Volkl Cyclone is one of the most hyped strings I can remember. Typically with these reviews I try to focus on performance and not preface everything on cost but in this case it is worth pointing out that Cyclone often ranks #1 on peoples value for money list. This string would rate highly on mine as well. It is a great bargain string that I think would suite a lot of players better than say an RPM Blast or other strings that are considered “elite poly.” I’m not saying objectively cyclone is better just that it’s playing attributes would benefit a lot of 3.5-4.5 players. It’s softer, feels crisper, and is a more powerful string that plays well for a surprisingly long amount of time. I played with this one until it broke which is rare for me. A little too much inherent power for my game but again when picking a string you need to think about your style of play not mine. Chris is definitely a relatively soft feeling spin machine that packs a punch.

I have been using Cyclone 17g for a few weeks now and every time I string it up, I had the same experience you did. The 1st session after stringing is terrible, but then every session after that is amazing. Obviously, for whatever reason, this string comes off the stringer kind of stiff with minimal ball pocketing which for me causes everything to sail on the 1st session. Like a switch, the spin, feel, and control that you expect comes to life and is above average in all aspects for subsequent sessions.

Been waiting for this review... how does this stack against hyper g? And which one do you prefer?

amazing how your review matched my experience, like 100%.
So this was a bit too powerful for me, Im using now tour bite, but its just too stiff, and I actually prefer the ball pocketing and feel of the Cyclone. Do you know any strings that fit between those 2? Less powerful than Cyclone but softer and with more feel than Tour bite?
Maybe the Head lynx? I know hyperg is good option but I wanted a cheaper one lol. Thanks!

Hey. Brian. I had the same experience with the string during the first day of stringing it. Next, it felt great. Pretty weird. You are not the only one.

Interesting you talk about a break in process for this string. I found that I got a sharp shoulder pain after playing with a racquet newly strung with black Cyclone. Now it was in a new racquet I never played before and I did string at a higher tension than I normally do, but it wasn't crazy (52 lbs). So at this stage, I'm unsure if it's the string, racquet or tension that's causing it.

How does it compare to Yonex Polytour pro 125? Thanks

hey, can you help me out?
Im using a 18x20 racquet and had Babolat pro hurricane 57lbs on it. Loved the control it gave me, was just insane.
But I wanted a little bit more pop and spin, and a string that tives me a little bit more pocketing . So I gave cyclone 17g a try with 50lbs and toooo much power. Couldnt even play with it! I play kinda flat and agressive so I need a control string
The spin and pocketing was perfect, what I was looking for actually, but just too much power. Im going to try the 16G and bump the tension to 58 or 60 maybe
Do you think it will play ok? I think I should have just changed strings and not lowering the tension on the first place
Cyclone already gives what I was looking for ( feel, spin and power)
This is unfortunate because I loved the spin and feel much more than the Pro hurricane, but I cant play lacking that much control
    thanks a lot!! Subscribed

Yeah for me that drop to 50lbs was your critical mistake given that cyclone is already softer than hurricane. I would go 16g 57lbs just like you had with hurricane than if you feel too much power bump up the tension to 59lbs the next time around.
