- Thank you so much to Amen Clinics for working with me on my brain health.
Let me know if you enjoy this video and if you learned something new. I wanted to bring to light how serious head injuries are and I've definitely struggled with them. Thankful to be on the path to a healthier brain! - Sport
Really brave of you to put this out there... There's strength in being vulnerable, and I think this says a lot about your character. This could be really helpful for others too - really great work.
Well said. Love her courage.
why call it vunerable i just call it strength to face things, vulnerable says to me someone who does not really address issues so dodging the possible answers , strength to face what could be not nice answers shows conviction of if there is a possible problem I will be strong to face it and sort it. the vulnerable tag does not do it for me the cuddly wuddly poor old nope very not the case -- she saw the possible problem thought on it faced it sorted it simple -- strong little lady well done indeed besides weakness =strength= daft
@@lesliecompton4061 - fair enough. I was using the term 'vulnerable' in the way it's defined in the dictionary.
This explains it well: "Being vulnerable means being in a position where other people can hurt you. It often means expressing the sides of yourself about which you have the least confidence or certainty, and allowing others to respond to them."
Sydney I gotta say this took a ton of courage and truly thank you for putting yourself out there for those to learn! Thank you!
Thanks so much for watching!
@@SydneyOlson Always! Long time sub and continue to enjoy your journey!
So True her courage is legendary. There is alot of olympic gymnast that have gotten scanned but not come out publicly. Thanks Sydney for being a leader and going through the door first.
Thank you Sydney for posting this video as it was extremely informative! I am looking into making an appointment with Amen Clinics as I struggle with many cognitive and mental health disorders. Similar to you, I am an athlete taking part in dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading that can cause serious head injuries. That has inspired me to eventually work as a neuroscientist, neurologist, and neurosurgeon to investigate more about the brain. I am excited to see what content you post regarding this topic and I always enjoy your gymnastics and parkcore videos.
Sydney Olsen deserves more subscribers! She is an amazing content creator! 🙌
You are an exceptional person, you recognized a problem, researched how to quantify the issue, found help to address the issue and are taking action to improve your situation. Congratulations! Hopefully, others who watch your video will take a moment on introspection to look at their lives and health. Looking forward to hearing about your progress.
Well done. I am going through a different path, as I suffered to brain damage in 1985, where I had a golf ball size of my brain removed after a mass of veins that wont grow normally. I had several scans, therapy etc and learned so much from the entire experience. After many years to learn how to speak and comprehend again, I became a long distant walker, to create awareness of the millions of invisible disabilities, that we do not know about. What you are doing is just as important for you as for others, to never sweep issues under carpet and talk about them, make videos and find solutions.
I saw the title and got scared! Glad you're ok. Great video! How many cameras were in the doctors room with you lol I magined a full camera crew!
Haha there was! It was a little intimidating 😂
Your so amazing for posting this. I was waiting to see who the first person was in the acrobatic community to come out publicly. Looks like your the one with the most courage. That means your the leader. So proud and grateful for you for doing this. Love you and wish you all the best. I hope your courage inspires others to do the same. Hiding head injuries for fear of embarrassment is dangerous and needs to end.
Thank you for being so brave to open up about all of this. It was not something that was really on my radar to be mindful of and I’m so glad your video was able to give me some food for thought on the issue.
Thank you for being venerable and sharing! Good luck and I wish you well!!
Thanks so much for sharing! It's a hard thing to share something so personal and can make you feel vulnerable. Good on you for taking steps for self-care and hope you see improvements in your healing. Makes me think about my nutrition and supplements for myself.
I am so glad you posted this. There are a lot of people that have questions about this. Especially for me, I have had brain injuries across my life, and this has helped me greatly. I might pursue the same actions you have taken.
Wow this is amazing to learn about! Thanks for sharing your journey with us and wish you all the best in your recovery!
Good for you on taking on this.
This was incredible!! Thanks for putting it out there for us to see. You earned my sub.
The quarterback Joe Namath said he was showing CTE lesions, but reversed them in a hyperbolic chamber.
I think you mean a hyperbaric chamber.
I'm skeptical they were "reversed"
Thank you for sharing something so so personal! I learned alot. The brain is so amazing. You are an inspiration!
