If I were a musician, or lyricist, this would be my greatest achievement. Honestly the harmony and complex timing, with the lyrics. Simple and super complex. I would die saying that's one the best songs ever. Just hearing it made me a better person. Unforgettable. And I never thought much about Paul Simon's music before this song. Although the 80's classics, like "you can call me Al"... good stuff. The accordion is the master of this track in that mix, making that hypnotic rhythm infectious.
Incredible observation , I was fortunate enough to see this live back in 2011 in Detroit at the Fox theater Incredible show , the 12 string guitar is mind blowing 😊🎵🔊💓
Lifelong PS fan. PS was scared of old age according to interviews. That is what the song Old Friends is about. But he is doing awesome and rocking out. His line "how terribly strange to be 70" didn't come to pass. 70 looks great on him.
Listening to this edition like regularly, keeps my spirits up. And appreciate Simon's work. A classic evergreen. He's got the same impish smile, I remember, he had as a youngster. Makes me feel good about the universe and me and everything and everybody in it.
Paul Simon is a great song writer. have listened to all his music over the years, I may be old but I'm alive with music, grew up with it, father was a an Accordion player, i'm learning....I'm a percussionist, love drums, and been in a band and playing 3 tamborines at one time....love music.....keep it up Paul
This song really puts a smile on my face, I love it and listen to it A LOT, it's a good way to start the day and there really is no end to Paul's talent, love the video too🤗♥️
It's 2022 now & I'm still enjoying this & all Paul Simons songs, as is my 7 mo grandson & my 5 yo mother. Yes, Paul Simon has blessed 4 generations straight, of one family, with his divinely inspired psalms that most still only hear as great tunes.
Or one could also acknowledge the musical genius of Bob Dylan, and how he sensed the direction city music would take with ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’…
The accordion is both a melodic and percussive instrument. Not unlike a marimba or a mbira in that regard, only the accordion uses air like a pump organ. It is this instruments flirtation with the bass line and kick drum that keeps the "round" driving ahead. I mean, Paul's 12 string don't hurt either ;)
If this were the 80s, there would be a superb video for this: Imagine all these guys in the band, with buddah and moses in the Line to the Gates of heaven asking eachother how to fill out the form!
He especially visited South Africa to experience the influence. He'd been given a tape by a friend of his in 1984; township jive, which is street music of Soweto... he then looked for the musicians of the music and went to spend time with them in SA. After that came Graceland.
It is 2016 now and as I understood it there will be another Paul Simon record around the corner. I might be wrong but I believe there will come out a new album this year. Hope I am right. Have your ears and eyes open!
How the hell does he know all the words and music from memory! He must have an I.Q. of about 200! It took me 3 days just to learn a 6 line poem by Thomas Shadwell. I have a completely useless memory!
Being a song writer myself I can talk for him: it's a natural thing, you just do so. With my band I constantly have people go "wha, huh?" when I bring up a piece of the lyrics from out of nowhere.
This is perhaps the best song I have ever been blessed to listen to in my life so far
.
From Kodachrome to Afterlife...
What a lovely journey!
Thank you Paul Simon and team!
I love y'all!
I love this man

11 years later, thank you for this -> "Just hearing it made me a better person. "

Best band in the world and the greatness of Paul Simon combined.......what a mind blowing experience!!
The more you listen, the better it gets.

pure perfection of music, sound and lyrics!!! can't top this one...too good!!!
This song goes deep . I feel that. Inspired and soulful
You have to be a special kind of fool to dislike the musical genius that is Paul Simon!
Heroes are forever young.
Here's mine: Paul (Frederic) Simon.
We Love You Paul ~ You are truly a master of words, and song
Üx
I love Paul Simon eternally.
😇❤😇❤

I came here after watching Paul on an SNL's What's Up With That skit where they mentioned this album. Thank you Keenan!
Another cool beat from the master.
sheer genius for sure
Paul Simon is a genius!
Superb; Mr Simon is in fine fettle. His song writing ability has not diminished either. Congrats !
Just the arrangement...Incredibly technical....Twelve String Reverb...🙌👌🙌
Go Paul Go . Real Entertainer . Always Good listening .
Jim Oblon (the drummer) representing Wallingford, CT, backing up some greats! Much respect, Jim.
A great performer and songwriter always attracts great musicians......
This song really puts a smile on my face, I love it and listen to it A LOT, it's a good way to start the day and there really is no end to Paul's talent, love the video too🤗♥️
The Afterlife is in my top 20 of Paul Simon solo songs.
I LOVE THIS SONG 😊 , I was fortunate to have seen Paul Simon sing this live back in 2011 in Detroit , at the Fox theater , great night of music 😊
He won't lose the 'vibe' even in the next life.
Paul Simon is NOT shit...he is THE shit!
Still enjoying this performance by our 'Sir' Paul, in 2020.
It's 2022 now & I'm still enjoying this & all Paul Simons songs, as is my 7 mo grandson & my 5 yo mother. Yes, Paul Simon has blessed 4 generations straight, of one family, with his divinely inspired psalms that most still only hear as great tunes.
This is how a video should be. No special effects, real music and real musicians playing.
Totally agree! ❤
what a gifted, hard working, artist! Thanks Paul.
music inspires my life.....hope it does for everyone.... HIGH 5 Paul
Paul's flow owes a lot to hip-hop, I'm sure he would acknowledge.
Or one could also acknowledge the musical genius of Bob Dylan, and how he sensed the direction city music would take with ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’…
Happy birthday mr PaulSimon! :-)
A new song is performed by Paul Simon. It is called " Wristband ". Search it up! Sounds fun!
Love this❤

