    One of my favorite Queen songs this one really gets your blood pumping, it's hard to believe how sick he was when they made this song. Notice he didn't use his classic half microphone stand and moved mostly in place because by then he had lost almost half of his foot. He was in a lot of pain but still gave it everything he had for his fans. He loved us as much as we loved him.

    This rocker was written by Brian May - inspired by his 2nd wife Anita Dobson (an English actress who, at the time, was the leading lady on the tv show EastEnders), who said “I want it all and I want it now” about her acting ambitions.

    • @jaidenobrien
      @jaidenobrien Před 2 lety +5

      It was my understanding that Anita said "I want it all, and I want it now," when she went to a Queen concert, and was amazed at at the reception that Queen received during the show, seeing how loved and talented the band was. I could be wrong about the origin but that is just what I remember hearing or reading.

    Queen had taken a break after their 1986 album 'A kind of magic' and tour that year... So, it was 3 years later that Queen reappeared w/ this single and the album 'The Miracle' in 1989... There were persistent rumors that Freddie was afflicted w/ AIDS, but the band and Freddie denied those claims. However, the rumors persisted when Queen did not tour for 'The Miracle'... and only appeared in music videos.
    We now know that Freddie Mercury was seriously ill and when this video was shot, he could not move like he used to on stage... he wore baggy clothing to hide his physique (he wore flamboyant clothing in the past) Some of the songs he wrote lyrics for on the record were ominous, like he was considering the end of his life.
    Years later, the members of Queen revealed that Freddie was diagnosed in 1987 w/ AIDS, and would not want to talk about it... Freddie just wanted to work on new music for as long as he could. They completed 2 albums - 'The Miracle' and 'Innuendo' by 1991. It was a long process to write & record cos Freddie could not work for too long in the studio when he was ill. He appeared in the music video for 'These are the days of our lives' by Queen, and he was thin and frail by that point, and did not look well - that was his final appearance.
    But Freddie kept recording vocals into 1991 until he couldn't anymore... he returned home to England in failing health and died in November 1991, after releasing a statement that he was HIV positive. His final vocal tracks were completed after his death and released in 1995 as Queen's final album 'Made in heaven'.

  • @valogden

    Freddie Mercury was amazing and so missed. A band of incredible singers and song writers. As a teen in the 70s they were my favorite band and still are. I never got a chance to see them live and hopefully they will tour the US next year. I want to go with my kids and granddaughter to share in the incredible music they created. Adam Lambert who has been their front man for 10 years now has a different vocal tone; he's a tenor and Freddie was a baritone; but does a good job of paying his respect to Freddie. This band is an arena band. You want to see them with a crowd. Always ready to watch Queen. Check out Adam Lambert as well. Brian May and Roger Taylor from Queen call him the Gift from God and the best voice out there. There's the video of him singing her song Believe to Cher at The Kennedy Center Honors and has her in tears. I really like his songs Closer to You (live sessions), Ghost Town, Time for Miracles and Whataya Want From Me to start. He has a great solo career besides working with Queen. Who Wants to Live Forever at the Isle of Wight festival with Queen + Adam Lambert is unforgettable.

    • @jaidenobrien
      @jaidenobrien Před 2 lety +3

      Saying someone is a great singer is always subjective. Of course, everyone has their own idea of who is a great singer, or who is the best. However, for me, although Adam has admitted that he is not attempting to replace Freddie, or fill his shoes, listening to or watching Queen with Adam Lambert is just not very enjoyable to me. I admit that Adam is a great singer, but when I hear or watch Queen videos or music, it is just not the same for me with Adam singing lead, because in my mind at least, I associate Queen with only Freddie Mercury as the only true front man for the band. So again, while Adam is a great singer, Queen is never the same to me without Freddie Mercury singing lead vocals. Again, I admit that it is all subjective, and everyone has their own opinions, this is just my opinion.

    • @valogden
      @valogden Před 2 lety

      Totally respect your opinion. I have enjoyed watching people react to Adam for the first time. I think his voice is incredible and I have to admit it surprised me when I first heard him. I really just happened on his video singing to Cher a few months ago and was so impressed I took a deep dive into his music. I didn't know Queen were even touring again. I watched the documentary on Netflix The Show Must Go On and I respect Roger and Brian's choice of deciding to tour again and picking someone that isn't a Freddie imitator. There are tribute bands that do that. I know they said they can't be Queen anymore because Freddie and John aren't with them so that is why they go as Queen+ Adam Lambert. They are both in their 70s and Brian has had some health issues. They said they're going to tour as long as they're having fun. I miss Freddie but I would still want to see Brian and Roger while I still can. That's the great thing about music. I really would like to see Adam on one of his solo shows. I have read often that he sounds great on his videos but he always sounds better live. There are songs with Queen that he sings that are amazing like Who Wants to Live Forever and The Show Must Go On and others that are good but you still hear Freddie singing them in your head. Music is just hopefully about respect. I even have to respect the music my granddaughter likes and put some of her favorites on my playlist when we have parties lol. Not a fan of Slipknot etc but respect.

    According to John Deacon, the song was one of only a few which was already written before the band entered the studio beginning 1988 for what would become The Miracle album. “We were heading into the period where we decided to share the credit for all the songs … “ - Brian May. Fun fact: the song was used in the 2013 movie Despicable Me 2 .. Love the Queen Minions 😂😂 💝

    Brian wrote this song based on a catchphrase from his 2nd wife, Anita Dobson, "I want it all and I want it now!" Brian claims that the song is about having ambitions and fighting for one’s own goals; because of this, the song became an anti-apartheid song in South Africa and has also been used as a gay rights protest theme and a rallying anthem for African-American youth.