It really is quite a complex thing! Thanks for watching, really appreciate it.
Happy to see this.. I really want my son to get the Amen workup, but it's too expensive for us right now. Good to see what's involved.
This is fascinating. Thanks for sharing your story!
This is sooo interesting! Thank you so much for sharing this with us so that we can learn about the process and potential outcomes, especially if we've had our own head injuries that we're scared to learn more about or confront.
Very interesting and so cool and brave of you to be so personal!
This was so cool. Thank you for sharing!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing! This was brave, and it's important to destigmatize this stuff. It helped me understand myself a little better, too.
Man, I passed out in the shower for the first time ever and clocked my head on the tub. But my doctor said I was totally fine, all I got was a headache and no bruises or anything. It sucked hardcore that feeling of waking up and figuring out what happened, so I can imagine a piece of what she felt. Really glad you shared this with us as most people wouldnt have the guts to. You're a MASSIVE inspiration to guys like me, so dont let your spirits fall. I've never been to a gym but.. Man you make me want to.
Diagnosed with epilepsy at 14, lost hours of time I can never account for each time. If others didn't tell me what happened, I wouldn't know. But the guy who strangled me never told me I had a seizure. Just figured that out. Had a concussion as a toddler... And one ex boyfriend liked to smack my head.
@@ProxyAuthenticationRequired he should, but his kind never seems to be held accountable for their actions.
really interesting results. Thanks for sharing this xx
Thanks soo much for the upload, Here in New Zealand brain injuries due to concussion is a high on the radar here with many high profile sport men and woman, with that comes knowledge and understanding, having stumbled across this video about you and your search for answers it reminds me of there stories and healing good luck Thank you :)
Watching this I cant help but think that, if they opened up your skull and showed you your brain on a plate, you would still be smiling and would probably ask if you could poke it. Your positivity and determination no matter what life throws your is admirable.
Haha that’s true I totally would 😂
Good on you for being vulnerable enough to do this and share it. I've had a few concussions in my sport that I know have affected me and have thought about doing something similar. Thanks for this.
Thanks for the kind words! For sure, it can be so scary. But I think as long as you’re taking good care of yourself, you’ll be okay.
nothing vunerable going on here just a lady strong enough to face a problem with possible life altering news -- vunerables seem to want to be dragged kicking and screaming to this sort of thing -- not so here - special girl indeed
Thank you for posting this, extremely interesting stuff dude
That was very interesting. You are so nice to share it. You seem bright and intelligent. I bet your brain is healthier than most. I wish you continued health and success.
Dear Sydney, this was such an interesting video. So educational. Going for detailed medical tests is quite scary and especially when the results are some good and some not quite so good. I think that is what happens for most people. Because none of us are perfect. We all have something not quite perfect about us.
But luckily for you you have lots of positives!
I've never seen one of your videos before. You were put within the top six of my CZcams list when I opened the app. So the CZcams algorithm is definitely working for you. And I'm happy that it did for you up on my list because your video was really good to watch.
I too have gone for a scan of my body and had to drink the juice and wait for a while before getting into the MRI machine. And like you I had mixed results. Some good and some not quite so good, but I think that's what happens for most people!
I find that the knowledge is something to embrace and use for the good of my health. It helps me to think a little bit about what I'm doing or eating or my lifestyle. I'm quite healthy anyway but now and again it helps me to keep it in mind and think about things long term.
I'm wishing you every success in your parkour, your stunts and whatever else you do and enjoy in your life.
One other thing. Head gear, like a boxers or cyclist helmet. Would that work for you doing Parkour?
I used to ride motorcycles a lot, so obviously I wore a helmet a lot. A couple of times I was lucky I was wearing it.
I've done some roller skating jumps, and bicycling and BMX jumps and stuff like this. It was when I was younger. I didn't wear a helmet while doing that stuff because they weren't really a thing back then. But if I was a kid doing that stuff now, I would consider wearing a helmet and maybe lightweight gloves.
I'm going to subscribe because I want to know what happens next and I hope you can continue to recover and enjoy your life and have a wonderful time doing all the things you do.
This is great information
wow this was outstanding! thank you so much for sharing! That inspires me to do the same! Keep on keeping on!
CUIDATE SYDNEY Y A SEGUIR CON TODA TU ENERGÍA.
