Normally the local council is pretty good at keeping this main road open during bad weather. Failed this time.
The road was like this for a good 12 hours although this is a bus and major fire/ambulance route. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
This is strangely entertaining
I know. I'm not within several thousand miles of this, and can't stop watching.
More fun when watching this with 4 snow tires.
idk why i love watching these vids
Same
Me too
I love watching these vids because it shows how dumb these people are
lol, that guy with the silver Seat Toledo...i bet he is still there, shoveling his way up the hill hehe
I know that these videos are from several years ago, but they are still as relevant today. The torture of driving home or getting stuck still resonates with me today. Great camera 📷 👌 work in all of your snow ❄ videos. Cheers guys from America 🇺🇸.
Summer tyres + snow = this video :D
Absolutly, that and proper tuition as how to drive when there is ice and snow, for some reason that is not done in the UK.
+Niels Petersen We get snow once every 10 years in the UK that is why.
+Dado Bimmer ZLOT MIŁOŚNIKÓW LETNIEGO OGUMIENIA :-)
+Jogo Lock
Winter tires are much better than "non-winter" tires below 7C, when normal tires become plastic. Therefore, for quite a lot of the time in the UK your summer / all-weather tires are much worse for stopping or going round corners than winter tire. Particularly in the wet. Please look up the stopping distances as a function of temperature. I drive on 4-season tires with a snow flake, good for summer and winter and are good for frost, wet and cold + summer. I had to pull my colleague in his 4 wheel drive out a car park with my 2 wheel drive, great laughs had all round.
Dado Bimmer I rode a 450 four Honda for 2 Colorado winters , didn't miss a day . I showed for work when people with cars couldn't
I was living in Hasland, a quarter mile from where this was shot at the time. I was driving a 1995 E34 BMW, which is 60/40% weighted to the front, with rear drive wheels it is quite horendous in snow - that is before I filled up both LPG and Petrol tanks and stuck on snow tyres. With a bit of weight and a rubber compound that does not freeze up like all season tyres, I overtook a range Rover on the big hill near Chatsworth. Although sceptical of snow tyres at first, I can see why Germany make it the law to use Snow Tyres in the Winter. I bought my first set of part worn Michelins for 100 quid from a guy in Handsworth. Go on try them - stop being part of the problem!!
Interesting, I thought it was closer to 50/50 with rwd BMWs
Brings back memories of being stuck behind a BMW on a snowy hill and to my surprize I managed to get past the BMW and made it up the hill no bother. I had a Kia Picanto at the time, however, I think I had better grip because I had my Doberman in the back and he must have contributed to the traction. Greetings from Scotland.
3:50 Now THATS a dedicated biker right there!
And one hell of a Bloody Idiot too
@@TowMater603 Hats off to him. In 2013 I broke my ankle riding on snow. And again on ice 2 years later! After that, not surprisingly, I took the bus in snow and ice.
And this is why I drive a truck. Only have snow for half the year but I'm glad I have it.
Could anyone imagine Jeremy Clarkson going up this hill?? POWEERRRRRR!!! :P
SPEED AND POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I dothat all the time in my ol gutless 92 toyota pickup! But she gets where i need to go. POWWWWWERR!
Connor Danhof Thats the thing about Toyota pickup trucks.. they're so durable
Thats literally what I was just imagining! I'm just imagining a car with the wheels sliding with him screaming "POWWWWAAAAAA!" inside!
Would love something as interesting as this to happen on my street! :)
Recently returned from Japan, while there I discovered that winter tyres are required by law on every vehicle from October until April. Failure to fit them could see your vehicle being crushed, the
Police go about checking to see what type of tyres are on vehicles, snow tyres have "snow flakes" on the rim, so its easy to check. Failure to comply will see your vehicle being crushed.
6:11 Who's mowing their lawn??
I'm honoured to give you a L
W
I believe in speed, power. Speed and Powerrr!
fool, it was the Vtec kicking in yo
I thought someone was using a sewing machine.
