!

    • @ThemeParkExpress
      @ThemeParkExpress  Před 6 měsíci

      Similar to an airline you can bring one personal and one carry on (though no one really checks 👀) they have a bag sizer and if your bag is too big (it’s a VERY generously sized sizer) then you must check your bag for $25. The only reason why I had to check mine the second time was bc my big white bag was JUST barely too big to bring on. If you have a standard size carry on or just a bit bigger you’re good to bring it on with you and put in luggage rack or overhead.

    Just an FYI disney food blog posted that Disney Cruise Line does not approve of hiding the ducks on the ships anymore and that cast members are told to discard any that they see being hid around the ships.

    Nice review - we have contemplated this once service started. The train just adds to the experience. Is the port within 5 miles of the train station? Would the be a free UBER with a premier ticket?

    • @ThemeParkExpress
      @ThemeParkExpress  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The port is within 5 miles so I assume it is included in the Uber ride :)
