As someone who worked in restaurants for 15 years, both back and front of house, these crazy hijinks aren't far off...
I'm a retired chef and I couldn't agree more, this movie was pretty accurate. The over the top mishandling of food is exaggerated (mostly) but everything else is pretty spot on, especially if you worked in smaller restaurants. I only did front of the house work for a year while I was looking for culinary work. I really did not like dealing with the costumers directly. People are garbage. lol
Agree 💯😬
Also agree, the unwritten rule is a thing and also the people who "hate" the job, but stay
All true in every restaurant or pub, hotel worked lol
I worked in restaurants in the mid-2000s, and I can confirm this movie is damn near spot on.
I’ve been a cook/server/barista for 25+ years & yeah, it’s fairly close🤣
You have no idea how happy this makes me that someone is finally watching this. It’s in my top 10 all time.
Yes!
@@Edd25164605 it's the GOAT!
yep top 10
Dude no kidding. My fav raunchy comedy.
hilarious still
Super underrated comedy. Laughed my ass off when i first watched this. Ryan Reynolds is the best. Check out Van Wilder if you have never seen it. Ryan is hilarious in that movie as well.
Yes Van Wilder!!!!!
Yes that’s another underrated classic from Ryan Reynolds
Super Troopers
Captain O'Hagan: I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans." Mac: Hey Farva what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks? Farva: You mean Shenanigans?
I’ve always wondered if super troopers and waiting take place in the same universe
I knew someone else would beat me to it😎
PUT THOSE AWAY !!!
@@celsovera91 i hope it does.
I noticed that for the first time watching this reaction and I love both of those movies. It has to be at least an intentional reference of some sort.
As a retired chef let me saying, If you've never worked in a kitchen before this movie is not very exaggerated. Sure, the gross mishandling of food is pretty off the charts but ultimately its not as bad as you think. Just remember the golden rule, never fuck with the people who make your food. I remember have to fire and call the cops on a prep cook who I caught in the walk-in fridge pissing in a pickle jar and putting in back on the shelf. Anyway, everything else, the jokes, raunchy language, drugs, and rage are pretty spot on.
I was a chef for a decade, we wouldn't add anything despicable to food but we made sure that anyone who insulted one of our front of house staff would get the "runt of the litter" when it came to food, that one steak that was a few ounces smaller than the rest, or the dry wrinkled fries that had spent too long under the heat lamp. We chefs have a love/hate relationship with those that work front of house because they occasionally fuck up an order and then take it out on you and expect you to be able to fix it within 60 seconds, but if you insult one of them you incur the wrath of the whole kitchen. Chefs are very protective of servers, don't fuck with our family. 🤣
I got lucky with my only restaurant experience because our manager had zero patience for bad customers. As in, he'd tell people to piss off when they got loud or rude. As in, he'd exaggerate and outright lie if corporate actually called. Good times.
Fuckin A!!!
Three cardinal rules of restaurants:
-Never go within an hour of closing;
-Never send food back; and
-Never disrespect your server.
Between this and Accepted, Justin Long did a lot to make me feel better about graduating high school and going to Community College with no clue about what I wanted to do😂😂😂
Just be a porn star like brandon st randy
I was exactly their characters' age when this came out and I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally connected with that situation.
I've worked in a restaurant off and on since I was 14, mostly serving. This movie is the most faithful adaptation of working in the food service industry I've seen 😂😂
I literally went back to serving because of this movie. It reminded me about the fun part.
Finally!!!! Someone is reacting to this gem!!!😂😂😂
I have never clicked on a video so fast.
I worked as a server for almost ten years. This movie is completely accurate.
Anyone who has worked in a restaurant agrees!
Ha. I worked on a movie with Justin long around this time (the Sasquatch gang). After the shoot, I still had his number in my phone. So New Year’s Eve that year, I was dog sitting for these super rich people, alone (and pretty drunk) in their huge house. around midnight I went to call my friend Justin (not long), and accidentally hit Justin long’s number instead. It took me a moment to realize it was the wrong Justin… but he thought it was hilarious and we had a nice chat. He’s a sweetie.
Haha that movie is classic.
@@Islanders83 we ran out of extras one day, so I got put in a scene (I was crew, I hate being on camera). During Carl weathers’ speech to the crowd, I’m just behind Justin and Joey, wearing glasses and looking miserable.
That's awesome. I always liked justin long but never heard any stories about how he is irl, glad he sounds cool
"What kind of assholes go to a restaurants near closing time?" You would be shockingly surprised man.
One time when I was working as a line cook we were getting ready to close early because of snow. In walked a party of 12 that stayed for three hours
I've been that asshole many times, unfortunately. Pure procrastination, I must admit.
finally some one reacts to this gem.
