    Great video. I had to restart my cutting in water because it rotted I am moving it to a sunnier location as well.

    I read that dieffenbachia will only root in dark glass, not clear. And when I tried it when my cuttings, they grew roots so much faster! Worth a shot 😁

      Yes it's true, I tried it by placing the clear vase in a black bag (I had no dark vases😁), and it worked wonders!!👍

    Making sure you remember the top vs the bottom of the cuttings is very good advice. I'll remember that when I do it myself.

    Thank you for a very detailed, informative video. Being in Canada, I also appreciated the details you went into for doing it in a colder climate. Talking about timing was very important for me. After a couple of weeks, I was getting discouraged and that's why I hit CZcams again to see what more I could find out and why it wasn't doing anything. So rather then giving up, I see I just have to be more patient.

    I watched your video before putting my mom's Dieffenbachia in water (with the roots). It"s been not doing well in it"s soil. I hope this will help !

    This is such a great, informative video! My diffenbachia has so much curvature in it's trunk because I didn't do a good job of keeping it straight and supported. Any tips on how to do that for my next one? Thank you :)

    Mine wasn’t growing in water so I put it in soil and then I started to see a new leaf come up and one of the old leaves died. I took it out of the soil and I noticed on the trunk stem. A lot of roots were coming out the sides is that still good or should I cut that off and start overagain, just in the water. Thank you for your help.

    So informative! Thank you! ALSO: How long would u suggest keeping them in water before transferring to soil? Is it even necessary or can they live/grow forever in water?

      @HafsaKhizer  Před 2 lety

      As soon as you have about an inch or 2 of root, i would put them in soil!

    Mine keeps rotting and not putting roots, so I did as you suggested (cutting the bottom 3/4mm) but it again rotted🙄😭 could it be that the bottom needs to callus over before putting it in water?
    Have you tried this by any chance?
    Online I can’t find directions whether it’s ok to cut and directly put the stem in water or if it’s better to let it callus a bit like for Sansevierias cuttings
    Can’t wait for your answer or anyone who knows the answer! (and so does my Dieffenbachia which really wants to survive 😎😂)
    Thank you so much! Video was really helpful❤️❤️

      I have found that letting it callous over does not work for dieffenbachia cuttings, unless propagating in soil. but you could try it and see how it works? The only thing I found to work for recurrent rotting is wiping with alcohol and replacing water frequently.

    I am fascinated by the rope shelf in your window. Was it store brought, and how did you affix it to the window sidings?

    • @HafsaKhizer
      @HafsaKhizer  Před 3 lety +2

      I built this, and have it hung from hooks on the window sidings.

  • @2oya

    How did you get it to grow so straight?? So beautiful

    • @HafsaKhizer
      @HafsaKhizer  Před 2 lety +2

      Just had it next to an east facing window, in a tight corner without much space.my theory is that it just grew like this, because it knew through tactile sensations from its leaves feeling around, that it didn't have much space around it - so it grew straight upwards.

    As I know in water propagation, plants will release hormone from the stem in water to push grow new roots. When you change the water, in your case you change it everyday, that's mean you throw away the hormone from the plants, and the plants restart release new hormone again, again and again, everyday.

    • @HafsaKhizer
      @HafsaKhizer  Před 3 lety +1

      yes, I've heard this too! i try to put some pothos cuttings in the water so that they release the hormones to promote growth, but i've found that in my cold climate, if i don't change the water often enough, it leads to rot and mould growth. i suppose leaving the water in weekly instead of daily would work in a warmer climate!

      @@HafsaKhizer What if you put a small amount of alcohol or Hydrogen Peroxide in the water to keep it more sterile? Just a smidgen, or spray the roots with a diluted solution, then submerge again... ?

    Thanks for the video I've had a hard time finding the right info... anyway I was wondering what happened with the one that was accidently upside down because when I was watching your video I had the idea that maybe you could lay it horizontally in the water but with the sprouted leaf above water of course and maybe it would work itself out that way, but then realized that it was almost a year ago... lol so I was curious to ask what happened anyway.

    • @HafsaKhizer
      @HafsaKhizer  Před 2 lety +1

      i didnt want to fully submerge it in the water to avoid it rotting. but what i did was lay it horizontally in the soil when i moved it from water to soil and its doing just fine now.

  • @xuansu6880

    Mine have been in the water for over 6 months now, they didn’t die but they don’t grow either :/ maybe I’m gonna try rooting gel

    • @HafsaKhizer
      @HafsaKhizer  Před 2 lety

      it does take longer in water, but i would put them in an opaque container to protect the roots and then put them in the sunniest window you have (slowly though as not to shock them)

    Please help me!!! I have a huge cutting that is doing great in soil but the top that is raw is rotting away slowly and I’m afraid it will just keep rotting from the top. What can I do???

    • @HafsaKhizer
      @HafsaKhizer  Před 2 lety

      That sounds like overwatering but im not sure, but what i would do is cut the top off and let it callous over

      I just removed the stems, cut off the rotten parts, and wipe with alcohol before resubmerging in water.

  • @matthewdavis6447
    @matthewdavis6447 Před 3 lety +1

    Your upside down one should grow just fine if it's made it that far. Just plant horizontally in soil

      i think thats what im going to have to do!
