Taika's best acting is in Our Flag Means Death! We all know he's a hilarious comedic actor, but how he handles the drama and romance in the show is compelling and heartfelt. What that man does with his eyes...SHEEESH
Ahhh I love that show so so much, can't wait for season 2!
I mean is it really acting if he is really in love with Rhys?
I love him lol
Green lantern he played very well there
his EYES!!
“You wear fine things well” will send me into uncontrollable sobs for the rest of my life.
You can *hear* Ed’s heart just going “thud” at Stede’s feet. Like that’s it, that’s the moment, he’s in love for good, right there.
HOW ARE U FEELING NOW
"I didn't care enough about his life to research him" is such perfect energy
Ironically that ‘energy’ is likely the very same kind of energy that personifies all legitimate bigots; _‘I don’t care enough to attempt to understand!’_ . . . 🤷♂️
@@edwardcatt2399 Yeah that's not something I would ever brag about.
All that demonstrates is a disrespect to the craft
What we do in the shadows is comedy gold. It reminds me of the comedy genius of Mel Brooks, the dialogue, the timing, the expressions, every detail just adds to the joke. The future of comedy is in good hands with Waititi.
I must have watched it 5 or 6 times this year alone. Me and my cousin love it and its so re watchable
I watched it 2 days ago for the 4th time. One of my favourite comedies of all time.
I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago it’s hilarious one of the best and underrated comedy’s ever made !
You got it right mate ❤️
The show is fantastic aswell
Taika Waititi, king of not researching his characters but giving us the best interpretation anyway!
Others would beg to differ. Haha. I guess I'm in a small minority when I say that he ruined Thor.
@@ComedyBros5 you are indeed
@@me30000 I'm finding plenty of others who agree though. Critical Drinker's channel has lots of people who see through the trash that Love and Thunder is.
@@ComedyBros5 I wouldn't go so far as to say ruined, but I'm down that same path.
@@ComedyBros5 I didn't see the new Thor film but I absolutely loved Ragnarok.
Our flag means death is so good because the cast meshes brilliantly together. The chemistry between all of them works in the show’s favour.
wish he'd talked more about Hunt for the Wilderpeople - such an underrated film but absolute gold
It's his best movie, he's only made 2 good ones. That and What we do in the shadows
@@NeverSaySandwich1 what about his short film Boy?
yeah me too! great film
@@0912sooli boy isn’t a short lol
@@NeverSaySandwich1 boy is comfortably my favourite
This man is the opposite of a method actor, he just plays himself in every role. I love it, he's a genius
His movies are cookie cutter garbage, with the next one being a woke dumpster fire.
@@apk4381 Lol so why you under this video wasting your time hater?
genius take it easy cowboy , you people just overuse certain words ...
@@apk4381 how was it woke?
@@apk4381 u lost me at woke. Can't take your opinion seriously
If you liked Jojo Rabbit i seriously think you should consider watching his film Hunt For the Wilderpeople. It's truly one of his best films imo with the right amount of taika waititi campy humor along with the endearing troubles of growing up an unwanted child trying to hold on to the glimpses of happiness one experiences
Such a good film
If you liked Wilderpeople, then you'll like his movie BOY, which in my opinion, miles better.
@@Bigskot1 I’m pretty sure anyone who has watched hunt for the wilderpeople would be fans of boy as well
Amazing film. At the beginning when Sam Neill weeps over his wife who is laying dead on the ground, my god..
A
I'd loved to see him talk about his character in Boy, Alamein, I think he's such an interesting character that's very complicated and probably had a lot of input from Taika's personal life and experiences, would love to see him again talking about more characters
That was the first movie I’d seen him in and thought he was great.
Boy is easily one of my favorite movies it makes me cry every time
I real love him as an actor. So versatile
I was hoping they had an interview of that character in this... Oh well, Che Bo🤙
SHOCKED that Alamein wasn't really talked about in this. Boy was wonderful. And I would love to hear him talk about the Thriller haka!
1:57 KORG reminded me of a Polynesian bouncer before Taika said it. How many times in the early 2000's some man-mountain kicked my half-conscious foot sitting in a bean-bag at a rave and said "Ey bru! You don't have to leave, but you can't sleep here!" while handing me mashed self an unopened bottle of water for free. Salt of the earth, those guys.
If you haven't seen our flag means death, do what you can to watch it! Funny, heartfelt, great character study on what in means to be fighting against any societal norms. Just got picked up for season 2! Also Jo Jo Rabbit is a must, don't go in with any preconceived ideas. It's an incredible story too!