Your normal. We all go through this and we all learn at our own pace.
This was most helpful thanks for sharing :)
You are healthy! :) its always a journey of healing Much love from germany
Amazing dude! Very interesting the process, I wanna do one now haha
You have a dent in your forehead, which is where your prefrontal cortex is. That is the part of your brain that handles executive function, planning, equating consequences with actions BEFORE you take action. This part of the brain becomes fully wired into the lower brain between the ages of 21-27 years old (unless you experience emotional, psychological, or physical trauma).
Once I learned this, I never snowboarded down another double black diamond run without having a proper snowboarding helmet.
If you mess up your brain function, life as you once knew it will never be the same.
I also have been formally diagnosed with ADHD, have fast neural processing and pick up on things very quickly, was a gymnast growing up, but I also got very lucky with having a high IQ and I learned to develop a high EQ in adulthood (after age 25).
Protect your brain function at ALL COSTS, as well as your spinal cord.
So glad you caught this while you're still so young. When she mentioned NFL players, in conjunction with your treatment, I'll admit, I felt a little sick for you. Please take excellent care of yourself!
Sidney, you are perfect!
We are all different and a standard test is not appropriate for everyone.
School is deadly boring and all subjects are biased. Do what you love and never worry!
Super intresting, Cheers from Sweden.
Very helpful video. Shame that brain scans aren’t used as an early diagnostic tool in mental health assessments. Would save a lot of money, time and suffering, and enable much better directed treatment as opposed to the guesswork system we currently use. And if used as part of a medical checkup, as in the video, could help prevent future problems.
What do you mean CAN'T? They can but insurance won't cover the expensive tests.
@@JesgateOnDown Who are you replying to? Did someone delete a comment? The issue is not really money - I don’t need insurance but have never been offered a brain scan. Have had other expensive tests, though, because they are recognised as being useful. The problem with mental health/autism/ADHD etc. is that the medical profession doesn’t see the benefit of physical scans. Brain scans would enable focussed treatment to be given from the outset and would potentially save a lifetime of expensive and ineffective treatments that result from a wrong diagnosis.
Cool video. I’m curious what the nutrients she mentioned right at the end where, that she said would be specifically for brain health. Thanks for the vid.. and love your head scar!
Same
Dude your clinician was absolutely awesome, i felt relaxed by him and i wasnt even there haha
You are amazing and thankyou for being fearless and so open with your personal life. I became aware of my ADHD as an adult(self diagnosed like you) and I came to the same conclusion. It is not a dysfunction; there are many gifts that I have because of this supposed “condition”. Although it causes some chaos in my life, it is more of a blessing than a curse. As far as brain health, have you heard of mushroom supplements? Lions mane, reishi, turkey tail etc.
She never said what additional nutrients for the brain. I wish she would have. Thank you for sharing this. Did your medical insurance cover this? Please tell us the cost.
Brain nutrients is extremely vague :\
Aware, Lovely, Brave, True, Daring!
Great video! I think it would be really interesting to get similar scan myself but I don't know if similar services are available here in Finland.
That forehead cut healed amazingly!
Thank you for your video. Please can you tell us what supplements they recommended and where to purchase?
Glad you're taking steps to prevent brain injury, stay safe 👌
this doesn't prevent brain injury, it helps heal them. She's still working in a field that makes her at risk for brain injuries. Taking steps to prevent them would mean changing careers or wearing a helmet when she does parkour or stunts.
@@allister.trudel leaning about brain injuries in itself is prevention. Idk what you mean but its wrong lol
Good video
This is the first of your videos that I've seen. I'd be interested in the cost of this scan/assessment if that's something you'd be comfortable sharing. This looks like something that I'd possibly be interested in for myself.
Really you motivate me a lot
_Super_ interesting,
Its fascinating
Wow Your So Bright and Happy.. And Know What Is Best For You.. I learn just from this Page What To Do About Brain Energies THANK YOU..
Amazing
Always love❤️ from india....
Thats super interesting
Very informative. One can only imagine what years of contact sports(football) et.al. have on the brain.
That was an interesting video.
What were the names of the "brain-directed nutrients?" VERY helpful video. Thanks!
Yes adhd can be a good thing! It is the one frame for everyone that doesn’t work (: Wish you all the best in healing!
