- Some of you know that I was exposed to Carbon Monoxide IN FLIGHT. Thankfully I was in a plane burning MoGas and recognize the symptoms. We made it safely back on the ground. BUT, I'm not going to let that EVER happen in the Red Rocket. Today I'm installing the Aithre eDot 5.0 CO detector. Neat little gadget that lets you know via LED if something is wrong in the plane. Couple that with their companion app, and you'll be sure of the air you breathe in the cockpit.

When drilling sheet metal you'll want a pilot punch mark, you can get a punch that you hit with a hammer, an auto punch that operates by itself, or in a pinch you can use a ballpoint pen. What this does is makes a small indent that holds onto the drill and gets it established.
I know. I just didn’t do it. Had a feeling it would wander, but hey… people love seeing me make mistakes. 😂 I punched it right after and drilled the hole. I have the one where you push and it pops, leaving a dent.
Hurry up and finish this plane! I'm dying to see it finished and flying!!! LOL. It's looking great. Your craftsmanship during the build process has been excellent. All the bells and whistles are amazing.Looking forward to the next video.
I know right! I just finished designing the fuel system. All parts should be here this week. Next week I'll be running hard lines, hooking up the fuel pump, converting to fuel injection, and measuring for the remaining fuel and oil lines. Once thats done, It's startup time!
Looks like it would be a great gift too.
Agreed! It's a really cool solution that so small it can fit on any panel.
👍✅😎great tech Carl!
Excellent!!
I'm really excited about it!
I'm an Aithre employee, they're pretty cool :)
Nice. I still want to thank you guys for the product. It's a great little gadget.
Devices like this should be in minimum equipment lists. Get rid of dodgy crystal placards
I have a feeling the FAA is going to go that route soon.
great Job ! such a great addition love the way the panel turned out . I have a question where did you purchase the colored rubber covers for the bat switches? I cant seem to find anything to fit my switches for my Sundowner . Thanks again.
I got them from Aircraft Spruce. Search for toggle switch covers - www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/av/install_switches/toggleswitchcvr.php
@@flywiththeguys thanks so much again
thanks for this video ! what support do you use for the ipad? thanks
X-Naut. I actually broke it too when I was installing it. Not their fault. LOL - czcams.com/video/_4lQcxvCMwI/video.html
Can you post info on your pitot tubing? What is is and where to purchase?
Are you working on experimental? Tubing is tubing. I got it and the fittings off amazon. Nothing special.
Hey would you have any easy tips on judging distances while in-flight?
This is my one sticking point when contacting ATC, I can never tell my distance from a POI/Tower/Runway
Like is there an easy mental math relevent to Altitude readings or something?
I don't. That just takes time and experence. I'm still terrible at it. I've flown a lot locally and know distances from ground references, which has helped. Otherwise I use the GPS or my ipad to get accurate numbers. When I'm close to the airport I can usually tell when I'm about 4 miles out though.
@@flywiththeguys Haha, dang, oh well, I'll focus on local to get a feel for it then 😅
Thanks for the reply!
the wiring looks a tad messy, are you gonna redo it or is it all organized and my brain isn’t working lol
It’ll all be tied up once everything is installed. Don’t worry, I’ll make you proud!
Can I get your opinion on the new Lightspeed Delta Zulu helmet ( - www.lightspeedaviation.com/product/delta-zulu-anr-headset/ - ) that has a CO2 chip in it? It warns you in the helmet if you exceed the critical threshold. I bought it mainly for this option, but it's always interesting to have the opinion of a confirmed pilot like you.
I also fly with the Delta Zulu. The CO detector is a great feature add. I'm not flying my J3 just yet so I use it in other aircraft. I don't really have an opinion on the helmet side of things though.
