Personally- I use it because 1. It has the RSS Formula Hybrid which is the best thing to a modern F1 car we have access to (as well as a lot of the legendary cars I can cover in Story Time), it looks FANTASTIC thanks to Sol and Horizon but the most important part- It's SO EASY to do artsy videos with. You CAN do this sort of thing in rF2... But it will take you three times as long as what it would to do it in AC. ACC doesn't have the same freedom... Yet...
RSS mods are top quality. I also love their gt cars. RSS's GT Lanzo V12 (Murcielago Gt1) has to be one of best sounding and looking cars for AC. They've also published 488 challenge evo sound mod for free on racedepartment few days ago. Sounds like heaven... jesus... the downshifts n all...its music . Btw. like ethan said a3pp/inmersive ppfilters + reshade.me ;)

dont forget the open game structure. the modding is straight forward and goes really really further than alot of games i know. its like arma3 for me in that respect.
Definitely my favorite serious sim. Iracing is too expensive and doesn't have any content i'm interested in and Rfactor 2 is good but there is so much faffing involved. Meanwhile Assetto Corsa just... works.
Honestly your videos are absolute works of art and even a documentary maker could appreciate everything you do, your commentary and camera angles are absolutely perfect, if you were to make a documentary about sim racing I'd definitely watch it
Chris: Why Do I Make So Many Assetto Corsa Videos? Me: And why the hell not? There's so many great apps and mods for Assetto - where else would anyone throw a GPL BRM around classic Zandvoort or that Auto Union behemoth around the classic pre-war Donington, and have the ability to make things like that so cool? It's amazing that Assetto's been going for so many years, yet so much content is still being made for it. The same might be said for the likes of rF2 and other sims. And I still love the content.
Chris, I've always found your reviews and comments to be the most adult and mature on the CZcams sim channels, discarding the unnecessary exclamation points and unwarranted shouting replays. Thus, yours are the most reliable. And, along with Barry Roland, the most honest. IMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your videos on AC mods single handedly convinced me to buy a gaming pc just for mods. Much of it had to do with your presentation and editing. This has been as big a game changer in my 20 years of racing games as getting my first FFB wheel so 🍻 to you
If I pointed to rF2 or ACC or AC or RRE (all sims I currently play), and said that's the best, then that judgment would be very hard to back up. My FAVOURITES are rF2 and ACC, but that's a different issue.
💯 Support Chris and exactly why I watch your videos,. Cinematography. Feeling the same when making videos. Assetto Corsa just gives so much more ability to create content, which many sims don’t or make it difficult to do so. Raceroom is the next best thing. Keep up the great work !
This is another fine example why you just have the very best sim racing videos out there. As you stated you race all the major racing sims from time to time I would be curious to see something new with a RaceRoom content, given the very high film-making standard you have achieved by now. (and because I am a bit of a R3E-guy as well) Knowing that R3E is not the best sim out there when it comes to graphics...so this might be a bit of a challenge for you :-) All that's left to say is: Keep on film making and enjoy the rest of the day ;-)
AC is great. I'm no expert but it looks good, has loads of content thanks to all the wonderful developers hard work, and it's fun. What more do you need? Oh yeah, people like you Chris, who give us fans some excellent CZcams content to enjoy and learn from. Thank you.
Your similes, metaphors and overall linguistic expression have really improved over the course of your content creation career, or maybe I’ve just noticed some more bits of hyperbole hitting the mark recently than in the past. Keep it up.
Replay controls and abilities are something I haven't thought about in a while, but you make some great points. I also think that in addition to the usual photos and video clips, it would be great if we could make short gif files without needing separate software. Nothing cooler than a short clip of a great save or a perfect Scandinavian flick.
1000% on-board with all of this, games start to get photo modes, why not dedicated videography mode! Motorsport videography is something I enjoy watching, why not allow it for the masses virtually and give the ability to do stuff that isn't even possible in real life!

