    The rear rotor depends on what size rear parking brake you have to work with the rear rotor. If you have the ID 16.5 rotor, the rear brackets don’t work. The ID 18 works and is on ~90% of F chassis cars

    Great break down man🎉… so if I’m understanding you correctly, the only difference between the 340 callipers, m performance and the M3 callipers is the mounting bracket depth with no increase in performance in piston size. Many Thxs I will email you for pricing 🙏🏾

    Hey, im planning to buy a f20 125i 2018/2019 model and chip to ~300hp. I def want to upgrade the brakes as I'm a hard and late breaker. Which pads/discs are recommended? i will mainly use it for (hard) street use and maybe a track day once in a while. Which ones do you recommend?

    Good video bro. I just upgraded to the m performance big brake kit 370mm / 345mm. I was reading in some blogs you should update your ECU to accept the bigger brake kit or you will have a mushy brake pedal.
    This is done by going into the ISTA software and programming a specific brake setting (SPBR and DSC). Have you heard of this and do you think it’s needed?

    NEED HELP: Any upgraded Pads, Steel Braided Lines, & Rotors suggestions?! Don't want a big break upgrade. (BMW 230i, Bolt Ons, Stage 2 Tune, avg +315hp)
    This will be for spirited driving on curvy roada in the mountains with my crew on the weekends and every now and then hard straight line acceleration when I am bored. Maybe I would track it 1-2 a year.

    Great video! Only thing I miss: there are also another smaller brake caliper stock setups.
    Like mine, f30 330e hybrid. I have it stage 1 on 371 hp and man I need better brakes. Stock i have 312mm front and 300 mm discs in the back. I figured out that the m-sport upgrade (front 340, back 345mm) should fit also.
    But, do I need to change other things like a brake booster or something else like that?? Or it is not necessary and just plug and play the bigger set?

    Drilled/Slotted rotors doesn’t really increase performance, its just cosmetic to make the breaks look cooler. Seen people also say that Ferrari and Porsche have actually admitted this, just for looks. It’s why F1 cars don’t have slotted/drilled rotors.

    Same force produce /further away for the center = better results

    • @kern417
      @kern417  Před 2 lety +1

      The theory is sound but it doesn't work that way in reality. It's like getting wider tires vs a better tire compound. The material that's used makes a much bigger difference than the size of the disc.

    • @flaviomartinho1753
      @flaviomartinho1753 Před 2 lety

      True but for example a f80 set up if got swapped just the rotors to a 345 lets say would decrease a bit.
      U should have done some testing before and after on the same spot/ conditions since the only change was the rotors itself.
      That way we would know for sure.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  Před 2 lety

      @@flaviomartinho1753 it's common knowledge. You can look around on various forums and CZcams videos. It doesn't really matter what the platform is. Again it's like somebody saying they want to go 10-20 mm wider on an all-season tire versus going to a direct replacement summer tire or track tire. It just doesn't make the difference you'd think.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  Před 2 lety +1

      @@flaviomartinho1753 think about it this way.
      Yeah you're increasing the torque on the wheel, but you're also increasing weight. And you're throwing that weight farther away from the center of the wheel that increases rotational inertia. How much does that play into affect?
      Like mentioned, majority of your braking comes from the front wheel and tire setup since all of your weight transfers forward. So what benefit are you even getting from increasing the size of the rear rotors?
      Running larger rotors also means you have to run larger Wheels. What downsides are you sacrificing by having to go up from a 17 to an 18-in wheel?
      Lots of factors. But in the racing community it's been pretty well documented that larger rotors primary benefit are for cooling (and looks of course)