@mikoy huio Boy is "outwardly" New Zealand, OFMD is....... hornier
“Why clean on a Monday, when you could clean on a Tuesday, 10 years later” lmao
My life motto tbh
I'm not even a vampire and this is my philosophy.
Honestly, not doing research on gaming before plaing a gaming company CEO was fairly accurate of him
He's a wonderful actor on top of everything else he does. I really loved him as BlackBeard. It would have been great to hear him talk about his role in Boy.
Agreed!
Agreed! Love these style interviews but they do seem to leave off a character or role you think would have made the list
What We Do In The Shadows is def one of the most underrated and underviewed comedies. it's a definite must watch for any comedy fans
I swear, everything this man touches is brilliant to me. I didn't think I could love anything more than WWDITS until Our Flag Means Death came out. I have thought about that show every day for the last three months.
I like his movies, but I feel like his ego inflated to the point that he can’t not put it anywhere. For example, Thor is a shitshow. Otherwise, I like his non-marvel movies 😁
i havent watched anything of his that i dont like
@@morgang.5734 try Thor love and thunder, what a waste of Christian Bale, pointless direction, and lack of non-3 year old humor. sad
love and thunder is ummm
Here’s another person easily impressed by mediocrity. Brilliant 😂😂😂😂
I genuinely love Taika Waititi as an actor, a writer, and a director. He has such talent for telling a good stoy while making it fun and funny. Can't wait to see Love and Thunder!
Finally someone who agrees with me he is amazing and i love him
End part did not age well 😕
@@trenhen4311 yea
@@trenhen4311 How so? I have seen L&T twice now and loved it.
@@saxamachick that’s good to hear. I just really didn’t like it and a lot of other ppl were disappointed with it
Taika is “a special little, sweet little, thing that you find in the forest” 😂
I could listen to this guy all day long. What a brilliant, talented, lovely bloke!
What We Do in The Shadows is such a comedic masterpiece! I have been hooked on his films since. Favorite director n producer for sure!! Love Taika Waititi!
Boy, is my favourite Taika film. Watched it for laughs and left with so many different emotions
Boy is the most underrated film of all time. Incredible.
It's sweet and funny but also emotionally devastating. Teared up at least 3 times.
Taika is hysterical...Funny guy , talented Kiwi. Keep em coming
“I’m like a special little sweet little thing you find in the forest. “What is this?” Its like a magical curiosity. thats my lane.” Legend
What we do in the shadows is my all tome favorite movie & show. So amazing & funny!
Everything Taika does is just awesome 😎
When I first saw and heard Korg it was like seeing one of my Maori mates in a movie. The most beautiful, sweet, funny people ever and a unique humour that he perfectly bought to the world.
I had never heard of Taika til 3 weeks ago when I clicked on Our Flag Means Death and now I notice him everywhere. I haven't fan girled this hard since The X Files in Highschool. Sets, cast, props, lighting, costumes, fandom, writing, everything about it is perfection. One of the best shows I've ever seen. HBO needs to just go ahead and throw a few more seasons in there at least. It's one to be proud of
write me down for the fan club 😄
This video made me really happy! I met Taika because of Thor: Ragnarok but I fell in love with the artist he is because of Our Flag Means Death, and since then I've been watching all of the things he did and his interviews. Recently I watched Boy and it was a fantastic experience. It's been a fun and inspirational journey, I can't wait for Taika's future projects! ❤️😊
blows my mind they didn't include Hunt for the Wilderpeople!
his best film by some some stretch. so much heart and happiness in it.
Can't help but feel it wasn't included because of how outwardly New Zealand it is.
seriously one of my favorite movies of all time. it has all the taika waititi campiness but so much heart and soul. Never have i laughed so hard at a kids movie like this since nacho lover
I was hoping for Boy
Agreed
@Rahldemort lol your really going to argue on the use of one word? Solid priorities you got there.
All those things are true. It’s the most NZ film imaginable. Its a huge part of why it’d so good. But my use of the word outwardly instead of totally has clearly offended you. Bizarre
It is my favourite movie of his
If this video was 6 hours long, i'd still watch it, the man is a genius and comes across as a hoot to be around
Genius 😂😂. Doesn’t take much huh
Fun fact! Most revolution-era British accents sounded fairly similar to the thick Boston accent! So Blackbeard would’ve sounded like Marky-Mark, instead of Steven Merchant
A sweet, magical, charming curiosity and brilliant filmmaker who gets to the heart of the story and characters so quickly
I really appreciate that Taika really just seems like himself at all times. He doesn't put on a fake facade for interviews, he just is authentically Taika
the coolest❤
His small role in The Suicide Squad was like a minute long, but so good!
