    The most interesting thing about the entirety of the clone wars was the pitting of both a very powerful Droid army vs a very powerful clone army. To see which would come out ontop, no matter which side won, the emperor would be in control and have the superior army tested through battle and clearly the strongest option. All while killing off the emperor's primary enemy, the jedi order, it's a brilliant move, all paths leading to his ultimate goals being achieved. Destroy any descenters, destroy your biggest threat, come out looking like a hero.

    • @Kubinda12345
      @Kubinda12345 Před 2 lety +76

      I respectfully disagree. The Clone Wars generated large anti-droid sentiments so the Empire using massive droid armies would be unthinkable. Not to mention that such army can be shut down centrally which is what happens with CIS's military. However the clones could be replaced by loyal citizens which would help with unemployment, disenfranchisement people etc.

      @@Kubinda12345 issue with that though, battledroids compared to even civilian recruited infantry i think are going to be cheaper and easier in general to have in large numbers, the Droid army took insane losses during the clone wars and yet had the capacity to just rebuild all the droids for a few bucks in comparison to needing to provide the soldiers with training, food, and a wage you only need electricity for the Droid, and no need to spend much on training, compare a few weeks at the bare minimum for a civilian based infantry person, compared to like 10 seconds to plug in, and unplug the training data for the droids

    • @hkiller57
      @hkiller57 Před 2 lety +40

      The Droid army was better but Palpatine made sure they were handicapped so that the repu lic would win and he could make himself emperor. If CIS won the galaxy would be fractured and Palpatine wouldn't have nearly the same power

      @Kubinda12345 Před 2 lety +12

      @@ngeteengetee7589 They are cheaper, yes. However the B1 - which were the backbone of CIS' armies - were useless. I mean they outnumbered the clones 100 to 1 and yet the clones still won a lots of battles.
      They also need to be charged and used in huge numbers to do something.
      And since Palpatine wanted to militarize the Republic and turn its peaceful population into a cog in his totalitarian war machine, using clones and later recruits would make this easier.
      Not to mention that droid's programming would be easy to crack and something like Order 66 couldn't be hidden in a droid.

    • @Warmaker01
      @Warmaker01 Před 2 lety +15

      BlasTech is the big small arms manufacturing powerhouse. They've been around forever, they were already well established even before the time where the game "The Old Republic" took place. Wars where the Old Republic and Sith Empire went down, BlasTech was there. In the late Republic era's Clone Wars, BlasTech again arms the Republic's military, the Grand Army of the Republic's clones. When the Galactic Empire is born from the Republic, business continues as usual and BlasTech arms the Imperial military.
      If this seems like BlasTech favors one group or another, it sort of does but a lot of their products make their way to both sides. They make so many weapons that chances were that the weapon you saw on the movie screen was a BlasTech weapon. Even in the Galactic Civil War, Galactic Empire against the Rebel Alliance, the Rebels got a lot of BlasTech small arms.
      Some stuff you may recognize from the movies.
      DC-15 carbines and rifles - Mainstay of the Grand Army of the Republic
      DH-17 - Seen in ANH with the Rebels on Tantive IV, but you see it in Imperial use as well
      DL-44 - Han's favorite
      E-11 - Mainstay of the Galactic Empire
      A-280 - Rebel rifle in ROTJ
      F-11D - First Order Stormtrooper main weapon. Manufactured by Sonn-Blass, which itself is a joint effort by BlasTech and Merr-Sonn
      Scores and scores of weapons you see in the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War.
      It gets even dirtier when one remembers BlasTech's parent company is Baktoid Armor Workshop, who outfits the Separatist Droid Army. The E-5 rifle of the battle droids, different spider droids, various tanks you see from the Droid Army were very likely Baktoid products.
      Arms manufacturers in the Star Wars universe were huge. In a setting and story where the Galaxy is in constant turmoil, they profited mightily. They rolled everyone yet still scored the big contracts of the Republic and Empire.