@ 3:40...well, there is something I never expected to see.
@ 4:03...the most qualified over-road vehicle in the compilation.
I like the Mr. Bean guy near the end of the video shoveling his way up the hill 30 feet at a time!
Motorcycle in a blizzard? Lol 😂
I’m gonna try surfing on my sled and see if it works that way too!!
i love the guy with the bike :)
its nice to see people trying to help each other,,,
I'd love to see more of these videos :)
brings me in the right mood for Xmas
Lol the sound of the Mazda tyres 😂
6:04 Toledo driver looks like hes digging a grave to get out while Mr Civic is barely making it by as well lol
In romania the police takes your pink slip away if your car isnt equpied with winter tires in winter time, not mentioning the huge fine.
That opening scene was beautiful.
I thought the same. I love the snow if I don't have to drive in it.
Those are some nice houses in that area, very Christmas-looking.
Cavalcade of specials behind the wheel!!
I have had to work through this several times. Make sure you have 1) a sack of rock salt 2) a shovel. Literally saved my bacon countless times
nice to see people helping each other
Good video of a difficult situation. There's a lot to be said for gaining momentum before the hill gets steep so that you don't need as much power/traction on the way up. Depending upon the traffic, terrain, and hazards, you sometimes don't get the chance to use much momentum. Then you get stuck like so many did here. At least the Civic driver knew how to quickly turn around on the hill!
With winter tires that works a lot better, or do you also run with summer shoes around in winter?
An excellent video. ♡ T.E.N.
and thats how you cut the life of your all seasons in half
wet snow + shit worth of experience + lack of winter tires = funny CZcams vid to watch :D
Problem is because we so very rarely ever get conditions like this nobody ever knows how to drive in it.
Last winter we didn't even have a decent frost, let alone ice or snow.
True
+richardfld I believe that's the main reason, beside the fact you Brits dont use winter tyres like the rest of Europeans... But there's videos of this same road from 2011, 2013 and newest one from 2014/2015. So there were no snow in 2012. :D If I were those people I would buy a good set of all season tyres just for winter time cause as I saw temps are not that low for winter tyres, because they do not behave well on temps over 8C. And then when it gets warmer you mount summer tyres back on and problem solved.
+richardfld are you sure? Sheffield got plenty.
+richardfld It's from global warming, get used to it and severe cold too.
+quornash Good sets of all season tires is the same as driving on summertires! There isnt a slightest possibility to make a rubbermixture that performs well on dry asphalt, wet asphalt, snow, ice or frosty roads... 2 sets of tires is the best. Wintertires perform ok enough to maintain safety driving on either dry or wet asphalt,But over the top better than all season tires on icy or snowy conditions! Your comment started so nicely, but then i saw your statement about all season tires... ruined the whole thing! Nokian Hakkepelitta 7 or 8 with or without spikes is the absolutly best choise for winter. And i can asure you that many if not all of them(except maybe the red lowered Honda) where having winter tires, because they would not in hell be able to make a hillstart with summertires in these conditions! do some research before commenting on such a thing dude!
i live in the south so dont deal with to much ice. but what i dont understand is they see cars stuck all around but yet they still try it.
I'm impressed with the guy around 1:56 Kept it nice and steady, consistent, hope to learn how to control my car like that someday!
if you were driving fwd would backing up the hill be better?
Ah. The Shire. YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!
I have a question: is it true that you no snow tires and snow chains in england used?
(I am from germany)
Love how the car behind the boy racer at 6:10 starts backing down the hill as soon as he revs it up :D
That Mitsubishi Shogun has already been up the hill. Now he's heading back down :)
This kind of thing is interesting for about the first few minutes. I used to have this happen all the time by the apartment I lived in. Huge hill and every Lexus, Subaru and Ford thought they could make it up/down. I spent more time making sure people were ok and calling 911 than anything else. Every so often you'd see one of those awesome drivers that some how managed to spin all the way down and not hit a thing.