Magic sound. Thank you.
They play this song at the supermarket I work at. Catchy tune.
This is Very Nice
I hear some Afrobeat (Fela) influence. Nice one, Paul!
+Ani Henri There's also a big Bo Diddley influence going on.
He especially visited South Africa to experience the influence. He'd been given a tape by a friend of his in 1984; township jive, which is street music of Soweto... he then looked for the musicians of the music and went to spend time with them in SA. After that came Graceland.
Cool band!
Amazing talented musicians here...
He's still crazy - after all these years.
What an amazing talent.....
You gotta fill out a form first, then you wait in the line!
Another one for me :D
I love this song!
impresiona gente como que siguen en la brecha...SON GENIOS
Great song
It is 2016 now and as I understood it there will be another Paul Simon record around the corner. I might be wrong but I believe there will come out a new album this year. Hope I am right. Have your ears and eyes open!
Awesome is the word!!

❤🎼
Not just Paul, the rest of them make it.
super
Greatness....
It's so relevant today as we line up for our covid shot.
Frumos!
How the hell does he know all the words and music from memory! He must have an I.Q. of about 200! It took me 3 days just to learn a 6 line poem by Thomas Shadwell. I have a completely useless memory!
Because he wrote it. And because he's frequently such a great lyricist , he'll possibly love every word. Plus much rehearsal.
He does have a high IQ, somewhere I once read it was around 155. His father had a very high IQ as well.
Being a song writer myself I can talk for him: it's a natural thing, you just do so.
With my band I constantly have people go "wha, huh?" when I bring up a piece of the lyrics from out of nowhere.
Tak tohle si nechám zahrát při zpopelnění.
brilliant
Rest forever Vincent Nguini guitar
Yes absolutely, his Music will live forever
i lov u pzul
6 people will never figure out how to fill out the form...
Oh you must listen to more. Just go get all his music. You will be pleasantly surprised
Check out his song "Hearts and Bones" or "Jonah." Extraordinary.
Same
Is this from a full gig or it's just a video for this song? This is amazing!!
+Lucas Costa: Take it from the top: Paul Simon - In Rehearsal.
Um papa doo. Just the facts man, just the facts.
dude, that's where i heard it too, i work at Publix.
Paul Simon: for he's a jolly good Fela.
Very funny lyrics, dieing is like a trip to the Divions of Moter Vechicles, you got to fill out a form first then you wait in line.
Ya gotta fill out a Form first!!! HAHAHA!
@Niimidan Looks to be E, b min, A, E. Then during verse it's E, A, b min, A, then the first progression again.
16 people hate waiting in line.
Is that the dude from Bang on a Can All Stars playing guitar?
+Adam Wasserman Yep! That guy is awesome. I love watching him play. Mark Stewart.
12 string guitar!
@edviges1 agreed
Who's got number 696?
I'm offended that the advertisement before this video was for Justin Bieber :(
Your comment is just so crazy, for real tho what was that kid Biebs or what not doing there?
I MUST DO WHATEVER IT TAKES (SHORT OF MURDER) TO BE ABLE TO SEE HIM AT THE MGM GRAND IN MAY :):):):):):)
How terribly strange to be seventy.
Does that mean Paul Simon's guitar is tuned down to C#?
why "feel likes a sneak" and not "feels like a sneak" ?
It's "No one here likes a sneak."
Cliff Hahn My bad. hoho.
d face
who are the 2 dislikes?
The accordian player is doing percussion....yeah, UR kidding me....
Nonsense. Simon and Garfunkel were great together, but simon can do fine on his own. Graceland being the prime example!
I can’t get the meaning of this song.
For info. on how to attain eternal security, go to intouch.org.
Not the same without The Wing Man....sorry :(
Great song but is everyone's instrument turned on. It's small army there!!!!