Chris, your visuals, content, context and soothing voice, is what drew me to your videos. Thanks for the explanation. Whilst watching you air your heart, i got the feeling that Assetto Corsa is the new Rfactor 1... as that used to be the content creation platform for new tracks and cars, RF2 never really took over, but assetto corsa did. And i'm happy for it. It looks and drives so stunningly, So: thank you to all, for making this possible.
I'm still an old sim head, games like GPL, GP4, GTR2, RF1, AMS, GSC, NR2k3 etc, I still play simply because of the amount of mods available for them. The abundance of mods for the older sim titles is unparalleled compared to modern sim titles simply because... well they have not been out for too long. With time AC mods will continue to grow making the game as historically significant as rfactor 1 imho
Great Video Chris! This is my frustration with most console games and may be the reason why I’ll move to PC. I’d totally love if Gran Turismo gave us access to the tools that they use to make their cinematic trailers
Thanks for this! Once you laid it out clearly, I realized that this explains why I enjoy watching your videos more than any other sim racing channel. (This and your generally positive/constructive viewpoint.) Thanks, racing sim filmmaker! 😉
One of the first AC vids I saw that made me say wow was when one of my old teammates beetesjuice made an NAGP season 30 rewind video, one of the best AC vids I've seen. Was about 3 yrs ago and my first season racing in VR. With 30 cars every race it was intense and my PC struggled from time to time before I upgraded. Great vids Chris, thank you. 👍
A point that I can highly relate to. As someone who records and edits races from replays ,I think Assetto is basically the best. It has all of the tools and the support of hundreds of people. One thing I could add to this is the tool called "CamTool" which basically allows you to create replay camera sets for any track ,save and share them with others. It adds a lot of options but It requires some time to learn every part of it and it has it's flaws as well.
Chris, I have always thought that your content is creative and visually gorgeous. But I never stopped to wonder about the hoops you jump through to pull it off. Now I respect your efforts even more!
AC is the only sim besides PC2 (and that's just for dumb fun) on my PC at the moment other then iRacing, and I haven't renewed my subscription in months (saving for a new yoke and stick for FS2020). It's just amazing, and when full rain effects are fully released in CSP, it will instantly widen the gap and maintain it's status as king. I used to love rF2, and and I used to only play rF1. AC makes that feel like 4 -5 decades ago.
Absolutely great points, Chris..... and it would be hard for me (with my Creators hat on) to believe that baring someone's personal favorite - that 90% of all Sim Racing Creators would agree with you. Heck, nearly 2 years of my video's were only AC for that very reason. VIDEO SUGGESTION THEN:- If you felt like nailing home the point to game makers about making it easier to show off their Sims/Simcades FOR FREE PUBLICLY BY US!!!.............. would you consider a "Name & Shame List?" --- actually just kidding there, but would it be worth going thru say the Top 5 / Top 7 Sims, and saying maybe what was extremely hard to do to show off their Sim(s). Cos My immediate reaction having never ever tried it - is how versatile (or not) is iRacing to show off in video's
I feel this! As a Sim Racer with a background in Video Production, I’d love to create great content but I have not found easy to use camera controls in any Sim yet. I’d love to make great content but we are limited. I used Camera Control Master on NR2003 and it was super nice and simple but since windows 10 came out, it does not function and any chance I could get to do some cinematography work in sim racing is not possible. I play around still in Forza Motorsport and Horizon but it’s definitely not the same! Thanks for making this Chris!
Hey Chris, nice video! If you don't feel weird about showing the tools to your trade, it would be cool to see a video where you show your work flow and thought process while creating these nice shots of the cars.
Thanks! Funny you should mention that, but the plan is to produce some iRacing content later this week. If it doesn't materialise, presume I did very, very badly :D
The replay cameras in GT Sport are one of the reasons I love the GT brand. ACC has been getting most of my time now just wish on a console I could save an entire race rather then the last 4-5 minutes.
