I have been riding HUSQ TE 300i 22 for two seasons now and being a shorter rider (5'7 tall) I find HUSQ a bit tall and heavy in curtain technical terrain. Never ridden Beta but I really want to. I have only been standing next to a Beta bike on the Enduro track and it seems like the bike is physically smaller compared to the KTM brand? Beta 300 RR 2025 comes with "Lower Seat Height: Reduced by 20mm with a newly designed shape and softer foam for increased comfort". Hype is real! Great break down Rich, really love you channel. Big ups from Norway!
That stump jump was AMAZING!! I own a number of carb'd KTMs and Huskys and they all ran uneven at fixed throttle settings until I added STIC metering blocks to the Keihin Carbs that I like to run. This is the best setup I have found.
I have a 2024 KTM 300 EXC and the stock KTM map had a noticeable partial throttle burble (over rich) which I didn't like. I purchased a TSP ERM power kit with mid compression head and it runs so much better now and totally resolved the partial throttle burble. I'm still running the base TSP map settings, but the ERM allows you to adjust the fueling, ignition and PV if you like. Great piece of kit...
@@sylasXoI've had many Austrian bikes in the past but I'm finding it hard to continue to support the brand(s). Don't get me wrong...I'm not a fuel injection hater. I had a TPI for 200hrs and had zero problems. Not everyone I know with TPI could say the same....but if KTM wants to push the latest technology (TBI) at a premium price....then it had better be at least as good and easily tunable as a Carbureted bike. I have not had the chance to ride the TBI bikes but nobody should have to spend big money to make it run as it should have from the factory. If they want to push this technology then how about including a Bluetooth app that lets us adjust it from he comfort of our phones for free! Then they would have my attention for the added complexity. (rant over)
Awesome video, Rich. Was super bummed to miss ya at the recent Texas clinic (already had a daddy + daughter trip on the books) … FWIW I think Gordie had his rear caliper break early on on his TE300 as well … not sure if he had a guard installed though…
Rich is a magician, but would be severely limited by the budget suspension on the base Xtrainer. That is one of the ways that Beta keeps the price down. I know that you can up spec to the KYB suspension through the build your own Beta program. It is probably the most cost effective way to go when buying new for the serious rider.
Great breakdown, Rich! I can give a slightly different perspective of the 2024 TE 300 as a 70 year old amateur enthusiast rider. After 100 hours of PNW gnar the bike has never failed me. That said, my bike and every other 2024 TBI KTM or Husky in our group exhibited the same “slightly rich” fueling at light load right off idle. Better than the stock TPI bikes, but not perfect. I installed an RK Tec high compression head insert and that completely cleaned up the bottom end but introduced a little top end pinging on pump gas. I then installed an electric cooling fan and mix 1/3 100 octane aviation gas to 2/3 pump premium. The bike runs flawlessly now. Others have installed the Two Stroke Performance high compression insert and ERM ( essentially a fully programmable ECU) with great results. This second route offers more adjustability for considerably more money. Either tuning method works well with the stock pipe and silencer. The TBI has more low end on tap than the TPI, and the revised injector location and separate function not only make for a more stable idle but solve the cold weather seizure issue that we experienced with the TPI bikes. The new stiffer frame coupled with the better fork and shock made a big difference for me. I am 10-15% faster, and tackle the rocky sections with more confidence because the bike goes where it is pointed with far less deflection. A happy side benefit is that I don’t need to hang on so tightly, aggravating my carpal tunnel issue. I was concerned that the stiffer setup would transmit more damaging shock to the body but this is not the case. I ride 3-4 days a week, 25-30 miles on average in difficult conditions. I’ve purchased 5 new KTM/ Husky 300’s in the last 13 years and feel that this new gen enduro bike is a big step forward. The improvements can be appreciated by skilled amateur riders too.
Aviation gas is a very interesting choice of fuel as it is made to perform best at high altitude bit if the bike runs better on it why not! Probably cheaper than VP
Rich, what’s your preference on powervalve adjustment and PV spring choice on the beta for the way you ride? Do you set it and forget it? I would imagine you could make the beta run like the husky when you needed it to. Thoughts appreciated and great review video, took me 3 days to watch the entire thing 😂

Good point about the throttle cam, betas do have a longer pull than husky's (hey Rich, just a side note: your recent vids have slightly distorted audio, maybe lower you mic gain and /or increase the compressor/limiter)
Thanks for the video Rich. I like to share something regarding these Tbi bikes suspension, may be it could help you. Couple of brand new bikes in our riding group was not containing same level of oil within each fork leg. And there was a case cartridge didn’t bleed out, properly. I strongly suggest, please redo your forks. May be it’s good with your bike but still worth to try.
