Thank u for providing a great review. I was going to save for a more expensive gimble, however it does everything the expensive gimble does and more. The motion tracking is amazing.

    Before buying for the AI tracking feature, be aware of some significant limitations: if the light is less than full daylight, it will tend to lose the subject; subject needs to be fairly close, about 5 meters or less or it will tend to lose the subject (only wide-angle with this for tracking); if subject has a helmet or other gear, it may have trouble "seeing" your start/stop signals; if subject turns around, it may lose the subject; it will not re-acquire the subject once it's been lost as some of the app-based trackers can do. This is good more for close-in work indoors or outside daytime probably with a camera operator.

    This is amazing! I have recently started using activetrack on my DJI Ronin SC (great gimbal for the price.) The only downside is its super cumbersome to balance your phone on top of the hot shoe, then you have to ensure sure three items are charged (phone, camera, gimbal), connect the phone to gimbal via bluetooth, and (if filming yourself) you can't see what's on the phone screen to identify and start tracking yourself. I dug around for a while hoping that DJI had a solution to this, and it appears that their best solution is the "Raveneye" transmission system which takes an hdmi feed from your camera, connects to a phone via wifi, phone connected to the gimbal via bluetooth (talk about an EMF nightmare.) The raveneye also only works with their higher end models, not the Ronin SC. The built in camera/sensor and AI features on this rig solves all of that for me. And at a price point under $300 I will definitely be giving it a go!

    For the price on Amazon, this is a nice gimbal. However, from what I've seen online, the Ronin SC or really anything DJI is recommended as a starting point with the Ronin SC being the cheapest one and the Ronin RSC2 being next up in the lineup. Then after your gimbal, you can get a counterweight/counterbalance and upgraded handle or dual grips of needed. The problem with the DJI that the Hohem tries to solve is that they give you an "AI camera" for object focus tracking, something DJI relies on a smartphone for. Most cinematographers in the DJI Ronin gimbal ecosystem won't need or want an "AI camera" on their gimbal because they likely have a smartphone they can use for the DJI Ronin app. This Hohem gimbal is not rated all that great on Amazon. It is said to be glitchy and the movements when tracking isn't smooth and precise. I'd stick to DJI where it is a known good brand and it just works well and can be serviced and repaired and you can get spare parts and upgrades when needed.

    I think a real limitation is that, while there are many cameras well within its advertised weight carrying capacity, many of them are outside the size they specify as maximum. This seems to be aimed at cameras around the size of a Sony ZV-E10. At least they do specify the size. Just be sure to note it before buying.

  • @Chaelaz

    The framing is really of interest to me. As an old school camera operator I always prided myself on keeping the subject movement going to the open space appropriately, but all the auto tracking I have seen to this point has the subject almost walking off screen before starting it's movement, so they are always closer to the edge. I mean, at the price points these gimbals are, and without any really fast motion, it is a great feature as a solo shooter to do some more natural camera movement for shots. And they are moving in the right direction (pun intended) for better framed tracking, so pretty cool overall.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  Před 9 měsíci

      I was using the a6700 and the sigma 18-50. So basically the same setup. I was mindful that the gimbal has no idea what the camera is seeing, so I may have been working with that in mind from the start. Your video is nice. but I have a pro tips for You.
    1. Add a small headlight to distinguish yourself from the background and enhance the depth of field.
    2. The headroom needs to be wider than it currently is. In this video, there's virtually no headroom, and some of your hair is getting cut off.
    3. Consider capturing a series of B-roll shots. Since you're discussing the Gimbal, it's important to demonstrate its capabilities by showing the audience a variety of shots featuring the Gimbal in action.

      Bigger up and down movements are poor gimbal technique, smaller ones/jitters are generally gimbal performance. I am not using an ND filter, so you might also be seeing the lack of motion blur, which can make the image look jumpy, especially when panning.

    • @ViktorStudiosOficial
      @ViktorStudiosOficial Před 10 měsíci

      The gimbal stabilization is not the best. It doesn´s shake or anything, i fact if left on the floor it is rock solid, but if you move without proper ninja walk, there are small jitters, which i suspect are related to the stabilization algorithm, becouse the motors are powerfull enough for medium size cameras. Hopefully they can adress that with firmware updates, but I don´t have very high hopes.

    • @ViktorStudiosOficial

      I haven´t tried it with a helmet, but it should work, as it is tracking the body once it picks up the "ok" sign. It track you even if you have your back turn on it. I tried to hide from it behind a shelf for a second and it stops tracking, but regain track immediately after me reapearing in the frame. Yes, you can pass by and behind objects, no problem. I’m not sure how long you could “hide” behind something, but you can bass behind stuff for sure.

    I have a Zhiyun Crane M2S and a Canon M6 Mark II and I find the M2S to be a little underpowered for the M6 Mark II, especially when I want to use one of the "larger" lens for the camera. So I'm looking to upgrade to a more powerful gimbal. I love the idea of AI tracking. That would help me out a lot because I don't have a lot of experience, but I don't want to trade one underpowered gimbal for another underpowered gimbal. (Both gimbals list the M6 Mark II as supported, heck the Hohem seems like it supports the M6 Mark II better than the Zhiyun. That being said, supported with the pancake lens is different than supporting it with a larger lens.)
    So, will the Hohem MT2 handle my M6 Mark II better than the Zhiyan Crane M2S??
    Also, how is the ease of balancing? The sliders on the M2S make balancing a bit of a challenge. Is the MT2 any better?

    • @gdub7360
      @gdub7360 Před 7 měsíci

      The payload on the Crane M2S is 2.15lbs so it's for smaller and lighter setups. The iSteady MT2 is for up to 2.6lbs so it supports a tad more. Weigh your camera with the lenses you usually use and see how close you're getting to those limits.

    This gimbal looks very cool.
    Here's a question: can its AI follow just hands? I'm bored of static framing and thinking about cooking and tech show where only hands are visible in the frame? The case would be to follow the hands but have an imposed movement range so the camera doesn't go further, it's to avoid filming outside of the decor.
    A LIMIT | range of following the hands | B LIMIT.

    • @ViktorStudiosOficial
      @ViktorStudiosOficial Před 10 měsíci +2

      No, from my experience it follows the "center of mass" of your body, accounting for the additional framing. It cannot follow hands specifically

    Yey, I just bought the second one, using your link (and discount code... thank you very much). BTW, which Gimbal would you think would be the best candidate for an M-50 mkII with a small prompter that would take the iPhone 14 pro as a screen? Prompter would most likely be attached to the kit lens, for selfie walkaround shots. I tried doing that with this gimbal, but it cannot handle the weight as I cannot even perform the balancing calibration.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  Před 10 měsíci +2

I'm thinking about starting the video and looking for a gimbal, this looks like an excellent choice for beginners.. but my camera is an x-t3.. and I'm not sure if it would work well with it. regards, Paul

      Yes, it will work depending on the lens you mount. Look for the weight specifications of the camera+lens if it is bellow 1200-1300 gr, it will work, unless its a very long lens tha you cannot balance. The maximum I managed to balance is a Sony a7IV+Samyang 135 mm 1.8 which is 1430 gr (230 gr over max spec)
