Just did mine on my 95 Tercel. I can say with authority, the main nut DOES NOT loosen that easily. One side I had to remove the axle from the hub, undo everything else, cut the nut off and hammer the stud out.

I used this as a template to do this on my 2018 Corolla and I skipped a few steps and almost screwed myself and it took probably 30 minutes of hammering with a few different pickle forks in different directions to break the ball joint loose from the knuckle

Does the car need an alignment after this?

You make this look so easy. I have a 2004 corolla which is basically the same. When I put the new ball joint on , there was a good inch of space from the control arm. I had to fight with it for a good hour and a half to get the bolts back in. I don’t even know how I was finally able to get it back together. Wheel feels great though, no more clickety-clack going on.

Hi sir..the missing part on this video to avoid fighting all the way is to get loose the sway bar link that is right behind the axle. I really dont know why this guys use the pry bar...is not necessary. Just be sure to disconnect your sway bar link while the car is on the floor, then do all the job of replacing the ball joint..after you finish put the car back on the floor and reattach the sway bar link again. Hope this is helpful for any with a corolla of this gen.

@@cristiancruz5079 Here's the problem with that. Sway bar links (at least on both my 01 and 02 Corolla) don't come off very easily. At least the lower bolt. I had to cut off all 4 links so the pry bar isn't that hard to use in comparison to having to break out the saw and cut off the sway bar link.

I've seen multiple videos on doing a 98-02 Corolla, however I feel as if they do extra steps. Would this be the same? The ball joints appear to be similar or the same part.

Leaving the cotter pin facing up instead of on the side of the castle nut will cause cv axel to come in contact with the pin.