I both predict and hope that helmets will become standard in parkour. Right now they are clearly seen as uncool. There’s many other sports where helmets went from uncool to being the norm. It takes time to change culture, but helmets are very effective against brain injuries.
That one darkened spot does seem to correlate to the 'cut' area over your right eye. But remember, "neuroplasticity", a funny made up term to describe one's brain growing and rerouting connections to overcome these reductions, is always going on. Try to do daily tasks that work out the skills you feel are impacted. I recently had a TIA, and now a few months later have found that certain words that I used to spell with no issue, now look funny when I type them out, so I have to look them up to verify. I've started keeping a notebook on these as they pop up. Going to do typing and word exercises to help this.
If I remember correctly you are mostly plant-based. I strongly suspect she recommended the fish oil to balance out your Omega-3s to your Omega-6s. If you dive into this topic a little you might be easily able to substitute the fish oil for a plantbased alternative 😊
it was a really interesting video. And from my personal viewpoint (I am also very weary of health-related scam) there is no reason to suspect this here contrary to what some other comments suggested. Her interpretations made perfect sense and her recommendations absolutely aligned with any research on brain health I have ever come across.
Thank you for getting so personal with us! You are a big inspiration 💪🏻🤗🌿
I am mostly plant based, you’re right! I don’t mind the fish oil pills, in fact I’m only taking them for a couple months. But yeah I’d be more interested to look into that as a plant based alternative, especially for those who really don’t want fish oil haha. Thanks so much for your lovely comment ❤️ I appreciate you watching and adding how you felt about it as well.
@@SydneyOlson flax seed oil is the plant based alternative, but it means you have to rely on your body to convert it into EPA and DHA. There's no way to see how effective your body is at this process so to reap the benefits I think going with actual omega 3 fish oil is best, especially if you require extra concentration of EPA and DHA for a specific purpose like repairing your brain.. Will you share the other supplements that were recommended to you?
I'm an out of shape guy in his mid 40s. But I had a very active, adventurous childhood. Watching this makes me wonder what kind of swiss cheese images I would get back for a test like this after the innumerable times I slammed my head as a kid, not to mention a big concussion from darting my bike onto the road in front of a car from a blind alley lol.
Serious question though, are there any light helmets made for parkour?
You seem like a person that will do great in the aspects of life that really matter!
Before everyone jumps to get their own scans, check reviews on BBB and then decide.
honestly , this was informative, but in need of an update. brain-science needs to evolve to the point, where they're using low-wavelength microwaves to break any scar tissue, that's allowed the brain to go cold, after trauma. i don't know if it works in other parts of the human body, in terms of rehabilitation, but it's obviously priceless - in terms of potential.
Alot of psychiatrist and brain imagers say Amen clinic is alot of quackery. Be great to hear a followup.
Those memory tests can be a bit deceiving if you are nervous at all. I've seen people all my life (myself included) whose brain will freeze up memory-wise in tense situations. I think the brain shifts its focus in those situations. I can remember in high school when I would be around a girl I liked that I couldn't speak a coherent sentence 😂 . Interesting though and it must be a relief to know you are OK. Just take care of yourself.
Excellent video, if you are noticing issues with your memory, you may want to consider seeing a sleep specialist. Especially if you're sleeping less than 7.5 hours. There's ample data showing that people that sleep six hours or less function at 40% less when it comes to math skills, memory, reaction time, when compared to people to sleep 7.5 hours or more . They're also considerably more irritable. Frankly, in modern society sleep deprivation tends to be a lot more common than ADHD even though this diagnosis is given out all the time. good luck!!!
NO I'M NOT IRRITABLE! Err... what were we saying? ;)
Can mimic drunk driving too. Memory issues can also result from TBI or being strangled. (Strangulation can cause brain injuries). Autism is comorbid with ADHD and ADD and Anxiety and Dyslexia etc. Epilepsy too.
Thank you for sharing this. It makes me ask the question, why not wear a helmet of some kind while training?
About the third thing to have said is what kind of tomography it would be.
Are these images somehow based on an actual MRA or angiogram? What is the diagnosis that comes from the interpretation of such images? Do you have an embolism (clot) swelling or some other pathology? Did you consult any neuroradiologist or neurosurgeon regarding these images or any symptom relating to this?