I liked the feel of the Braktec on my 22 Husky, especially the clutch, but the casting is just not up to scratch. I managed to snap the cast on the front brake master and the rear calliper in separate incidents. Never had that with thousands of hours on Magura and Brembo. I too replaced with Brembo, mainly because it was cheaper! I’m on a 24 300EXC now and did the TSP mapping to clean up the richness and excessive spooge. Find myself preferring the green map now over the white, and the bike is much smoother at low RPM. Switching to a 46T also helped open up 2nd gear and I’m pretty happy with the bike now.
Thanks for the fantastic review. I bought one of these just before snow flew here in Vermont, so I was only able to put a couple hours on it ripping around my pasture before putting it up for the winter. The last dirt bike I rode was forty years ago--an '82 CR125. I was fifteen, 100 lbs., and couldn't touch the ground; it was a blast! Hopefully this new bike will be fun too. My wife and kids are pretty sure I'm going to die on it.
I'm 56 and still ride. Still can't touch! Lol Looking at getting one of these as well. So the wife kids thing.... After many injuries and 30 yrs married, she has endeared. Gonna die anyway. Besides right up to the second before, bliss! 😁
Great detailed review, I went form a 300 to a 250 tpi, and I find the power delivery better, not as snappy, more controllable and doesn't bog out of corners as much, it seems more responsive. That part throttle splutter that all KTMs have, I think it's a mapping issue?
Broke my Braktec rear caliper as well. Little tip over on a rock and the casting broke. Replaced it with a Brembo and have been smashing that in rocks with no issues. Had another buddy with a GasGas had the same thing happen to him as well. My old Husky was fine, so seems like they had a bad batch around the 23-24 timeframe.
Tying the brake lever squishes the seals back against the pistons so they don't have flex, that mushy bit to take up when you pull the lever. Old AJP trials bike brakes used to so bad the lever would go all the way to the bar before they started to work.
Absolute love my 23 300rr...except the minimal steering angle. But they Made it a lot better on the 24's again. Next bike will be racing Model for Sure
I saw a vid on the rigidity of the newer frames and it seems like it may come down to the chain binding when the swing arm gets half way thru the stroke. this happened on the mx bikes due to the engine mounts changing by a degree or two don't know if the enduro models got the same treatment. The vid is they take the shock out and moved the swing arm thru the range and it shows the problem clearly
I'm certainly no expert, but it seems to me that if the suspension is not settling and the front end wants to push in corners the fix for that would be to add preload to the shock or raise the forks in the triple clamps to reduce squat in the rear or steepen the rake.
I'm only 4 min into the vid but are the 24 HuskyTE and KTM 300W engines/frames the same? I LOVE my 24 XCW for flowing single track. Power is so freaking smooth! My only gripe is that it feels like such a tall bike. I have a 23 TE300 and it's much smaller feeling but the engine is much more aggressive. Man, if I could swap the 24 XCW engine in the Husky frame, Boom! 🤙
Some perspective on these TPI-TBI bikes They have nearly 20 years of 2 stroke carburetor R&D to get them to perfection. I feel like they need a few more years to get the Fuel injected 2 strokes dialed in.
on my older sxf 450 if i left it in the garage for a while unused the lever would just come to the bars, i would ziptie it to the bar for a few hours or preferably overnight and next day when i came to ride it was like a new brake - very odd but hey, it works, it may help people if they suffer this lever oddity
Is it true you must remove fuel tank to change a spark plug! And pick up for fuel is too high,so even though plenty of fuel left in tank, bike stops and wont start?😮
@richlarson511 So, the ability to gain traction and momentum, do you think a 250 would be less aggressive off of idle? I know they like to rev, and have plenty of power in the mid to upper. Also slightly less off idle Your brake issue and tieing the lever in: it applies hydraulic pressure against the rubber 'cup' seal in the master cylinder. Preventing the air from making its way past the cup seal in a relaxed state Loved this review format 👊
Can't beat the tourqe and smooth delivery of the beta.... The tbi models and injected 2 strokes come on to fast but miss that easy luggin power and over rev. Good mid power bikes and economical but they have their purpose. Carby is a must for hard enduro
Looks like the rear is riding high, which is quite normal for linkage enduro ktms, they seem to think they need similar rear ride heights as PDS bikes. If the forks are already downing in the clamps pull some preload out the rear, an extra 10mm of static sag will likely settle it down.
@@IRCTireUSAMoto Thanks for the response! Something to think about since he has been doing a good job staying close and appearing shortly after I start calling for him 🙏🤟
This video came out at a perfect time. I decided I'm getting a new bike and it was between the 300rr-r and te300. Thanks for the honest, unbiased bike reviews!
I think you really want the TSP ERM and play with your mapping. All I see about that TSP updated map is all we want those bike to run stock. Green and white map with the ERM now make really two different bike in one. Im waiting for mine on my 300 xcw to see by myself.