You don't have to use winter tires in UK, do you?
great video..
Is awd effected like the this too?
6:45 hahahah nice the civic.
Hi Just read your comment, for the record "Winter Tyres" are for use in any weather/road conditions ( snow, ice, rain, ice, frost or dry ) when the temperature goes below +7oC, once the temp goes below +7oC the rubber on normal tyres start harden and loses anything up to 50% of their traction, consider that in the UK the going to work and coming home temps for 6 months of the year are regularly below +7oC.....winter tyres are a no brainer really.
I've never even seen snow :P but sliding down that looks wicked =3
I crazy-love snow and winter, but this is the only thing I don't like about it. XD
Good old Whittington hill, everyone tries in the snow, few succeed.
3:20 look this car... winter tires no problems 😀
In these cases, I salute those w/ manual transmission. From my POV, that is absolutely the most majestic thing ever.
Winter tires have to join us problem goes away..greet
AP ke ghar ki location bahot mast lagti he 👍🌹🇮🇳
how much was the temperature at that moment there??
thumbs up for the guy on the motorcycle
no one use winter tires? or no one have chains?
wheres does it snow like this at?? never seen snow in person...
3:01 hahahaha!!
That looks like a Fun hill, I think some one should get out there with a Hair blow dryer and melt all the ice away!
do they use winter gums?
We Brits just cannot drive on snow safely. We don't have snow studs, or chains, or basic bloody common sense when it comes to driving on snow and ice.
This brit does. I rarely get stuck.
Been driving 12 years now. Never been stuck once. Ever. It scares me to see people that have been driving longer than I have been alive that still cant do it. Why? Just why? I drive a wankey van for work and a GT4 for pleasure and have NEVER missed a days work because of snow. Or ever got stuck. So whats the deal? Heres what is going on. UK driving standards are shit. Simple as.
6:19 any1 else waiting for him to blow his engine?
Plan on showing these to my kids so they can see what snow was :D
3:42 THE BEST!!!! HAAHAAHHAAH KING
(assuming their not special winter tires) lower profile tires generally have a larger footprint. it distributes the car's weight onto a larger surface area. this tends to allow the wheel to ride on top of the snow rather than cut through it. it's easier for tires with a narrower tread width to cut through snow and make contact with the asphalt. basically, it's a knife vs spoon thing.
i live in eckington near there and we had 4 foot of snow in 2 days this was just the start of it. we spent 3 days diging my local school out
Cheers to the gents shoveling a path for the one car. After already trying to pull it up the hill.
Fun to look at this when i live in Sweden. Why dont have all round tires? I have it on my fwd volvo v70 and it works okey i think i sude make that hill with no problems at least.
in Seattle, USA the city comes to a complete stand still with just an inch of snow. average of one (1 inch) snow fall every five years. lol.....
I am walking at the start of this video. It was about 6pm, there was very light snow that morning and no weather warning. Pretty much everyone was caught out by the worst snow in 20 years. Over 3 feet fell in less than 24 hours. That's more than the total of the last twenty years. We don't get enough of it to warrant snow tyres or chains and you rarely have to drive in it - hence the poor driving!!!!
Bootz Erica where was this ?
3ft... More like 3 inches. If that was 3ft then no-one would be driving up that road
Subaru Forester and Michelin Alpin tires, peace on mind!
Winter tyres are just that - for winter. Snow tyres are different again.
Wwe may only have snow for a few days a year but we regularly go below +7C which is when winter tyres come in to their own.
Not saying people must have them but the option is there and whilst you fork out initially while you're using winters you're saving your standard/summers :)
That land rover discovery just smashed it
PREACH BROTHER!
I find it hilarious when you get the tools in the chaved out cars making all this noise and getting nowhere 😂😭
snow wether is my world..love the vedio :)
khaled boughera surely spelling isn't your thing
what do you mean by : spelling ?
