      @@jaeb5786 Same for me also. I am exhausted because I am the only one putting in any effort with getting our new puppy trained. I give instruction what needs to be done but when I take over I find out my husband didn't do any of the things I asked him to do. It's like taking one step forward and two steps back. I think it is hard for my husband because we haven't had a puppy in 12 years. It has been very difficult for me.

      My husband used to lie and say he'd taken our girl out when he got home from work. She was making puddles and he was saying he didn't know why. When I found out, I was furious. The dog had been disciplined and even take to the vet a few times to figure the problem out. I taught my girl to bark at him, to shake his pant leg and, if all else failed, to come and get me. I also took her out as late as I possibly could and just assumed my husband was not going to be any help. I also put pads down on the porch for her, which as a self house-trained dog, was mortifying for her. You just have to make sure the dog is better trained than your husband. I completely sympathize with you.

(My fault) He is consistently going potty outside, and we’ve already learnt drop it and wait for food. (Still needs practice) He’ll be joining puppy school next week, and we practice everyday. Also redirecting his biting has helped so much too and hes learning to stop biting the bed base.

I feel like all these training channels use already well trained puppies when showing us. Because believe me my pups none stop chews his house line then when I get his line or lead he does a role on the floor to get it. The house line will help. If not you'll have to stick her tuchus in a crate. If she can't behave she doesn't get the freedom. If she cries, don't feel bad for her, too bad so sad for a bad dog. 🤷‍♀️
      When she's out of her crate, it's you're responsibility to train her manners.

    bit of a throwback to an earlier video but maybe all you guys can help. We are about to pick up our first puppy and had a question in regards to crate training overnight. When it comes to having the puppy in it's crate overnight what is the realistic expectation? i mean in terms of the length of time they can (happily) stay in there? i appreciate this could be different for each dog. My wife and I tend to head to bed around 2230 and are usually up by no later than 7am. Is it cruel to expect our puppy to adapt to these time schedules?

    Let me tell you....Any time you get a new dog, puppy, it doesn’t matter the age. Put a house line on that dog.
    Last January I rescued a 1 year old GSD. Didn’t know it at the time, but the dog was neurotic and had not been trained as well as the rescue had indicated. I worked very hard to get her trained up and she responded very well. Even my vet was surprised by her improvement. One day my sister came by our home to drop off a package. My sister had just been by our home before and talked with Bella and Bella was fine with her. However, on this particular day when my sister came by I told Bella to go to her place. She did and stayed there. I turned my back to walk away. Bella saw my sister and started toward her to attack. If I had not stepped on the house line my sister would have been bitten. Bella refused to respond to the leave it command. She did not hear a word I said. All she wanted to do was get to my sister. Someone she had seen before and had no problem. Thank God that my trainer friend had told me about using a house line.
    BTW, we had to return Bella back to the rescue as she had underlying issues of which we had not been made aware prior to adoption.

    • @kylasbibi
      @kylasbibi Před 2 lety +2

      @MRSCMB89 You know, I saved my sister from being bitten. What I didn’t put in my post was the dog also growled at my grandson for just standing there. That dog went back to the rescue where it belonged. If the previous owners and the rescue had been honest and disclosed to me the real reasons why they were giving her up, I would have never adopted that dog. Save your recriminations for someone who gives a damn about what you think. Understand this…I will NEVER put a dog above the safety of a child or any human and if you do, then shame on you!

      @tommeteor3502 Před 3 lety

      I’m not an expert, but I would guess that it doesn’t really matter as long as it’s long enough that you have a relatively easy time grabbing a hold of it in a moment’s notice. The point is to have something to help control/redirect the pup a bit so they don’t get into any trouble while they have some limited freedom in the home; biting something they shouldn’t be, hiding under tables/couches, trying to take off on a run, etc. Hope this helps!

    My 6 month old rescue puppy came to me sick and I neglected the house line. He is 6 months old now and runs away from me when he gets into things he knows he shouldn't. Should I implement a house line immediately or is his learned behavior needing something else at this point.? I'm wondering if I should discontinue going to the dog park because he jumps all over EVERYONE. I have way less control there. I've been taking him there because he is high energy and not the energy level that the rescue thought he would be. (I live in an apartment, three flights up, with no fenced in areas other than the dog park (5 min away drive). THANK YOU in advance if you come across this and can give me some pointers!

    How old should the dog be when you remove the house line?

    I'm going on day 3 of puppy training and my puppy isn't food motivated. Which has thrown off a lot of my plans. Any suggestions?

    Can the line be use on a harness rather then a collar..or should it be on a collar.

      I am definitely not a pro, but I suspect a collar is essential. You can watch how they use the collar in some of the videos on nipping and biting. Having a collar on allows you to control a dog's head in a way that isn't possible with a harness (which is more anchored to the chest).

    I just got a black lab puppy and he’s only 6 weeks. It takes him a while to eat a training treat. What’s the best age to start training? He doesn’t seem interested at all and it’s hard to get his attention.

    can you use a house line if you have two twin puppies? I worry that they will use it to pull each other

      I have two 5 month old puppies at home, and they're litter mates. The house line works pretty well, even with two of them. Occasionally they want to use their siblings line as a toy, but more for pulling than chewing.

    I can’t seem to redirect and lure my 8 week pup. Just got her 2 days ago and am trying to use these techniques when she chews the house line. I’ve been using her food and the lure as well as high value treats. I can’t seem to redirect her. Any suggestions?

      Sometimes you just have to pull it out of their mouth. Another tip is to take their upper lip and press it into their teeth so they'll let go.
      You can't really make a big stink out of it, just give them something else to play with and make them happy and they'll learn at some point. Can't blame then too much, they only been on this earth for 8 weeks.

      I’ve been on this earth for 48 years and I still chew on stuff. I grind my teeth a lot, too.
      In short, I’m still kinda skittish.

    I tried rewarding with food but it doesn't mean anything to a non food driven pup, ended up using a slip leash and correction to stop him chewing. Worked quicker than redirection. NEVER BE AFRAID TO TELL YOUR DOG FIRMLY NO.

    I just brought my puppy home and she seems to not know how to eat from my hand no mater what I do. She will eat from her bowl though. How do I teach her to eat from my hand so I can train her?

    My problem with the house line is that it drags between my puppy’s legs when he walks so when he has an accident he pees directly on the house line and then proceeds to drag it around the room while my wife and I try to catch him. So instead of cleaning one spot we end up having to mop the whole room (as well as clean the leash).

      Seems like you need to work on potty training primarily and it shouldn't be an issue, try keeping a journal of how often he has to pee, how long after drinking water, and make sure to take breaks during playtime to bring him to pee