@Chris Haye Not a racing sim but interestingly Star Citizen has all the functions for players and content creators, you were talking about. You can bind any camera feature and movement to any input device you like. A good example imo :)
Great video as always! I assume you use stereo joycam for the movement, I think in photo mode you can set positions and have them play out as the replay goes on, not 100% on that but seen something like that in the photo mode app/settings. Might be a good alternative to the stereo joycam for some shots where you have to change zoom and focus ect, just not 100% that is what it is for tho. ( First but dont want to boast about my internet speed lol ( but watched the video all the way through and then spent 10 mins trying to make this make sense lol))
It's just the best sim overall... I practically stopped playing other games and spend my gaming time almost exclusively on AC, even if it's just taking screenshots... CSP, Sol, a good PP Filter (I'm using A-Wagnum by the way), and the RTGI ReShade shader to top it off and it looks and plays the part.
I’m going to be honest, I don’t have much experience with video playback in racing sims, but I will say, Forza Horizon has a pretty good photo mode with quite a few cool features. I know that Forza isn’t considered a sim by many people, but I still stand by what I said.
Now you got me thinking about making a DiRT Rally 2.0 video using the custom camera mod 🤔 Also, I reckon you could do a dolly zoom by recording in higher resolution (4K maybe) than your intended output and then zooming digitally. Obviously not as flexible or convenient as being able to zoom the in-game camera, but maybe better than nothing?
that is why many movie companies film in crazy high quality like 8k so they can have the freedom to modify a shot in post and have it still look good when exported in the intended resolution
HA the internet! People say the darndest things. Chris this is one of the things I keep coming back to your site ... you're not affraid to takel comments. All I can say is for one, I like what you do & how you do it and my only comments to people out there, YOU have the choice to go any where on the net & if you don't like something don't look it up, You are not tided down with a ball & chain, so STOP complaining ...... (constructive critisism should always be welcomed) .... Chris, tks for your comments & keep doing what you do.
I use AC, because I like it, basically. I also like AMS2, as that's what's currently bringing in the views. For AC though, I like how I can easily recreate broadcast TV replay cameras accurately, for many tracks.
to but it simply:Bc the fanbase has helped perfect the sim through mods something most other sims would never allow and often die bc the community cant do as much.
*nudges Codemasters* DR2 would/would've sold itself more if we could save replays let alone have a proper mirror in VR. Even if we need an extra 4GB of space because they don't save compressed or something, we should at least have that option.
Man my only two gripes with ac is that I wish that the ai does not take me off of the road when they are behind me and there is no way to get rolling start but other than that for me a perfect sim With mods you get all the biggest tracks (eg le mans daytona etc.) Ffb for me is great Physics are great You get all sorts of cars and they handle great All the tracks are laser scanned And the best of it all When you buy the complete edition and install couple of essential mods you get everything with great ffb and physics for little money Ac is my go to sim for online play and for hotlapping But man I'd give my left nut for the ai to be better because then I don't think I would play anything else apart from ac
I don't make videos about racing sims, I just play them. But even I found the camera controls and options quite restricitve most of the time when I just want to get that nice screenshot or short clip of something that happened while driving
Have you thought about making a video showing us exactly how you use the ac free cameras to capture footage for videos and how you edit everything together?
Head-to-head with Stephen Colbert for best dialog of the day. Nice video, also, but a podcast of the audio would have worked without it. I think it is also fair to point out that there may be a fair number of viewers who do pretty much ONLY play AC, given arbitrary Easter egg user interfaces in alternatives also lacking its depth, and watching streamed footage of inconsistent driving with unscripted and garbled dialog of games that one won't be playing does not qualify as good use of time.
No shame in being an AC “fanboy” look at what AC has to offer! Great FFB/physics, huge selection of quality cars and tracks, content manager, SOL mod etc etc fantastic sim that keeps on giving thanks to an awesome community of brilliant and talented mod makers that share their creations freely with fellow enthusiasts. What’s not to like about AC. 😎
Well I just play ACC... that is because a) it is very complex and lots of fun and b) I have a job and not so much time to invest time in all the sims :D
All I know is they better make an AC2. Kinda worried they wont and if they do they'll use the ACC engine that sucks for VR and wouldn't have mod support.