I’ve got the same bike, and that off idle stutter is super annoying. Got the TSP ERM and their map eliminates it. Sooo much better. Their white map is also noticeably different than the green, it might give you the feel you’re looking for.
Sounds like the 2017-2018 carb bikes are still king. I just couldn't get over my 2020 tpi and its unpredictable power delivery. Its very sad. I was really upset i couldn't get the tpi to work for me and ended up going back to a carb bike. If its not broke why change it.
I have a carb’d 19 TX300. I’ve ridden all the new bikes (including the Betas). I don’t think I’ll ever sell what I have. None of the new ones have made me feel the need.
Wouldn't Linear mean r it kept the same ramp up the whole time? if it was wanting to snap up on the power and spin, Wouldn't that be it was more progressive? Because you were getting more of a ramp up?
I thought linear would mean it was just the same ramp up the whole time. You can have a power that is linear but goes on longer than a progressive power. The fact of it lasting longer or shorter doesn't make it progressive or linear . I guess im asking a question
Bet a remap will be worth it. Bike doesn’t sounds quite right especially off the bottom. The stubble at 1/4 throttle at steady speed seems right where the power valve would start fluttering open.
The TBI is much better than my carb bike, the KTM is not twitchy like the Beta...it's nice and stable. Rich, I've never seen you more confident on a bike than the new Husky. Looking so good when you're riding...
I have to agree, fuel injection seems to neuter the friskyness that a carbed bike has. My Beta 300 always seems touchy compared with all my friends FI KTMs. I’m going to put a Smart Carb SC2 on the Beta. Should calm down the hair trigger aspect of the power delivery. Cheers from North Eastern Ontario Canada!
In my opinion Beta did an amazing job building a carburator bike that runs like that. God i love the smoothness of the 300 engine. Ktm engines are good but they have too much electronics on them, and when you are in the woods and the engine stops running you are pretty much screwed.
Kinda crazy that all three ktms are not a match for the betas out of the box considering KTM has had so much more r&d by comparison. Not fun dropping a couple grand more on a $11k brand new bike just to make it suitable. I was a huge fan of oil injection as a newer technology until seeing this video, great job Rich!
I presonally got rid of every braktec components on my Husqy; front/rear brakes and the clutch! When I first switch from Brembo to Magura I was not impressed but I got used to it. I was not able to do the same with Braktec and I went back for Brembo. I don't get why they equip their supposed "premium" bikes with that crap...
I think so, Huskies are just comfortable to ride hard terrain, even for motocross they feel very "central" and the power is just what you want for the bike.
If you dont care about the Braktecs , the TE300 is alot cheaper. I happened to walk in one of the few dealers in my area that got a Pro one so i bought it . Haven't had a new bike since 2016 so i was overdue....and the wife gave me a pass:) This motor is pretty smoooth lugging up anything steep. Still have to sort out the suspension but i just put my first hour on it. Always had PDS KTMs so Im happy to be on my first Husky.
For what it's worth I have a 2015 Beta 300 and I've tried to kill it. It has over 20,000 off road miles on two pistons. Regular maintenance like oil changes and clean filters. Not one mechanical failure. It still runs like it's new.

Can you try doing that stuff with the Japanese dirt bikes , 2t or 4t like honda crf or cr /yamaha yz please
Wow! That would make sense I’m not comfortable sitting into the corner due to the bike not dropping in the stroke.
Zip-tie trick compresses air molecules and let’s them release and move up the hydraulic line easier
Sprock size for your preference?
You rock Rich!
Did you have the mapping switch in the soft power mode, to try and gain more traction?
Yeah, most of the time I run it in the soft. The difference between the two aren’t much though. Not nearly as much as map switch on the beta.
I'm certainly no expert, but it seems to me that if the suspension is not settling and the front end wants to push in corners the fix for that would be to add preload to the shock or raise the forks in the triple clamps to reduce squat in the rear or steepen the rake.
What are the best carburated 300cc 2-stroke hard enduro bikes of all time?
Right on! It definitely works! I don’t know why haha
What's the significance of the lat/long on his jersey? 39.9653°n 74.3118°w
Is it true you must remove fuel tank to change a spark plug!
And pick up for fuel is too high,so even though plenty of fuel left in tank, bike stops and wont start?😮
@richlarson511
So, the ability to gain traction and momentum, do you think a 250 would be less aggressive off of idle?
I know they like to rev, and have plenty of power in the mid to upper. Also slightly less off idle
Your brake issue and tieing the lever in: it applies hydraulic pressure against the rubber 'cup' seal in the master cylinder. Preventing the air from making its way past the cup seal in a relaxed state
Loved this review format 👊
Can't beat the tourqe and smooth delivery of the beta.... The tbi models and injected 2 strokes come on to fast but miss that easy luggin power and over rev.
Good mid power bikes and economical but they have their purpose. Carby is a must for hard enduro
best review ever!!