Made me cry with one minute of screen time, the talent!
Who did he play?
@@OliverHollingdale Ratcatcher 1, Ratcatcher 2’s dad only seen in flashbacks
@@limetreess ohhhh yeah! totally forgot about that haha
I thought he also voiced Starro?
What we do in the shadows is the best mockumentary of all time.
Y'know what? I was reflexively ready to aggressively defend This Is Spinal Tap, but you're absolutely right.
@@WC-PO This is Spinal Tap is a great one, but I feel I like I get more laughs out of WWDITS and it has a moment near the end that tugs on my heartstrings.
@@cinemacola6398 Definitely! More laughs per minute, and you become way more attached to the characters. WWDitS 100% perfected the art of the mockumentary.
It's great 😃 Love the series so much 😍
My fav mockumentary is Drop Dead Gorgeous 🥰
I wish he would've directed The Eternals or Black Widow. Both those movies needed more joy & love for the characters, especially The Eternals, which based on Taika's love for Jack Kirby, would've been a perfect pairing.
Bro seems like hes so naturally talented that he just does stuff.. and it works lol
Started all this at 13 I believe.
He started comedy and acting at a young age did it for years started directing at 28ish. He was in the biz a while.
Jojo Rabbit is an amazing film and is highly under rated
it's an OK movie. not amazing at all.
I LOVE Jojo Rabbit. It's amazing! I cry every time.
@@nicolausteslaus I believe it was an amazing movie, but to each their own I guess
@@nicolausteslaus it won an Oscar and an Emmy but sure...
@@doodles_05
OK consumer. As if Oscars means something nowadays...
Been obsessed with his stuff since What "We Do In The Shadows". Always interested what he will do next
Taika Waititi as Taika Waititi works every single time.
I love his personality! It’s so upbeat and happy I love it and he’s such a talented actor 👏🏽
I love watching everything that is Taika Waititi. What We Do In The Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Boy, Jojo Rabbit, The Suicide Squad, Free Guy, Lightyear, the first season of The Mandalorian, Our Flag Means Death, and of course Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder! I know he’s going to do great things for his Star Wars movie. It’s all great and fun when Taika’s around!
Taika’s right, he is a “magical little curiosity” 🥰
Taika means "magic" in Finnish (my language). 🥰
I'm really glad other people like his movies because I think he's one of the funniest people in the business, hands down. What a gift to the world.
He cheated on his wife

The talent this man has is unbelievable! Nominations and awards for acting, directing, writing, producing, etc. It truly is his world and we’re just living in it!
Loved him since What We Do In The Shadows. This guy has the Midas touch. So talented, brilliant and hilarious!
Taika Waititi is a rare gem in the entertainment industry.
the best❤
Takia Waititi is by far one of my favorite directors and I just love his accent and every charecter he plays. korg is by far one of my favorite characters in all of the MCU. What we do in the shadows is the first movie I realized how much I adored what Takia Waitit and Jermaine Clement can do and both their accents.
Side note Hunt For the Wilderpeople is such an under appreciated film.
When I first watched what we do in the shadows back in 2015 it completely changed the way I viewed film. It was hilarious, witty, silly yet it had so much heart. I then watched Boy and it was that what solidified to me that I want to be a director. So thanks Taika for inspiring that 13 year old girl back in 2015.
listen i totally understand its weird to act like youre in love with an old real life friend, but my god. he does act it very well. i cant watch that moonlight scene without making some real weird noises bc its just so incredibly, disgustingly, horrendously romantic. completely insane.
Of all the actors, he goes with Denzel as an example. Well played Taika, you treasure of a man.
Stu in What We Do in the Shadows is the best. The genius of the character is the actor* just kind of stands there, but everyone around him reacts so positively towards him. (*He’s not an actor. He’s just a tech guy Waititi wanted around on camera. The guy had no idea he’d be in the movie so much or be such a pivotal character!)
Funny, heartfelt, grounded, talented, sensible, this man is the whole package, I first met him with What We Do in The Shadows such a classic comedy, then I became a Thor fan and really made me fall in love with marvel movies, I love this guy
Never thought I'd see the day where Taika did one of these interviews. Amazing!
Hunt for the Wilderpeople is one of my favourite movies of all time. It’s just so beautifully done.
I CANNOT BELIEVE he mentioned DROP DEAD FRED!!!!! AWESOMENESS!!!!
