Truck Crash, M1 Motorway, June 2014
Aftermath of a crash on the M1 Motorway between J29A and J30. June 5, 2014.
I was following the DHL truck along the M1 at about 03:40. The UPS truck had broken down in lane 1 (no hard shoulder due to roadworks).
The DHL truck smashed into the back at a speed of about 50mph (80kph), the driver didn't brake or make any attempt at moving over
It took over 2 hours to get the DHL driver out of his cab. Very serious injuries. The UPS driver who was in his cab at the time was shaken but otherwise OK.

The sooner they dual that road,the better. And whilst they are at it they should dual the A69 from Carlisle to Newcastle and dual all of the A1 in Northumberland. And re number the A1(M)to the M1 where the existing M1 meets the A1(M)near Wetherby. And as a PS the A1(M)south of Wetherby should be re numbered the M1(X),X being extra. And of course convert all of the A1 from North of London into a motorway and call the whole lot the M1(X)
Probably 20 sets of snow tires in the whole country !

Get used to the cold icy snow global cooling is coming . Be forewarned .
As I bus driver , in that situation I’d have pulled over safely and stopped the bus. No point going any further and risk having an accident.
I’m quite impressed with how the bus driver actually managed to drive such a big bus down a very slippery snowy hill.
Knowing this is possible, I would purchase winter tyres. I would rather have them and not need them then need them and not have them.
What happens when you are too stupid or cheap to buy winter tyres. Wow unbelievable.
I feel sorry for the dog having to sit on cold snow.

Thank you for filming these special moments. Very funny at the end, the old red Ford Escort which makes noise like in a rally but which climbs stubbornly without failing. Fortunately there were no people injured. I hope the man on the scooter got home safely.

I drive this road couple of times a week HGV. I love all the features, the rocks, the castles and the bleak wilderness as you get nearer Scotch Corner. Would love to explore, on a weekend off but, don't want to get shot at by a Challenger 2 or other!

Was this on the same day as you went to Halifax on the previous video?
No, it was a different day, but if I remember correctly it was in the same week.

I honestly can't remember, it was almost 10 years ago! It is likely to be Fibreline, in Keighley but it could have been on my way to Barnoldswick.

All of the A465 is a Dual-Carriage Except for Section 5 and 6, Which My team is constructing now.
its a better road now lol ,,,in the 60s early 70s there was no power steering and I'm sure there was nowhere to park up,,,i went over there every sat morning with my dad lol, he was sweating by the time he got over the top then sheet and rope his trailer in the rain and drive back,,,,great days great man.....i can still hear him now { bloody fly sheets are a pain in the back side} and lots of other things lol

How easy is it throwing the straps over? I've got a dodgy arm and have just been offered a job driving a flatbed but I'm a bit nervous about the strapping situation
Recently returned from Japan, while there I discovered that winter tyres are required by law on every vehicle from October until April. Failure to fit them could see your vehicle being crushed, the Police go about checking to see what type of tyres are on vehicles, snow tyres have "snow flakes" on the rim, so its easy to check. Failure to comply will see your vehicle being crushed.
We should follow the winter rules in Japan. From mid November until the end of April, you are required by law to use Winter Tyres. Failure to do so, could result in your vehicle being crushed....oops!
Put your taxes up to pay for everyone's tyres, how bout that then
