Underrated batsman. Underrated opener. Underrated captain. He might arguably the best opening test batsman of the modern era. And perhaps the best captain in the modern era.
@King Wiwuz IV Cook not really. Smith scored runs around the globe. Hayden was more consistent though, but I'll take Smith's leadership, even as VC, over Hayden's stature.
That edgebaston knock was next level. I remember that game well, flintoff looked like he was going to trigger a collapse in front of a crowd that was absolutely HEAVING. Instead Smith took it pretty much all on himself to stand up and go toe to toe with them. He single handedly stopped their momentum and then counterattacked with Boucher. Ridiculously special innings.
I love this player.. Graeme Smith, probably the best captain post Steve Waugh era. He saw some tough time early in his career, didn't get support from the team but gelled up easily after and then became a legend in Cricket. Superb temperament, hard batsman to dislodge, great fielder and best team player. 100's - 27 100 test matches as captain. 117 test matches Love him surely in my all time XI with Matthew Hayden
For me the best side in world was South Africa 2006 to 2015 never losing a test series away from home the windies were brilliant during 80 to 95 but South Africa had a brilliance above rest during their time having a perfect team
Graeme Smith was my motivational coach, his honesty , straight forwardness, his determination and courage to never give up really stays in my heart forever, I remember the the broken finger game against Australia, I had the commenti on I cried so much at work they thought I was crazy .
Absolute giant of a man in true sense... Tough, determined and leading from front... I saw that series in eng where he scored truckload of runs 277, 259 .. Him and Hayden batting together... That would be a sight
In his captaincy south africa took that no 1 test team status from Australia which was a huge task and they maintained that position for a good 8,9 years
Made captain in his early twenties. When he wasn't even settled as a cricketer. People just debut as cricketers. He almost debuted straight as the South African captain and the rest is history both being leading a side initially with seniors , batting himself to make himself a an impact and then later brought Steyn Ab Amla into the side and started the proteafire drive. What a cricketer. Best thing he had , a huge temperament. Took South Africa to the very top . A great great of the game . Three South African cricketers could've easily crossed the 10k test runs . Graeme Amla and Ab but they never cared about it. Just went away after being close to it but that's why they played the game. To forever question why didn't they continue . But that's them. They achieved everything
Most prolific opener Graeme Smith vry illustrious timing especially wid new heavy ball from right under da noses of fielders leaving dem in utter disbelief & uncertainty, no matter Mr Graeme Smith holds all da record of partnerships, captaining SA in 100 tests winning 54 wid himself leading wid example taking 90 catches scoring almost 9000 runs while captaining South Africa is a vry Great & vry unique feat achieved by vry Great captain Legend of Graeme Smith
Most test matches won as a captain even more than waugh, ponting, Lloyd. That is some record and that was some team steyn, kallis,Smith, de Villiers, boucher, morkel, gibbs, philander, amla, duplessis
The best captain i have seen taking the Proteas side to number one test playing nation what a achievement for greatest test captain i have ever seen after Hansie Cronje 🙏🙏🙏😄🙌🙌
Strangest clip ever...starts by saying "vs India" then show Mark Waugh and Aus crowd then India (maybe) bowling and Smith clipping ball then slow mo with Aus fielders in slips. Just weird.
Yeah, every bowler had a bunny, We used to laugh as a family when zaheer got him. But James Anderson took saschin for a wet one every time he bowled at him.
@@Theunislb I think that Sachin was not Andersons bunny. Anyeays Brett lee was the one who got him out 14 times and he still says that they both had great battles on the field
Underrated batsman. Underrated opener. Underrated captain. He might arguably the best opening test batsman of the modern era. And perhaps the best captain in the modern era.
Also very handsome & attractive personality
Best captain I’d definitely agree, despite Pontings win rate being higher. I’d argue Hayden and Cook are above him in terms of openers however

Zaheer khan probably was the reason why he wasnt very recognised
Cook no way
Never have I seen a captain deliver as consistently when the team needed it most. Captain courages being a very fitting nickname
That 154 at Edgbaston was one of the great Test knocks of all time

Totally agree. That 154* to win the series was just wow. One of the great 4th innings knocks to win a game!
His records in England that too opening the batting speaks volume about his technique, determination and skills.

A great captain ,tough guy and a great player
Graeme smith and Kevin pietersen two of the best batsman of my era and two of the best batsman to listen too on batting tips and techniques
Underrated, under appreciated legend of cricket
my favorite player. lots of love for him ..pure master class batsmen in test
Good player all around.....good humble attitude and I always enjoyed watching him bat

Biff, Hash, Kalahari, Mr 360°, Steyn Gun, Philander, Morkel. These fellas terrorized the whole world!
Wonderful insights Graeme
Most valuable cricketer. But underrated talented cricketer. why

Can't take my eyes off that bat. Gorgeous blade.
I loved him most
Great Captain and Batsman
One of my all time favorite batsman
south africa's 2nd best captain after Hansie Cronje.
Legend

Greame Smith and Stephen Fleming are the best international captains.
Leadership is written all over him..
Takes us back to a time when SA batsmen commanded respect
What happens if greame Smith and Stephen Fleming open the batting and Ricky ponting and Micheal Vaughan are in top order batsman?
Nothing... zaheer khan will take out Smith and Fleming.. harbhajan will take care of ponting
Absolute carnage! Even drawing against these batsmen would be a tough job for d opposition
After his retirement SA never looks settled.
He crippled the three top English captains
Straight from our captain
Best captain for me after greatest Steve Waugh.
He was born in 1978 not 1981
Source?
Most number of captancy in test, 109 test
He retired so early at 33