🙌🙌
Looks like the rear is riding high, which is quite normal for linkage enduro ktms, they seem to think they need similar rear ride heights as PDS bikes. If the forks are already downing in the clamps pull some preload out the rear, an extra 10mm of static sag will likely settle it down.
I’m already running 120!!
Sorry off-topic, but do you bring your dog out with you? Mine has been coming along but I can't session an obstacle bc he wanders. Video idea!
I do take him. I let him wander he always comes back. Lots of training though
@@IRCTireUSAMoto Thanks for the response! Something to think about since he has been doing a good job staying close and appearing shortly after I start calling for him 🙏🤟
What front tire have you been running lately Rich?
This is the new Gx20! We’ll have a video when it’s available!
@@IRCTireUSAMoto looking forward to it! Thanks.
This video came out at a perfect time. I decided I'm getting a new bike and it was between the 300rr-r and te300. Thanks for the honest, unbiased bike reviews!
I was set on 300 also, but I think for my skill level 200rr will do better.
Is the weight difference between the husky and beta noticeable? Looks like the Beta weighs about 10 lbs. less
Apparently the husky is lighter than the beta. that being said it doesn’t feel that way. Talk a bit about cockpit and weight feel at 9:30
Hairs on point
😂🙌
I love the answer
I think you really want the TSP ERM and play with your mapping. All I see about that TSP updated map is all we want those bike to run stock. Green and white map with the ERM now make really two different bike in one.
Im waiting for mine on my 300 xcw to see by myself.
I definitely want to test one!!
100% agree w/ the ERM, or at least a reflash. It will totally cure that part throttle blubber you're experiencing. Check out the review I just posted.
TFW the 42 min Rich video drops in
Haha! It’s the longest we’ve ever done! Lots of info here!!
13/45 sprockets on the husky - what were you running on the Beta ?
12-48
Yes that’s stock on the TE. The beta is 14-48 stock.
I’ll probably do 12-48 Husky for racing
The beta I’d run 13-50 for racing.
Is this bike oil injected?
Would the beta 300rr compare well against the tx or xc?
I don’t really like the TX or XC. They’re too fast for technical riding.
Did your force bleed the front brake from the bottom?
I used to vacuum bleeder
Ordered new beta 250 race mix gas carburetor less electrical sold me was easy decision and they look better 😎
Every KTM/Husky/GasGas I've had worked great with 14/52 gearing.
I’ve got the same bike, and that off idle stutter is super annoying. Got the TSP ERM and their map eliminates it. Sooo much better. Their white map is also noticeably different than the green, it might give you the feel you’re looking for.
I’m excited to test the TSP. I run it in the white map the majority of the time.
I can't spell to save my life so give me a break please.
There is the noise u were making but even under that there is a detonation sound like a ping but more of a crackle
I thought linear would mean it was just the same ramp up the whole time. You can have a power that is linear but goes on longer than a progressive power.
The fact of it lasting longer or shorter doesn't make it progressive or linear .
I guess im asking a question
Surprised no back to back commentary or footage.
My 2018 TE150 takes forever to warm up too lmao. That thing did not need two radiators
What about the white/low power map to smoothen power?
Great review, I agree with you on bunch of those items!!
That’s what I ride it in most oh the time.
Bet a remap will be worth it. Bike doesn’t sounds quite right especially off the bottom. The stubble at 1/4 throttle at steady speed seems right where the power valve would start fluttering open.
They share the SX engines now so that's why they are a bit more snappy. Sure the mapping is meant to be for Enduro but...🤷🏻♂️
The TBI is much better than my carb bike, the KTM is not twitchy like the Beta...it's nice and stable.
I can confirm the fact that the TPI takes forever to warm up!! And in all honesty, it doesn’t run well till it is FULLY warmed up!!
Doesn’t that bike come with a map switch?
Yep. I mostly run it in the soft setting
You need a ktm 2018 exc tpi best bike ever made lad
Dirt Bike Jesus! Love these videos!
😂😂
I presonally got rid of every braktec components on my Husqy; front/rear brakes and the clutch! When I first switch from Brembo to Magura I was not impressed but I got used to it. I was not able to do the same with Braktec and I went back for Brembo. I don't get why they equip their supposed "premium" bikes with that crap...
I think so, Huskies are just comfortable to ride hard terrain, even for motocross they feel very "central" and the power is just what you want for the bike.
300 PRO not worth it?
If you dont care about the Braktecs , the TE300 is alot cheaper. I happened to walk in one of the few dealers in my area that got a Pro one so i bought it . Haven't had a new bike since 2016 so i was overdue....and the wife gave me a pass:) This motor is pretty smoooth lugging up anything steep. Still have to sort out the suspension but i just put my first hour on it. Always had PDS KTMs so Im happy to be on my first Husky.
