    I lived in UV last year and I was told by staff in the housing office that all UV rooms were being turned into doubles because of the Camp Fire. I was in the situation that you explained, I had four suite mates and I had my own room and had to share the bathroom and kitchen. Just wanted to give an FYI for people looking into UV housing, unless its changing for the upcoming school year. At least this school year all the rooms at UV were turned into doubles :/

      @marnie_jean  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for the update! It could be changing back, because fewer freshmen have been applying to Chico since the fire, but I don't know! They still list "single" as an option for Konkow, Whitney, and UV.

    Hi! I love watching you videos and was wondering would you suggest choosing a roommate? Iwant to live in Whitney but heard choosing to room with someone will give you a less likely chance to room in Whitney

    • @marnie_jean
      @marnie_jean  Před 4 lety

      i wouldn't recommend choosing a roommate for the dorms just because living with a stranger will encourage you to meet a bunch of new people. i know whitney has quite a few triples/quads so maybe that's why it gives you a less likely chance?

    HI! I am going on exchange to Chico next Fall. What are the available housing options for me? The exchange fact sheet says that UV is the only available option but that is super expensive. I am only gonna be there for 4 months and the cost of UV is like 5600USD.

    • @marnie_jean
      @marnie_jean  Před 4 lety +1

      www.csuchico.edu/iss/_assets/documents/19-20-housing-guide.pdf you've probably already looked at this or something like it, but trying to find a homestay could be more affordable! It is also possible that you could "sublet" someone's apartment, which is basically living in their place for the semester. There are Chico State students that go abroad and leave their apartments for six months, so maybe you could live in their place for the fall? Check craigslist or maybe email the Chico State Study Abroad/Exchange office about subletting a Chico student's apartment. Good luck!

    • @marnie_jean
      @marnie_jean  Před 4 lety +2

      You’re allowed to bring your own or it’s a one time payment of like $90 (I think) to rent it for the year, which you and your roommate can split

      SHANNON PHANEUF see if your class (class of 2024?) has a Facebook group- almost every class has one by the summer before freshman year! If not, there’s also a “Chico student housing 2020-2021” Facebook group, but most of those posts are about apartments/houses. I’d also check out the Chico subreddit (r/CSUC). You could also try talking to the university housing office. Good luck!!

    Is it weird to live in the dorms as an upperclassman? I'm a transfer student and never experienced living on campus but I don't think i'd necessarily fit in with incoming freshman. Do you know people who do this? And which dorm at Chico State would be the most suited for an upper classman?

    • @marnie_jean

      @marnie_jean  Před 4 lety

      lassen, shasta, whitney, definitely have communal bathrooms, sutter/mechoopda/esken i don't know (and can't find it online), konkow/UV have apartment style bathrooms where 2-4 people share one. communal bathrooms aren't that bad though, you get used to it really fast and it doesn't even seem weird or awkward.

    Little nervous commenting, for my son who is not even a student nor does he want to go to college which I am OK with as college is not everyone’s way to go. He’s thinking about moving with his girlfriend who wants to go to Butte County junior college, if he’s not attending any college would it be easy for him to get into housing or is there still a housing shortage, don’t they prefer to give their housing to students and not 19 year old kids that are just going to be working? Totally just wondering LOL

    • @marnie_jean
      @marnie_jean  Před 2 lety +1

      so long as he makes enough money or has a cosigner, he should be fine! at the end of the day they don’t really care as long as rent is being paid. i worked at home depot with quite a few people my age who weren’t pursuing a degree, their rent was often cheaper because they didn’t live within walking distance of the chico campus.

    • @lauraanagnostopoulos146
      @lauraanagnostopoulos146 Před 2 lety

      @@marnie_jean no cosigner, I believe the rent is like 900 per person, we’re trying to convince him to allow his girlfriend to do the college thing there since that is her path and he can focus on saving money here and figuring out what he wants to do with himself instead of following her around and distracting her from school I think they’re going to give that a try and see each other on the weekends, I truly wish her luck and really hope she stays safe

    • @marnie_jean
      @marnie_jean  Před 4 lety

      i didn't see this til now! the campus walk is cool because they have a pool and are a really short walk to campus. they're brand new as of 2018, and they're an example of the expensive places, where it costs like ~800 per month. they will also pair you with roommates so you don't need to find other people to live with. it's worth it if you can afford it, cause everything is all new and pretty nice. also there's absolutely NO parking for residents, like 20 spots for the whole complex.
