It’s funny how often he is criticised for being arrogant but if you actually listen to him speak, he is very self aware, criticises himself when necessary and holds great admiration for other cricketers.

I swear to God, it's the accent. At the end, he talks about how badly he was struggling then, a month later, he scored 220 in Adelaide. If Flintoff tells that story, it sounds all homely because of his Lancastrian accent. Pietersen tells it in his faded Durban accent, it sounds like a humblebrag.
F the haters though, the man's a genius with a piece of willow in his hand.

ECB completely destroyed the talent of Kevin Pieterson. the kind of batsman he was, he used to put fear in the bowler even before he faced the first ball because as a bowler you always know that KP is not gonna hang around even a slight mistake and the ball is out of the park. had ECB handled KP better he would have easily become one of the best batsmen in the world.

He'd basically tell the bowler where he was going to hit the next ball, and usually it'd go exactly where he said. That was 2 - 3 seasons before he ever played England. I knew then he would definitely play for England, it was just a case of how disciplined he was would decide the career he'd have.

I’ve been an avid 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏏 fan since the summer of 1985 inclusive (nice place to start!). Only three batsmen achieved greatness during that time imho: Gooch (by dint of what happened after he assumed the captaincy), Alastair Cook and KP and of those only KP looked like a great from his very first Test. Never mind Blighty, only a handful of batsmen anywhere in the world have been able to instil fear in opposition bowlers like this guy. Mesmerising when in full flow.

Awesome batsman. "Head to the ball" is a great thought to have as the bowler comes in to deliver.
Here's an observation though - his foot doesn't get to the pitch of the ball because.....
as he takes his stance he grounds his bat then looks up and lifts his bat simultaneously to face the bowler. If instead, he kept his bat grounded, then looked up to face the bowler and only then lifted his bat to complete his address position, he would find that his front foot would move automatically to the pitch of the ball as he executed his shot using his "head to the ball" simplifying technique.
Would it be possible to ask him - superstar legend that he is - to try this and see if it works for him?

Getting ur head in line with the ball is done only half way through the ball, once u pick the line n length and decide wt shot to play, ur body bcoz of practicing all those shots automaticly moves into good position to play ur choosen shot
Like say ball is outside off back of length, u start by getting in line with ur head then realize ball is outside off and u cant reach on the front foot, thus u rock back then make room to play cut shot or get close and play back foot punch

He was an idiot, but sometimes you've got to find a way as a team to fit these guys in and let them do their thing. The 2013/14 Ashes were not his fault and he unfairly shouldered the blame. England could have got a few more years and probably a couple more thousand test runs out of him. England and English fans were poorer for it.

Totally agree. For instance Ronaldo isn’t the easiest to captain but no one else can do what he does just like KP

totally agreed. even someone like Shane Warne was tough to handle during his playing days. we all know the famous steve waugh and warne rift. but Ricky found ways how to handle warne on and off-field along with the scandal which warne had off-field.

@@arjans7573 Ronaldo is pretty easy to captain I'd say. He's hard working and dedicated. Remember the Euro final where he captained from the sidelines when he got injured- he's a leader as well. I think a better comparison would be someone like Neymar who parties a lot etc.

He’s a great bloke and easy to watch but still can’t resist the urge to name and ego drop. No wonder he was such a good mat of Warnie’s.
