- OnX Maps has led the hunting world in mobile, app-based navigation for the hunter or outdoorsman, but recently goHUNT released their own mapping system to the hunting world. Adding to their industry leading hunt draw statistics and hand-picked gear shop, goHUNT Insiders now have access to both desktop and mobile mapping services. But, who's better...goHUNT or OnXMaps? That's the question I'll answer in this video!
UPDATE: I've recently partnered with GOHUNT and now have a code to offer y'all if you sign up for an Explorer or Insider membership!
Head over to gohunt.com and use the code LATE at checkout and you'll get instant credit to the gear shop - $20 for an Explorer membership and $50 for an Insider.

Thank you sir! Clear and to the point. I think for the price point alone and as a beginner I’m leaning toward onX but good to know if I get more serious that the other option is available.
Also as an AZ native myself, you got my sub! Grew up in Chandler!
Great info Eric. I currently have both platforms, but will be consolidating down to one. 😉
More detailed topos would be much appreciated. Got cliffed out a few times even when the topo looked not too bad. Would have been pretty dangerous with meat on our backs. Had to climb and insane hill to get around it instead of going all the way back up the mountain.
Hey Eric, just stumbled on your channel, I definitely share the same attitude toward fitness, hunting, and just outdoors in general. Plus, I love anything with not only an office reference, but double that with sandlot lol!! Anyway, just wondering if your still favoring gohunt after some time has passed. I’ve been an onx elite guy for everything from western hunting, to Ohio whitetail. I’m a huge fan of the gohunt platform however, and have been considering the switch. Any thoughts or regrets?? Thanks, hopefully this draw season landed you some tags!
Great comparison!
Thanks!
I had a bad experience with the compass on OnX as well. I went walking into the marshes in a southward direction, or so I thought. Walked for about 30 minutes before I started wondering where the hell I was. The area is perfectly flat with very few terrain features, especially when it's dark. By then, my phone couldn't pick up my location for some reason. Walked for another 15 minutes before the sun started coming up and then realized I was headed east the whole time. Rough day. Bought a real compass. What a dummy 🤣.
I switched. Features on the desktop for gohunt are much higher imo to onX. Gohunt changed the game! 😃👍🏻
Does go hunt sync with Garmin inreach devices?
Good stuff!
Thanks!
is not your position GPS tracked ? how could they send you in the wrong direction ? I hunt in the east and my most wanted feature is clear lot lines with landowner contact info. Does goHUNT do that as well as OnX?
Does this app give you the name of each landowner and show boundary's of each block/lot. I need a app that gives information and shows boundaries with owners name. I hope that makes sense. That way I will know who owns the land. Thanks
Completely accurate also ox gives 50% discount to military for duration of subscription another thing to consider. If you’re former or current military
Oh wow, I didn't even know that about the military discount...so cool! Thanks for sharing!!
@@LatetotheGameOutdoors I just signed up for onx I tried BaseMap last year and they just updated their app without warning anyone and deleted ALL my maps in 4 states ..so pissed so I switched they told me discount is for every year for duration. For 43years I always just used paper maps and compass and had old garmin gps for backup. I’ll watch go hunt maps for a year and then maybe try it when I sign up to insider
That's so frustrating! Good luck out there!
I think your referring to the ONX walk of shame....I have made that walk more than once, nothing is more flustering than packing 80 pounds of meat in the dark a few miles when your going off course a few hundred yards at a time. It's the reason I clicked to see if you had brought up this very flustering issue and subbed to your channel because I think you nailed the comparison.
Ah yes, the walk of shame...it'll ruin your day in a hurry. Thanks for the sub and your kind words!
Get gps essentials. Free great for directions.
What are the topo lines amount for each hunting center north Carolina Rather flat
The only thing missing from GoHunt maps is…the roadless layer which I see as an essential tool.
That's a fair point, though it seems like goHUNT is constantly fixing bugs and adding features, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that show up in the app one day.
Try basemap too!
OnX by far. You still have to grid map for offline use with gohunt. With gohunt I tried to download bigger areas but the app kept saying zoom in. So it still made me grid map an area.
Honorable mentions…Hoyt vs Mathews. Vortex vs Leupold. Kuiu vs Sitka. Lone wolf vs XOP. All classic rivalries
I might have to do some of those comparisons :)
Nothing beats a Bowtech
Might be a silly question, but does GoHunt have the private landowner information like OnX? I like that I am able to see who owns what, and make sure I'm not breaking laws.
They do
*No one here even talking about the BaseMap app. Handsdown the best high res imagery, cheaper, and more features!*
I've had a few people mention that to me. Honestly, I haven't used it, but I have a good friend that I trust implicitly who spent some time with that platform and had a terrible experience. Perhaps they've improved since then (it was a couple years ago), but his experience caused me to write them off. Wasn't trying to leave them out, but GOHUNT and OnX are the two big competitors in the circles I roll in.
I started with OnX and tried BaseMap for a while. Hated there mobile app. They’ll I did like it for desktop escouting but I found that BaseMap in the field crashed a lot and wasn’t nearly as intuitive as OnX. I since dropped BaseMap and kept with OnX. I would like to try GoHunt though for much of the same reasons pointed out in this video.
Onx maps elite members get a free toprut membership for draw odds
That is absolutely true.
Gohunt sorriest map on my phone . Won't download won't track
I used onxmaps for a long time and tried other maps as well. I would onxmaps is the most user-friendly. Onxmaps shows more types of public compared to others I have tried. Onxmaps imagery is not the greatest.
Do you still think go hunt is better app 2023-24
No BaseMap? Hmmmm. 😂
I know...I didn't wanna muddy the waters too much with the third major option out there. Maybe it's just me and my buddies, but everyone I know is either using OnX or goHUNT
@@LatetotheGameOutdoors basemap and huntstand are both superior products IMO. but i agree onx and gohunt probably have better marketing and are more popular because of it.
Iv watched the gohunt guys a few times, and they seem like arrogant hipsters. So I will not be switching. I have heard both basemap and gohunt are better than onx
What about property lines. Your a gohunt freak. Your trying to sell go hunt what about active fire feachers gohunt doesn't do it for me it's about public vs private. Not 3D looks cool map
They absolutely have property lines...sorry if that wasn't clear, I just figured it was a given that both of them would have to do that to be viable in the marketplace.
You know, people use to hunt successfully without GPS, I'm good with what I got....Schill.
People also used to hunt without written language so maybe shhhh
Why would you pay more for goHUNT when you can get it done with OnXmaps for much cheaper
I would argue that GOHUNT's maps membership that gives all 50 states for $50/year would be considered cheaper than the OnX Premium membership (which I think is at least twice as much right now)