Very valid and well explained vid, I make vids for fun, I'm not so bothered about artistic effects and producing the perfect shot using novel techniques most people have never heard of and wouldn't know even if they saw them. I don't do commentaries, I don't do game analysis, hardware testing, guides, etc. Just me and mates racing with some tunes playin in the background. I just make simple vids of a race that for me was fun or challenging, I'm not after a career after all and can't earn a fortune from my 87 subscribers and really I don't wanna turn my passion/hobby into a job. I love the vids you produce, the game in question is immaterial, I'm watching to hear your thoughts on the subject matter you're raising. Not for the latest uber gfx from the most recent titles nor would I demand such from you. I might make a request but that's it, a request. If I wanted gushing praise of the latest title given free to clueless YT'ers I'd be subbed to Gameriot who seems to gush at everything and gloss over or flat out ignore the woeful failings in many of the games he feels are worthy of wasting time and money on whilst bouncing off the walls in the corners.. Many will disagree with me but that's human nature and everybody has a right to an opinion and to choose what they watch. I watch Your vids because I value your opinion whether I agree with them or not, the artistic values and the work involved to attain the end results make watching all the more worthwhile and are always appreciated even if little understood. The points you raise here are absolutely spot on, sadly it seems many devs don't cater to the few people who will put in as much effort as yourself, this is quite saddening even for me and my mediocre efforts, I get frustrated when switching to another player and the trackside camera is behind a wall but can't be bothered to spend the time to re-record it (again starts to feel like a job then). Making vids to such a high standard IS your passion and it clearly shows in the finished products. All of them. Ignore the whiners, do what YOU want to do, if anything we suggested sparks your creativity great, glad to have some input, sparking your interest and gladly await the results. Your thoughts on the subject at hand are more important, the imagery is eyecandy and keeps me interested whilst learning something from your racing talents and the techniques I'm seeing on screen. Same with all the other Simtubers I'm subbed to. I'm learning all the time...
@@ChrisHaye Yeah I think its just getting into a rhythm with it, ive gotten pretty decent at quickly turning out cinematic shots with iRacings camera tools for cinematic pieces on my other channel but when i go to AC it feels really slow in getting it done until I get into a rhythm with it and its nuances and then can start to get things out quickly after a while in AC too
Chris Haye it’s definitely a case of use what you are used too, but IRacing tools are as good if not better than AC’s once you learn them and get all the buttons bound to a controller. I haven’t found a limitation yet with the freedom to create any shot type.
@Chris Haye I agree that AC provides lots of tools and lots of content. I do appreciate your videos, but to be entirely honest I found the camera work a bit static. In my opinion (of course, personal taste) watching a pack of cars racing or even driving by is an overwhelming experience, they are so fast that your eyes cannot follow, they roar/scream and the ground shakes beneath your feet. Do you use or are you planning on using the CamTool 2 app? It is really a big step forward for video making in AC. Here: www.racedepartment.com/downloads/camtool-2.15062/

I know that Forza isn’t considered a sim by many people, but I still stand by what I said.
great video as always and thanks for inspiring me to start making my own videos too!!!
Now you got me thinking about making a DiRT Rally 2.0 video using the custom camera mod 🤔
Also, I reckon you could do a dolly zoom by recording in higher resolution (4K maybe) than your intended output and then zooming digitally. Obviously not as flexible or convenient as being able to zoom the in-game camera, but maybe better than nothing?
Good shout Andy, I actually do use that trick, and snuck it into this video - just to see if anyone would notice! :D
that is why many movie companies film in crazy high quality like 8k so they can have the freedom to modify a shot in post and have it still look good when exported in the intended resolution
Chris, tks for your comments & keep doing what you do.
rF2 desperately needs a overhaul of its free/replay cams and controls.. would make my life 100x easier
So, personal favorite sim: DiRT Rally 2.0...
The reason why I don't post clips as much from it: lack of replay save.
*nudges Codemasters* DR2 would/would've sold itself more if we could save replays let alone have a proper mirror in VR. Even if we need an extra 4GB of space because they don't save compressed or something, we should at least have that option.
Man my only two gripes with ac is that I wish that the ai does not take me off of the road when they are behind me and there is no way to get rolling start but other than that for me a perfect sim
With mods you get all the biggest tracks (eg le mans daytona etc.)