    As for the analogy to WW2, one thing I'd like to point out is the sheer difference in size. At the current day, Germany is smaller than Texas alone. And even at its largest expansion, it wasn't larger than a few American states combined. So, even if the areas they had were similarly industrialised, the sheer difference in size meant that America could produce several times more war material than nazi Germany. Add to that the factor that America wasn't in any real danger of being invaded or their inland facilities getting bombed, unlike Germany, and you are completely correct to say that the war was basically over the moment they joined.
    And another thing to add for the Sherman in particular, is a comment I read recently. I'm not sure where tho, but it went like this: "You see, the Tiger is the best tank of the war! It is worth 10 Shermans! The only problem is, the Americans always seem to have 11."
    All in all, a great video, and gladly more covering of the corporations in Star Wars, maybe also of the Old Republic time period. ^^

    Interesting thing about the tanks. During the first world war the conflict ended as soon as the tank was invented as it literally just rolled through the battlefield, the second world war was more about logistics as tanks themselves rarely had an opportunity to be of use as the majority of the battlefields were in towns and cities, places tanks are very vulnerable. The Germans actually had surprisingly very low tank numbers, and still utilised horses on the battlefield. They managed to give the impression they had more tanks by using them sparingly and choosing to disengage if a battle was being turned to maintain what few tanks they possessed.
    Compare that to France who at the start of the war had the most up-to-date military in the world barely lasting a few months.

    I've watched a handful of your videos, great job by the way, and each time I come to the end I am left with the same questions.
    How many people are working on these videos and how many man-hours are you dumping into the research? Your information is always indepth, concise, accurate, as well as critical. There's no way you can throw this together in a few hours simply by information picked up reading a few books or watching a few videos.
    Keep it up.

    10:39 I live here! Hartford, CT. It's a weird partially abandoned warehouse near the convention center. That steeple is the old Colt Firearms company. It's still there in all its blue enamel and gold glory. It's the only part of the building in prestine condition. If you've ever been on 91 North you can see it clearly. 91 South it is hard to see if you're not a passenger. It's about 15 mi. from the Basketball Hall of fame in Springfield, MA.

    I do have to make a correction here:
    The south did have a considerable industrial capacity in it’s own right. For instance, the commonwealth of Virginia had a fairly strong industrial capacity prior to the start of the war in cities like Richmond, Petersburg, and Norfolk. Additionally, other cities, like Atlanta, New Orleans, Vicksburg, and so on, had their own, industrial sectors that were capable of producing the equipment they needed.
    The problem the south had was the lack of manpower to properly supply these industries during a time of war. They couldn’t maintain their industrial capacity because the manpower requirements to maintain them weren’t there due to much of the free, male population fighting in the war and the lack of skilled labor among their enslaved population, which couldn’t adequately fill the positions still left over.

    • @snowthelegowolf4230
      @snowthelegowolf4230 Před 2 lety +1

      it also didn't help that the confederate military couldn't even sit down without losing a bunch of troops and Lee barricading himself in Virginia when the western campaign blew up in their faces and gave out the dumbest excuses to not leave.

    • @MatthewChenault
      @MatthewChenault Před 2 lety +1

      @@snowthelegowolf4230, Lee couldn’t do much about the western theater because Richmond had already been assaulted by the Army of the Potomac up through into early July. Even then, his entire goal was to drive the war northward and try to win a decisive victory against the army of the Potomac to directly threaten Washington DC and, hopefully, draw in the European powers.

    • @MatthewChenault
      @MatthewChenault Před 2 lety +1

      @@snowthelegowolf4230, Lee couldn’t abandon Virginia or the eastern theater in its entirety because, the moment that the union figured out he was gone, they would have conducted another campaign against Richmond and placed it under threat once again. He has to remain in Virginia to act as a deterrent for any further attempts against Richmond; a city that was supplying his entire army as well as much of the war effort in the first place.
      Even then, in 1863, he _would_ help out the western theater by sending Longstreet’s corps to aid the Army of Tennessee during the battle of Chickamauga, which also happened to be one of the better victories. Even then, Lee had to bring Longstreet back to supplement his own army, especially for the 1864 campaigning year.
      The failures in the western theater can mostly be attributed to there not being the same supporting infrastructure for the Army of Tennessee as there was in Virginia as well as poor leadership on the part of the southern generals with the loss of Albert Sidney Johnston during the Battle of Shiloh. Lee couldn’t do much to help either because he couldn’t abandon Virginia for very long. He simply could not be in two places at once, meaning that his priority would boil down to securing Virginia and trying to counterattack the north to force them into a decisive battle that would, hopefully, draw in support from England and elsewhere.
