Planning Hunting Season For Families (using GOHUNT Insider)
The more hunters you have in your family, the harder it becomes to effectively plan for hunting season. You may be hunting multiple species in multiple states, everyone in the family has different numbers of points stored up, or different hunts they want to pursue. How can you strategically and effectively plan for everyone to hunt as much as they want without creating a massive scheduling headache?
In this video, I walk through the process I use and the way I navigate GOHUNT Insider as I plan for the Fall with four hunters under my roof. I talk through the priority matrix I use to make some of these decisions, and then the helpful tools GOHUNT has built into their platform that make this kind of multi-state planning pretty simple.
If you're not a GOHUNT Insider yet, you can use this link to score $50 in credit to the gear shop when you sign up: www.gohunt.com/user/register?plan=insider&promo=LATE
Also, if you're a newer hunter (or want to give the new hunters in your family a head start), check out my book written specifically for new hunters: latetothegameoutdoors.com/howtohuntbook

Spotting Scopes for Hunting (Do you even need one?)
zhlédnutí 5KPřed rokem
A spotting scope is one of the most expensive pieces of optics a hunter could ever buy, so you want to make sure you're choosing one that will actually help you hunt better. I hunted without a spotting scope for years, then I finally bought one...then I bought another. You can absolutely have a successful hunt with nothing more than a good pair of binoculars. But, if you're gonna spend a bunch ...
2023 Rifle Coues Deer Hunt (Father & Sons)
zhlédnutí 2,2KPřed rokem
This is an Arizona Coues Deer hunt with my two sons in Arizona. My oldest son had a great rifle tag, my middle son is just coming of age and wanted to tag along, and I was there to make sure we had a good time. The weather was freezing the whole time, and we put on more miles than we initially planned to, but we did turn up a handful of deer and made memories that will last a lifetime. If you'r...
How to Teach Kids to Hunt (Everything I did wrong over the years)
zhlédnutí 561Před rokem
It can be extremely daunting to try and teach your kids how to hunt. There's the safety component, proper shooting technique, getting them outfitted with the right gear, and that doesn't even include getting them within shooting range of an animal and hoping they make a clean, ethical shot. Over the years, I've made a ton of mistakes when it came to getting my son into hunting, and in this vide...
Arizona Elk Hunt | Youth Cow Tag

I've spent years working to teach my kids how to hunt, and until this year we've had several great hunting adventures for javelina and mule deer, but my oldest son had yet to fill his tag. Well, in 2022 he finally drew the AZ youth cow elk tag, which meant he'd be hunting elk in a terrific unit with his rifle. The bulls were still bugling and even fighting to protect their herds, and we had ple...
Archery Antelope Hunt | Arizona (2022)

After 13 years of building points, I finally drew an archery antelope tag in my home state of Arizona. I knew hunting these speed goats was gonna be tricky, but I didn't know I'd face one setback after another. Eventually, it all came together and I was able to get two arrows into an antelope buck. Unfortunately, my bad luck wasn't done yet, and I began a grueling tracking process to try and fi...
E Scouting for Antelope with goHUNT Maps

This video walks through the whole process I used to draw my archery antelope tag in Arizona, e-scout the area using goHUNT and their amazing tools, and how I used goHUNT maps in the field to actually find antelope. With their draw odds in my favor, I located the hunt and unit I should apply for. Then when I went up to scout with boots on the ground, I could mark water tanks, glassing points fo...

This is my backcountry bear hunt from the spring of 2022. My buddy, Josh, and I packed in 6 miles to a remote ridge in a vast wilderness to do some bear hunting. My fist 2 hunts were with my brother inlaw, he was helping me get started. Since then ive been solo hunting for the last 7 years. Lucky enough to have a hunt every year except 1. Ahh the first night alone that is was crazy scary for me . Being Navajo and growing up with the skinwalkers stories and my own encounters. Still have to break that mentality wall every first night of the season. Then it becomes fun again.

Trained my hand and now I can constantly shoot that bow without torque. There's not enough people talking about this online.

I will bring my kid’s favourite toy and after the watermelon demo ask which gun is ok to shoot the toy with and which would be a bad idea, then tease a little about the real gun to drive it into them No, No, No way would anybody point a firearm at anything they don’t intend to destroy. I really appreciated the analysis from a highly experienced hunter. I use to see a lot of comparisons of very different types of binoculars or different companies. My concerns were details of how the glass performed in comparison. Your videos helped out. I think you answered a big question: “Is more expensive glass worth it?” Yes if you use it often enough and are dependent on it enough.

Used to go 12-18 miles, not necessary. I just built a firearm for this purpose. Here’s the recipe Defiance Anti LA Mag 1360 Proof CF 7mm Rem Mag 752 Red Hawk BDL bottom metal. 208 TriggerTech set @ 1.5 lbs 175 Mess Altitude CF stock 575 It’s weighing at 6.2 lbs. for the rifle. Add Arken rings @ 65 and a Leupold VX 5 HD 3-15x44 @ 900 Arca rail 95 $4135 invested. Scoped and out the door weight is 7.75 lbs. Ok as to money here’s my learning curve. Buy a factory gun- upgrade stock then trigger then have action squared and upgrade barrel. Now you’re accumulated the same financial outlay but you STILL have a factory action. With most custom actions the tolerances are so tight that barrel makers can build pre fit barrels that will headspace perfectly. This means you don’t have to pay for an action job at around $250 and a gunsmith $400 to cut your chamber and threads and headspace it. Because once you’re opened the factory threads by recutting them you can no longer use prefits. You’ve just locked yourself into the gunsmith route forever. Here’s where you save money- on your next caliber. You don’t have to buy an entire another gun you simply buy another prefit barrel in another caliber. It takes 5 minutes to swap out barrels and you are still shooting the same setup you’re used to with the first caliber. My next caliber will be the 6.5 PRC and the gun will be the same components with just a different caliber. Now you don’t need 2 actions, stocks, triggers and bottom metal, scopes and rings. I watch for the annual sales and will grab a Proof barrel at about $750 So now I’m still a one gun guy. Just two barrels! That’s not cheating right? The heart of this build is the Defiance Anti as it only weighs 23 ounces which is a full 13 less than most custom actions out there. The CF barrel shaves a pound as does the CF stock. I put it together in my garage with a barrel vice, action wrench and headspace gages.