Ffb for me is great
Physics are great
You get all sorts of cars and they handle great
All the tracks are laser scanned
And the best of it all
When you buy the complete edition and install couple of essential mods you get everything with great ffb and physics for little money
Ac is my go to sim for online play and for hotlapping
But man I'd give my left nut for the ai to be better because then I don't think I would play anything else apart from ac
Im curious now about what non sim racing games you play now?
I reckon you dominate on rainbow road!
I don't make videos about racing sims, I just play them. But even I found the camera controls and options quite restricitve most of the time when I just want to get that nice screenshot or short clip of something that happened while driving
It's because AC is so versatile.
Answer before watching the Video: because AC is still a great and realistic sim and has got many many mods and still there are good mods coming
Honestly assetto corsa is a bloody god send
There is no game like it and it has vr support
Have you thought about making a video showing us exactly how you use the ac free cameras to capture footage for videos and how you edit everything together?
Fantastic quality of your videos. What mods do you recommend for AC for someone just starting?
Head-to-head with Stephen Colbert for best dialog of the day. Nice video, also, but a podcast of the audio would have worked without it.
I think it is also fair to point out that there may be a fair number of viewers who do pretty much ONLY play AC, given arbitrary Easter egg user interfaces in alternatives also lacking its depth,
and watching streamed footage of inconsistent driving with unscripted and garbled dialog of games that one won't be playing does not qualify as good use of time.
Chris, you could've just said: because I wanna 🙄
Not if he cares about his audience, answer that way and any question people are interested in won't be coming to you for an answer. 🙄
Best replays I have ever seen are from Trackmania...that's not a sim, of course...
When are you going to review the aialogs handbrake?
Well I just play ACC... that is because a) it is very complex and lots of fun and b) I have a job and not so much time to invest time in all the sims :D
All I know is they better make an AC2.
Kinda worried they wont and if they do they'll use the ACC engine that sucks for VR and wouldn't have mod support.
0:40 Is that an overtaking challenge mod ? 😱
Not sure, but wish you made more Automobilista 2 videos.
Question 1, why do I do this... Because I enjoy it and it looks pretty fuck off.
Chris ignore them I enjoy your videos keep going.
Please share your secrets ... how can Assetto Corsa look this good ?
I don't think this video really needed any dialog. The cinematic tells the story very well.
That’s a weird ass looking Alpha Tauri.....
All of the issues with the cameras you have in AC excluding the zooming being bound to a button is available in iRacing btw!
Yeah, the iRacing camera is really advanced. But I've still not found a workflow that I'm happy with. Shooting is very slow still.
What I want to know is where the hell is asseto corsa 2
No sim looks better in VR, no other has a better variety of cars and tracks
Do you have a video for me? I want to start making tracks on AC
get in touch with lil-ski or fat alfie, both highly respected ac track modders.
Search my videos for an episode of Talking Sims with Leon Sutfeld - he talked extensively about the process of creating the Sveg mod. It's a good overview I think :)
I just pictured Sasha Baron Cohen as "The Dictator" shooting the other countries opponent so his can win at the Syrian 100m dash, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.
Review of 488 challenge mod from ferrari?
Dude, it's your channel. Make the videos you enjoy making. People will watch them, or not.
Hi Sim Racing Film Maker. My goal is to be a Sim Racer Photography Film Maker. Hopefully we can collab in the future!
AC & ACC are my favorite, I won't lie.
I really like your shots btw. Definitely has that film maker's touch.
its the best sim
Chris are you capable of coding or developing this stuff? I mean this seems to me (a noob) like not only a good idea, but a marketable one. With perhaps a nearly untapped customer base.
At 1:06 How is the Track called? Link to download?
What about mods? I guess that AC has the most cars from all the sims :).
Its thanks to you that i buy assetto corsa 😅
Has anyone figured out how to do a vertical dolly/crane shot in ACC using an Android controller? Free cam movement along the Z axis seems to be none existent. Is this the case or do I need to look harder?
**I'm referring to the Z axis of the camera not the environment.