This will make you rethink complaining about the food and sending it back😂😂😂
Yeah I only partially send my food back. Worked in kitchens quite a bit and it was never this bad but I also noticed most of my coworkers were former convicts. So yeah... it's pretty rare that I return something and if I do I'm super nice about it.
@shadowprince4482 I've worked in the food industry for 16 years now. When I go to a restaurant I don't even send back a completely wrong order. I'm just like "I guess I'm eating chicken tonight."
@@epicmage82 I'm more or less like that but if I paid $30 at a steak house for a rare steak and it's beyond well done then I want a new steak. Also if something is undercooked you're pretty safe sending it back. A little can you throw this back on the grill, flat top/fryer or microwave for another 3 minutes doesn't usually annoy cooks. But yeah overcooked is reserved for expensive steak houses when they murder your steak. Even then, I'm VERY polite about it. Anywhere else I just end up eating burnt steak.
Yea between this and the movie Road Trip, I learned not to piss off the people making and handling your food, but I've never actually had bad service or complaints about the foods I was served luckily.
The movie that has an important lesson. Never piss people off that deal with your food 😂😂
Haha yeah. I was a delivery driver, If someone was rude to me on the phone I would shake their soda!! I know, I’m evil.
Such an underrated gem of a comedy movie!! Nobody ever talks about this one tbh
3:20 "I swear on all of my dead relatives, and even those that arent feeling so good.." is one of my favorite lines from that movie!
Jacapo!
@@Akaeus I knew someone would reference The Count of Monte Cristo in the comments. Love that movie.
This is one of my favorite comedies of ALL TIME... If you've ever worked in a restaurant, than you know, ESPECIALLY in your 20's. Except for the whole "game" thing. I never saw that happen, but I've pretty much seen everything else. This is Dane Cook's SINGLE funny role.
The new guy’s tirade at the end is just the best. Smartest man in the room. Especially because he solved Justin Long’s character’s problem with his future. He did that over about 5/6 hours and at random intervals meeting him.
"What you gunna mail me a sundae I want it now god damn it" I say this to the boys at least once a week.
I'm the guy who said "watch waiting.......please"
You've made my week! You guys are awesome! Thank you!!!!
Mitch (the trainee) was in Freaks And Geeks and Bones. Those are the two things I’ve seen him in. I’m sure he’s in a lot more, but I’ve never spotted him anywhere else.
He’s also a screenwriter, he’s written movies like Horrible Bosses 1 & 2, Vacation (the new ones), Spider-Man Homecoming & Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a few more things too.
He has a large role in Bones the tv show
Senior year in high school, our Center on the basketball team had some low hanging family jewels. He would goat us all the time in the locker room.
One day DURING A GAME! People started chanting “GARY’S GOAT!” And the 50 some year old cheerleading coach told the cheerleaders to start hyping up the crowd and sure enough damn near everyone in the student section was chanting “GARY’S GOAT!” While Gary was at the free throw line.
One of the funniest moments I’ve ever witnessed! 😂
Mitch’s justified outburst at the end is one of my favorite pieces of dialogue ever in a film. Dude went IN on all those fuckers.😂😂
It's also brilliant use of the casting because John Francis Daley usually plays a pretty nice/chill/nerdy guy, so having him just go OFF like that was totally unexpected
the hardest task on the planet - - -is waiting tables in the middle of the rush without losing your mind
This was my and my husband's first date. Almost 20 years later and we still laugh at it
Keeping nuts & bush in this one with some crazy stuff left in The Nice Guys you guys sure push the editing haha
I write the book, here's how it went down:
You walked in.... uhhhhhh... You're fired!
I was very professional you're fired
Wow I forgot this movie existed. Please watch Just Friends.
I swear they should. 👍
Just Friends is the best!!!
Yes! It’s so funny & you get Ryan & Anna Faris working together again & she’s hilarious!
Shenanigans was the restaurant named in Super Troopers.
Sarge: I swear to god I will pistolwhip the next person yhat says shenanigans.
Mac: Hey Farva! What's the name of that shitty restaurant you like with all that goofy shit on the walls?
Farva: You mean Shenanigans?
Haha didn't realize someone posted this 😂
Just did the same 😂
@@thethrasher562 great minds and movie quotes!
Its also the name of the restaurant in Beerfest, also by broken lizard
I never caught that! I need to go back and rewatch! Thanks!
PUT THOSE AWAY !!!
I swear this movie was my childhood, as messed up as that sounds. My older brothers were obsessed with this one.
Nice to see it again after all these years.
If you go back to Super Troopers, they have a whole bit about Shenanigans. Mac says "Hey Farve, what's that place you like to go with all the goofy shit on the walls?"
Waiting, Office Space, and Clerks are practically documentaries. And should be a required watch for high school seniors.
