- The Battle Of The Gullet is one of the first major battles in the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance Of The Dragons. But also one of the most bloody sea battles in the whole of the history of westeros. Driftmark was sacked, the Velaryon fleet badly damaged and a key member of the black was dead.
The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on George R R Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series. The information in this video comes from the books a world of ice and fire as well as fire and blood.

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen was trapped on Dragonstone by her brother King Aegon ii with no way to escape her fate. What was to come was the final showdown between the two main players of the dance of the dragons and bring the war into its final phase. The House of the dragon was crumbling and the events that was about to follow would only cause more damage to both sides of the war.

Meanwhile, before the Battle of the Gullet;
Vermithor: "Oh boy, here we go again. Alright kids, listen up, back in my day, Jaehaerys and I lit the Dornish fleet up like a bunch of candles. Ain't that right, Caraxes?"
Caraxes: "Hell yeah old man, those were the days! Me, you and... and Vhagar"
Vermithor: "Hey wait a minute, where is ol' Vhagar?"
Caraxes: "Well um... about that.."
How do you not have comments😂
The battle of the gods eye:
Vhagar: if it isn’t my good old grandson
Caraxes: cut the shit grandma this was your fault
Vhagar: I wasn’t gonna let that Dragon spit fire at me they had it coming
Caraxes: that’s why I’m gonna bite your ass
Vhagar: you can try bitch
Caraxes : "She's with the one true king Aegon, while we have to serve the pretender Rhaenyra, the queen of bastards."
Vermithor : "Oh mann... Good for ol'granny"
This is gonna make some great tv. Non book readers are gonna be heartbroken.
Im not ready…. I saw a leaked episode list, i think we both know how the season will start
@@TheV8Pumpkinis Blood and Cheese episode 1 or 2?
@@liamcollins9183 its said to be episode 2!
This will be an awesome episode if they do it correctly
Damn Jace flew too low gonna be sad seeing how Rhaenyra mind set become on screen after losing Jace. Truly every death will have an impact on her but after seeing what she will become after 2nd going to be interesting.
Yeah... tbh I understand the hate Rhaenyra is getting but to me she’s a tragic character despite what other might think of her, like with every child she lost she became more protective and paranoid and she started seeing enemies everywhere and to me i think at the end the fight was no longer for the throne but for her children because they were dying one after another. Starting with he father and her daughter to immediately lose Luke, and jace after him and it goes on and on. No matter what i feel about her, i think she’s a tragic character.
@@igoonx15 I feel the same way about her
@@JoseGonzalez-pn5zl i'm glad someone agrees with me because a lot of people are just talking about what she’s done and no one is really talking about what she’s going through and the reason why she did these awful things. It doesn’t mean she wasn’t wrong at some point and went too far but to me it’s understandable.
@@igoonx15 agreed once your over the deep end there no turning back a lot of decision we’re base on her state of mind and losing her kids and betrayal.
I can’t wait to see her get eaten by Sunfyre
Ironically, the Battle of the Gullet was perhaps' the Green's, Otto's in particular, biggest victory in the entire war. The Velaryon fleet was decimated and House Velaryon lost its wealth, The Blacks lost two dragons, and Rhaenyra lost two sons including her heir. Jace's death was absolutely devastating for the Blacks, stripping them of a solid line of succession. Not to mention Jace was a good leader and talented diplomat. His death broke Rhaenyra and sent her plummeting into her long downfall and ultimate defeat. Not to mention that this was the beginning of the end of The Triarchy, something not even Daemon and Corlys could accomplish. And all this while the Greens didn't put a single Westerosi soldier or dragon into the field.
It depends of the viewpoint... Yes, in the aspects you have just mentioned, it is a real success for the Greens. For me, their greatest and indisputable victory remains the Honeywine.
Nobody won
Rhaenyra still has a solid line of succession after this battle. Her sons with Daemon, and even Daemon's daughters.
Well yeah but the blacks won in some other aspects: they destroyed so much of the triarchy fleet that they could no longer play a part in the war (if they could things would have gone incredibly worse) and that massive destruction provoqued the beggining of the end for the triarchy. Also the triarchy couldnt break the blocking of the gullet, so the blacks kept absolute control of it wich was obviously bad for the greens, and all this without loosing so many men. Id say this battle is the closest thing to a tie Ive ever seen
Honeywine was the green’s greatest win. Or rooks rest.
The dragonseeds really came together on this one
This was the largest number of Dragons in a single battle since that one time Valyria set 300 Dragons off to fight the Rhoynar
And one of the dragonseeds died. 😏
It is really weird that the betrayers fought so bravely for the blacks before switching sides. That makes it seem like that wasn't always the plan from the start. They must have either been persuaded later on or they were always keeping an eye on which way the winds were blowing and were keeping their options open
@@reaver1414 they were loyal in the beginning and all the things you listed played a part in their betrayal. I think it was a bunch of things like Jace dying, Daemon putting it in their heads that they could be High Lords, and also the fact that they were in control of nukes(dragons) and all that power made them feel like demigods.
Lots of sea men died
This moment screams Episode 9 of a season.
RIP Jacaerys Velaryon.