I'd be terrified of doing something like this.
Its nothing to be afraid of if you take action, but if you do nothing, you do have soemthing to fear. Its like not going to a docter for chest pains.
Get helthy💪
Oh God girl take care of yourself
should probably go do this too. have a massive scar on my forehead too lol
I could relate with everything that was said... I've made some appointments in the past with psychologists and a psychiatrist but they didn't know what I wanted from them. Like... how do you not understand I just want a scan and where should I go. I might email them this video to give an example.i know these scans are relatively new but how hard must it be to not understand I just want a scan and advce in the same manner as shown here, talk about foods and supplements... I keep forgetting to do these things and if I did in the past I might have some weak times that I'm a bit foggy headed and then it's like a good habit gets erased if I'm not reminded about it. I wonder about which other supplements you have been taking other than those mentioned in the video. And do you notice anything at all? In my imagination it must be hard to take supplements daily... 😆
Totally. Perfectly clear. Just scan man.
What was the name of this test?
What is the name of this type of brain scan?
do you recommend others do this?
How much did it cost?
you look into red light or lllt therapy helps with cte
just subscribed, I need to get one of these just to prove I have a brain...
wow you are pretty!
Thanks for the insights. It's interesting to see the technical abilities 👍👍 I'm very sceptical on the interpretations... Feels like your history gets used similar like a fortune teller would use it. Also to me, it seems like she's selling the supplements, that concerns a little.
How much do the supplements cost each month if taken as suggested? And are they sold everywhere or do they sell their own "perfect" mix?
The supplements can be bought anywhere as there weren’t specific to a certain brand. It was mostly just the fish oil and supplementing B vitamins as well as others to enhance blood flow to the brain. They do sell their own version, but there is no obligation to buy them of course.
I’m confused on what you mean about the history being used like a fortune teller would use it. Could you explain please? Haha
I'd like to see a follow-up. The diagnosis makes sense but I'm also weary whether it's actually "fixable". Doing the brain scans again in the future will be interesting.
@@SydneyOlson by telling them your medical history first it makes it easier for them to guess what's wrong with your brain and interpreting the scans in a certain way. For the layman it can be very difficult to differentiate between actual medical science and charlatanism with stuff like this.
Doing a diagnosis first and then talking about your history afterwards would boost their credibility
But don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a scam 😅
@@Schmogel92 that's not how diagnosis works.. You need the history of the patient to interpret the picture. That's why any decent doctor first asks for medical history before anything else.
Of course there is some risk of confirmation bias but unfortunately that's the best you can do..
@@Schmogel92 For sure, of course you do need to go into the history before making a diagnosis as well as the scan. What I didn’t show here is the fact that she and I had already talked beforehand and she looked into my history from those tests as well as surveys etc. but yeah we have to talk about all of it again to make the audience understand. But with something like ADHD, it’s all symptom-based anyway. There’s a lot of skepticism already around that as an issue. But yeah I mean the concussions are treatable. A lot of that comes from lifestyle stuff. They’ll probably never fully go away, but I’m just doing what I can to make sure there is some improvement there. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! If you’re interested in more science behind it, maybe listen to the podcast I shared.
Yaeh. Great stuff. I heard about it from Miley Cyrus on Rogan's podcast.
Where can I get a brain scan? Also, where can I get a brain?
Were you paid to post this video or did you receive products or services to kind? Because this appears to be a hidden advertisement.
After watching this I will stay with my walking program.
Interesting video. Just a little criticism though - you need a better cameraman cos it goes unfocused when zooming in or out. It’s a headache trying to follow it. Or get a new editor.
Truth be told after 50+ years on this earth I have never had any diagnosed concussion. But I would be an fool to say that I have never been concussed. Cause I have had a few head knocks, or even been hit in the head with cricket balls / hockey balls ….
Fasting can help with your memory and brain injury issues.
I hope in the future CGI means you guys can wear head protection. I like my movies and TV but would prefer if the workers had safety especially with the head. Banged up knees rehab much easier than your brain
Your scar is on the right side of your forehead. That hole was on the left side of the scan. Why are they swapped?
Gamers would be close in space bar test to get high quality results
I'd be curious to see what "conventional people" score poorly in.