That restaurant was based in Metairie, next to New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina. Rest in Peace to that restaurant bc it wasn't there anymore. New Orleans is my hometown.
The new guy's diatribe at the end is one of the best in cinema history! lol
“Ahhhh the *GOAT* … you bast-ard!!!”
-Raddimus
Sometimes I see a notification to a movie they’re reacting too and I KNOW it’s going to be such a banger
As a cook and kitchen staff all across for almost 20 years, the game is most certainly real
Anyone who says this ain’t accurate about what it’s like to work at restaurants they fucking lying 😂😂😂. And what kind of worker was I? Undoubtedly Naomi 😂😂😂😂
It's dramatized, but it's not far off.
I love Naomi
I was Naomi in my 20s and I'm not even a chick.
As I get older I find Naomi's utter rage at everything more and more deep and compelling haha
One of my favorite bits of trivia from Waiting is the fact that the actress that played Naomi went on to voice Mama Imelda in Coco. It just blows my mind.
Mitch was on the TV show Bones as the FBI psychologist.
Mitch was the main character on Freaks and Geeks.
And wrote the recent Dungeons & Dragons movie - Geek character arch full circle.
This movie doesn't get talked about enough, no one ever seems to react to it either but it's incredible. xD
This movie definitely slaps on a whole different level for those of us who have worked in the food industry 😅
The guy playing Mitch is the director of the D&D movie Honor amongst Thieves.
Anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant feels this in their bones.
Its akin to Idiocracry, in its a documentary, not a mockumentary.
I'm a Chef now but in the early 2000's but I was shocked when this movie came out how close it resembles the restaurant I worked in at the time.
😂 Good times
I worked at a restaurant called Kisor's around 1998-2000 and it was pretty much exactly like the one in this movie , maybe worse even. Once, my friend hid a vial of LSD in the pan of spinach dip in the walk-in cooler because he was paranoid that he would get caught with it. Luckily, it didn't leak.
I used to sneak hits off the ol’ crack pipe in the Olive Garden bathroom (circa 2001-02) in between running to check on my tables. One time, a good friend came in with a 10 top. They were an Narcotics Anonymous group, celebrating one of them being 10 years sober. I was gakked to the gills & was so paranoid that they all knew. I’m pretty sure it was the last time I ever did that (at work anyway).
As someone who worked in a restaurant around the time of this movie, I can say this movie is aout 90% accurate.
It was even filmed not that far away from me.
I worked at Ruby Tuesdays all through college. This movie is absolutely 💯 spot on for anyone who’s ever worked in the world of corporate food service.
You are the first people on YT to react to this movie.I've been telling others reactors for years to see this movie. This movie is the GOAT🐏👀🐈👀
2nd actually. But, true, I have been dying for someone to react to this 1!
That movie is so on point,on how working in a restaurant is
One of the all time greatest comedies. I remember living in dorms when this came out and we would all be doing the goat, batwing, brain, etc constantly lol.
Practically forgot that this one existed. Man, what a time that era was. Back during Ryan Reynolds' Van Wilder popularity when he was actually entertaining. That's a movie that you guys definitely need to get around to, btw. Definitely would be up your alley.
"Mitch" was in Horrible Bosses, and the TV show Freaks and Geeks.
Everyone who has ever been rude to a food server should watch this. This movie is pretty accurate, coming from a person with almost 3 decades in the food service industry
Underrated legendary movie! Sits up there beside Grandma’s Boy as sneaky good times!!
I've been in and out of restaurants since I was 15. This became an anthem for us. I have seen all of this happen. Don't f*ck with people who handle your food.
I forgot how much I loved this movie. Absolute banger.
Mitch is played by John Francis Daley. He's an actor, writer, and pretty sure director.
This movie didn't teach me to be respectful to waiters and restaurant staff. I was already respectful to them. But This movie gave me a good reason.
John Francis Daley who plays Mitch. Started off in Freaks and Geeks. He'd later co star in the show Bones. Furthermore he wrote Horrible Bosses which he cameos in.
Whats crazy is I swear on anything I saw some random kid say watch waiting and that shows me right there that you take the channel serious; after all the years of changes I am very impressed boys 👌🏻💯
I work in a restaurant now and "A little floor spice makes everything nice" is still something I quote.
Shenanigans is a play on Bennigans I think. And all that crap on the walls is a nod to Fridays when they used to put a bunch of antiques and junk all over the walls 😂😂😂😂
This movie is the most accurate depiction of restaurants I've ever seen (with way more genitals and messing with food than would ever happen, despite all of your servers and bartenders seriously considering it)
This is the only dvd that i have that i bought when it first came out. All of my movies have rotated in and out of my collection but “WAITING” stood strong on the shelf for like 18-19 years!