@@JojoDog-bg5fyEven Alicent call them Velaryon
This battle and Rooks Rest are gonna be awesome to see on hotd.
I really hope that in the show they will explain why Vermax flied too low. Like the whole Jace’s death scene looks so mysterious. There were bunch of people but no one understood what happened
Honestly, don't take this as arrogance- I thought it was quite obvious: He was looking for his Brother.
Jace had done everything to protect is Brother, from the treaty with Jeyne Arryn to sending Aegon and Viserys off and away. He already lost one and was not going to risk losing another. He flew too low in a desperate attempt to find Viserys. This of course, cost him his life tragically.
0:05 oh man that theme got me ready for this
I enjoyed reading about The Gullet and I can't wait to see how this is gonna look on screen.
I'd love to have high hopes for it but judging by the latter seasons of GOT and HOTD S1 I think it's safe to say naval stuff isn't HBO's forté lol
I have a feeling that this battle and Rook’s Rest will be merged into one for HOTD, also that the focus of season 2 will largely be on Jaehaerys. Aegon III is still too young in the show to escape on his own so they’ll probably have someone else rescue him in the prelude to the battle. My guess is that it could be Baela if here Daemon decides to send her with the two young Princes to Pentos.
That would be incredibly stupid if they did that, I hope they don't
One of the stupidest ideas ever and won't happen in any world lol
@@Captain_Insano_nomercyI hope they handle Jace’s death with grace instead of it being so brutal and abrupt. He fact that he’s the only dragon rider that died and got injured as well feels like lazy writing imo. Have Rhaenyra involved in the fight and make her be with him in his last moments idk 😂
@juronnndagreat3008 well I would prefer they stick to the book and the book is insanely brutal
@@MeleysTessarion nah they need to keep it to book
I’ve love a video on how you think they will structure the timeline of the dance within the 4 seasons we are hopefully getting!
Awesome Job ! Keep up the good work
This should be the season 2 finale
I love your videos on battle. The Battle of The King's Road,Fishfeed, and Battle of The God's Eye videos are some of my favorite if not my favorite videos from this channel. The content and narration are always top notch as always. I love Fire & Blood but every one of your videos I learn something that I didn't pay much attention to or plainly overlooked. That to me is something that makes this channel something really special.
This should be the ending of Season 2, not Fall of King's Landing. Fall of King's Landing shouldn't happen until Season 3.
I really dread this battle
Can't wait for this next season along with rooks rest
A shame the blacks didn't think to form alliances with Essosi states to counter the Triarchy or at the least sent the dragonseeds to lay waste to Tyrosh
While you have a point I don't think the other free cities would rather join the Dance although the closest Free Cities that I could think off that the Blacks might at least have a small chance to ally with were either the Free Cities of Pentos or Volantis.
@@captainvalourous6668 or Bravos can you imagine the power of the faceless men and the Iron bank
@@pattonramming1988
I don't think Braavos would ally themselves to the Blacks considering their history to the Dragonlords of Old Valyria. 🥲
@@captainvalourous6668 you think they were still pissed off about Jaeherys threatening the Sealord over the stolen dragon eggs
@@pattonramming1988
The same reason why they would never forget that their ancestors were once misrable miners beneath the 14 Flames so yes, Braavos is still pissed especially the Faceless Men.
I’m looking forward to seasons 2 and 3 of HotD but man…there’s gonna be lots of big awful scenes to endure.
Yes it going to suck because you grow attach to these characters. Plus you see house Targaryen at his height and to see it come crashing down..😞
I wonder if we will see Stormcloud in Season 2?
Crazy to think how many Dragons were here in a single battle. This is the most that have been in the skies since the days of Old Valyria, when the Dragonlords let loose 300 of then upon the Rhoynar.
Also, Fun Fact: This is Vermithor's second time burning a whole fleet to a crisp
I thought one of the tourneys during King Jaeherys I reign had the most dragons in the sky?? Either way, it sucks so much that King Jaeherys and Queen Alysanne dragons went to such unworthy riders.
@@NRV0
Ah, my bad, I think you're right. Although, this still is the largest number of dragon in battle since the days of Old Valyria. A bit of a different situation
Now ya know they switching all that up in the tv version
Queen Rhaenyra’s poor Strong boys. I will cry when Jace dies. 😭
When you think it about it there deaths are totally blunders on Rhaenyra's part: Jace should've joined the battle after the other Dragons softened up the fleet. Lucerys shows here naïveté to believe the Baratheons would just join her without a proposal or to let a young dragon go negotiate when even Tessarion the youngest green dragon would slaughter it. The Joffrey her inaction and insanity leads to him trying to mount Syrax and his then "tumble"
@@CristianMartinez-yc6prbased on what we know about the Battle of the Gullet, I don't think it would make a big difference what time of the battle Jaecaerys joined. The other 4 dragons had already joined, and the 5 of them were well underway burning the Triarchy fleet.
Jace and Vermax went down because they flew too low, if they hadn't then all 5 dragons and riders would have carried the day unscathed.
They had 5 dragons and still got that there ass kicked
if only they used them all together in one attack on kingslanding
Why did the prince attack alone instead of waiting for the other dragon riders?
If this was an alliance with the triarchy what did the Greens give them in return? Or what did they promise them?
Basically the triarchy got to get back at Daemon and the Velaryons
A chance at revenge against daemon
Nooooooooooooo
After hearing the news that season 2 will end with this battle... i just can’t help but feel sad, despite my excitement to see the battles, i also don’t want to see them die. To me Rhaenyra and her children story is just tragic.
The battle was a victory for Westeros in general, the Triarchy was a plague upon them. So for this battle to spell their doom, then good riddance and well done.
Was so happy when I read this part in the books. Especially when Jace got his ass handed to him. Also it was not costly to the Greens since they didn’t send a single one of their own into the battle.
So this just adds to the fact that Dany will need to, at minimum, lose one dragon during her upcoming wars.
This has absolutely nothing to do with her