I know! I yelled out. Loved that movie growing up and what he said about that and Jojo Rabbit made so much sense
Taika is a kids image of what a director is and that is wonderful
what we do in the shadow is one of my comfort films, i love it with all my heart.
What we do in the Shadows is such a masterpiece
He’s hilarious and I love his comedy style
Definitely one of my favorite directors and I love how he's a fan of the craft as much as he is a part of it.
He is just nuts but it works and I love him for it.
So Taika is like in a way "Screw making accents I do my own." I really like that take makes the film(s) feel more genuine.
my favorite part @ 00:59
" explore the jack kirby art "
...recognizing & name drop that early in to it, is part of what makes waititi grow in greatness.
I think this is my favorite interview of his. ❤
Today was already a good day cus I’m going to see Thor Love and Thunder but this is just icing on the cake!
You forgot about his hilarious tiny role of The Preacher in "Hunt For The Wilderpeople" which he also directed. The scene he is in is so freaking funny!
"Not the Burger Ring door! Not the Fanta door!"
What’s behind the door? Another door!
“Jesus, he’s tricky like that”
“Yes…yes Jesus”
"So let us pray to Jesus to please make it a bit easier to get through those doors, to find you and your bounty of delicious confectionery.”
I really appreciate how he can take some storylines that are heartbreaking and make them joyful-like in his two Thor movies.
That's actually a big problem. In Ragnarok the whole end of Asgard is played as a joke, and in L&T the whole first half is Thor being so stupid he's almost special needs.
@@DrGregoryHouseIT well, nobody ever claimed he was the smartest Avenger. 😏
Taika is a gift and I absolutely adore him and his films. Jojo and Wilderpeople are literal classics. He has two of the best Marvel movies ever (Love and Thunder was that good, to me), and he's getting a Star Wars. I'm just so thankful he exists.
The mustache makes him look like he could be Omni-Man's Maori cousin
11:31 “Viago is basically a mixture of C-3PO..aaand my mother.” HOW is no one talking about this quote?? 🤣
korg is one of his best creations, he’s just a loveable being made of perishable rocks that wasn’t be everyone’s bro
I really liked jojo rabbit and the thor films he really made thor interesting!! Taika is so witty and fun!
His role in Boy was also amazing, too bad it didn't make the cut for this video.
Beautiful movie.
He really shines in Our Flag Means Death
Was hoping to hear him talk about “Boy”
Wish he talked about Eagle vs Shark. Such an underrated film.
Yeah there's enough directors out there that we should keep this guy doing his own style of things. All different styles is best, not trying to make all the same mould. If people hanging shade on Taika, who they really should be going for is the people who wanted his style and put him there. Good interview and he basically owns a lot of the criticism, to no fault.
"You flicked too hard, dammit!" is one of my favorite lines in Love and Thunder.
I just left for a a second to get a snack and reloaded the page. You hit 7million GQ!
i could listen to him talk about his characters or movies for forever
Taika is a breath of fresh air.
Thats true, I love how honest he is...even talking about hollywood and how it is so pretentious
i had hoped that they would do hunt for the wilder people, one of my favorite movies to this day
Love this man. I aspire to have his confidence and calmness.
I'm sad he never talked about Boy. His earlier films are so good but no one talks about them besides What We Do in the Shadows.
Such a great interview! Now do Rhys Darby 😳
Korg made the entire movie for me in Ragnorak. Absolutely brilliant humor
I love Thor ragnorak

I LOVE he referenced Drop Dead Fred when talking about JoJo Rabbit! RIP Rik Mayall! ❤️❤️❤️
20:36 very subtle, Taika
Our Flag Means Death and the show of What We Do in the Shaddows are two of the best tv shows of the past two decades! Facts!
There are many as good or even better directors working now in Hollywood, but not many as nice and down to earth as Mr Waititi.
Hats off to you dear sir, hats off.
this is one of the only interviews i’ve seen with taika where he’s not doing a bit. pretty great.
What a great personality he is, and he's so funny
ITS FUNNY BECAUSE I WATCHED ALL THOSE MOVIES AND LOVED THEM. HES SO GREAT IN ACTING. DESEREVES MORE AWARDS.
"My job is not to go in there and say this is how you should do it, my job is to go in there and see how can I help you make this film the best it can be."
30 seconds later: "There were many things I wanted to do with the character, his talents were not fully explored, I literally contradicted everything I said 30 seconds after I said it and did whatever I wanted regardless of whether it has value or not to anyone else."
Taika: "I don't change my accent, cause why bother?"
Me: "Please don't ever change your mind on that"