As a 20+ year cook, I’d have to say my favorite years was working at a Bennigan’s. (When they still existed)
As art = life and life = art, I have both exposed mine and been exposed to various c*cks/b*lls and occasional holes in the walk-ins, freezers and after-hour events.
God bless America!
When i saw octopus hat, I thought when a man walks down the street in a hat like that, you know he's not afraid of anything
It's sad that Chuck fell so far after he lost to the Winchester boys.
haha. I get that reference. =D
You two have the best movie channel around I feel like I'm watching this movie with a friend. You got a new subscriber 😊
The guy who plays Mitch was mostly known for his roles in both Freaks and Geeks and the show Bones. He also made his directorial debut in Vacation (2015) and he also directed the Dungeons and Dragons movie
Another great early Ryan Reynolds movie is National Lampoon’s Van Wilder and you gotta watch the Unrated Version it’s even more hilarious than the theatrical version 😂
The kid who played the kid in training was really funny when he was younger in the show "Freaks and Geeks".
Great job, guys. Such an underrated gem that I’m not aware of any other reactor covering before. They also made a direct sequel called Still Waiting, although a fair amount of the cast didn’t return.
Agreed I'm surprised that even Naomi returned for still waiting.
I haven't seen this in years, what a nice surprise to see you guys reacting to this.
this Movie put all of my worst Fears about eating at a Restaurant in full View and I am so Polite to People who handle anything I'm about to Eat in Hopes that they don't do any of this stuff to my Food.
I'll never forget watching this movie for the first time with my old neighbor while we were smoking. RIP MIKE D.
FINALLY!!! Someone reacts to this gem!! You bois doing the lords work!!
The Cardinal Rule scene is by far the best scene of the movie. I loved it from the first second I saw this movie in theaters. Oddly enough I had started my first job working at McDonalds around the same time, and had dealt with a few 2000s era Karens. Watching that scene was a catharsis for all the customers that I had to deal with that were like that.
This is honestly my all-time favorite comedy.. I was 21 when this came out and was also very familiar with working in restaurants/bars, but even if I wasn't it would still be just as funny.. but yeah it's definitely a product of its time..
4:15 Mitch is Producer and Director *John Francis Dailey.*
Game Night & Dungeons & Dragons.
When I watched this the first time my wife walked by and stopped dead in her tracks and said, “what the fukk are you watching?!” 🤣
24:25 The only restaurant birthday song worth anything was at a place called Stonewall's Steakhouse in Boone, NC. The host must have had some kind of training because he had this opera solo that captivated the room and earned applause.
Every restaurant worker has seen or needs to see this banger
This movie coincidentally came out when I was working in a BBQ joint; aside from the over the top kitchen stuff, it's pretty close to home. Captures the scenes beyond the dining table pretty well.
I saw this movie in theaters and still make references to it 😂
Mitch was Dr Sweets in Bones and as someone who used to work in this industry for 20+ yrs, it’s accurate. At least in my day
Thank you man, I watched a few seasons of Bones years ago and that's exactly where I remember him!
THANK YOU. This is the movie I always suggest to people when someone asks for underrated comedies.
a really overlooked and underrated film. Thank you
I once had somebody ask me how this movie was and I told them I had watched the unrated version and it had more bush than the Australian outback.
More people should react to this.
Another great Justin Long movie is “Accepted.” Always felt Justin Long was underrated. His role in Zack & Miri was hilarious, and he did well in the Tusk.
So glad y’all reacted. I think this is top 5 greatest comedy ever and nobody reacts to it
Yes!.
I love this movie. Its fantastic!
(I really expected Curtis to say both Ryans are Canadian)
Lol, I was working in restaurants in the late 90’s - early 2000’s & this is so accurate😂. Shenanigans is a perfect descriptor
Damn….THE BATWING!!!! Brings me back to my days in Pizza Hut in Kingsville, Tx 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
One of my favorite video on demand flicks from back in the day. Thought I was the only one watching it. Anyone that'd ask me what I'm watching, I'd tell em and they'd all say Wtf is that sh**, so it was MY movie...😊
Part 2 was funny AF also. It's called Still Waiting.
Also in that same theme is The Slammin Salmon with the cast of Super Troopers.
"Push the fish, it's about to turn." It means he wants them to sell the fish or push it onto the customers because it's about to go bad or turn bad.
I've always treated food service workers well (I worked retail for 9 years, so its a shared suffering 😂🤣) and this movie confirmed for me that it was always the right call! 😂🤣😂🤣
Used to work in a restaurant in college that was EXACTLY like this. From the people, to the same plates (called Fiesta-ware) to all the random shit on the walls. This might be the most accurate restaurant movie ever made...