You know, not everyone speaks english as their first language.
How's your arabic?
Pekka Kilpeläinen it is good
Nice to learn from you :)
Hi,
Firstly a set of Continental TS800 winter/snow tyres ( will have snowflake + mountain symbol ) , fail in that if you have a diesel, at the bottom of the hill or when starting up the hill , drop it into 2nd gear at low revs, and if you take your foot off the accelrator, the engine should be able to drag you up the hill just on tick over. I have a Vauxhall Astra 1.7diesel, even with good tread depth on normal tyres would get up the hill without any worries . All the best jg
я аж ногой запорпал ))
Песочка надо побольше подсыпать, а то и просто хоть чуть чуть по дороге, хотя бы местами
that civic was beasting that vtec man lol poor little civic should but a scubie
lol I beleive this is why I bought a 2012 Mitsubishi lancer AWC -- driver select 4wd.. geting it this thurs. cant wait :D
driving in snow and ice is how I learned to drift
Type of car helps. My 5 series BM copes well with the snow but a vauxhall omega I had before it was pants!!
Those people should visit northern Sweden in the winter. I'd pay to watch them :)
where ppl going ? whats wrong with home at this hour?...Or taking a walk...
here in PA snow is expected every year
we just dont know when it is most likely to hit
tip:high gear, low revs-counter logic to putting it in 1st and flooring it!
Yes. Goal is to not break traction keep momentum and don’t floor it. People don’t understand that anymore
Nice chavvy Honda at 6:10
fart can didnt help
And you can guarantee he didn't have snow tires on it
LOL nobody has snow tires
People involved in snow related accidents who did not have snow tires should have to pay extra fines.
JesuCristoEsREY people that don't live in England should not comment. last winter we had one evening of light snow where I live. That's around 500£ of tyres plus fitting for ONE evening of the year.
Good point! :)
There you go, perfect sledding conditions
no studded tires out there?
we dont use that kind of thing over here unfortunately, but i have seen a couple of school busses with chains on their wheels when we had a bad winter
One thing ive noticed with uk and other countries, the English help each other and have fun. Its not every man for himself. People may laugh at the uk but ill take kindness and laughter over skilled driving.
I don't get the mentality of folks sometimes....I mean you see that the person in from of you can't move up that hill and 5 cars are on the side. Do they honestly think to themselves "hmm, ill make it" dude common! it's common sense!!
I drive a L200 with fairly aggresively treaded A/T tyres as well as snow chains in my bed for worst case scenario's. Winter hobby of mine is going out and fannying about in the snow, its amazing the difference a winter compound with aggresive tread pattern makes as I usually can just breeze past these folks.
Hell even a FWD with winter tyres is a night and day difference to the normal summer/all season tyre crew you see on UK roads.
CAElite or Carry cat litter on your truck/use your all weather floor maps is another one
adrian simental common sense is no longer common. besides, all these people chose the vehicle they did. I've had a 96 2500 gmc with dump, dick cepeck knobbies and 9000 pounds on my side for 11 years in vt, never used the 4wd once, never had a problem.
Ohh - wow.
@cozmium That's the point I was trying to make. 4WD gets you going, but it doesn't stop you any better in the snow, nor does it give you more control. That's really what matters. My little FWD does fine even with regular tires, but it would be better with some snow tires. It's all about the driver, but if they can't drive, they need winter tires.
Reving on the snow.... that is very smart .... yep
where are you going without winter tires, where???
Just the thought of embarrassing myself like that is enough to get winter tyres, lol. Of course that's not the only reason. Winter tyres are not really about snow. It really is a no brainer
It's a lot of fun.
on this conditions and that guy from bike!!! amanzing and crazy guy
Obviously has no other way of getting to work, and hoping it will clear once he gets to the main roads. At least he could push it, being a small bike (looks like a 125). Try it with a 1000!
